WCQF Gm#4: KINGS vs. BLUES - 5/6/13 - Comeback Kings Indeed! 2 Down, 2 To Go!

Facewash has had the best avatar for *literally* a decade. Can't beat the TTT!

As for the hit, I had a great view of it, and it was truly thunderous. Regher really did have a strong game last night. I've been a bit down on him lately, because he frequently has trouble moving the puck. However, last night he didn't have any glaring miscues that I saw. I think he limited his game a bit more, and just focused on hitting, board battles, and separating his man from the puck.

The hit was awesome but his breakout pass to Richards to lead to their first goal was a thing of beauty. I hadn't been that impressed with him lately as well but he's been very good in games 3 and 4.

With Carter and Kopitar scoring the kings can win the series. Ellerby is more comfortable playing on the left side, now that Scuderi is on the right side. They need keep going after Jackman, because he seems not be able to keep from taking bad penaltys.

Thanks!

Rather surprised that wasn't called a penalty.

Nice to see you around Face Wash, haven't seen you much lately. Thanks for not changing your avatar, I always loved that one.

So long as The Dingo doesn't run me out of town again, I'll be around.

^ Thanks. I just noticed that Carter was on the ice during Kopi's goal. Is Carter now on the first line?

Lines moved around a whole heck of a lot. Seems that:

Brown, Kopitar, Carter
King/Penner/Clifford Richards Williams

But then it changed minute to minute. Same with the defensive pairings. Lots of movement.

with 7 dmen, someone had to double shift....since those players double shift, they would have to take a rest once in a while so he(Williams, for example) ends up playing on a different line.

What I love about that video is how happy Kopi is. And Brown. Like brothers helping each other out.

That goal was nuts -- a video game game goal. So was Penner's.

Both were unexpected in a series like this one has been.

The shifting around really screws with Hitchcock's ability to match lines, too (already tough on the road).

Really curious to see how Sutter's 7 D strategy works in St Louis.

Also -- kudos to Sutter and the coaching staff for putting in the work and finding an answer to St Louis' answer to what the Kings have been doing the past two post seasons.

Brown - Kopitar - Carter
King - Richards - Williams
Penner - Stoll - Lewis
Clifford - Fraser - Carter/Brown/Williams

Makes the most sense, especially with Penner playing so well. Three most talented guys on one line, Williams gets the most out of whoever he plays with, and the third line was our best line last night.

Hopefully DS sticks with these lines.

Has Sutter finally found a winning formula? Have The kings finally got there MoJo back? I believe they have. Last nights game was great!! Penner was everywhere, No major turnovers, Passing was incredible and are top lines are scoring again. I hope they take this winning energy to St Louis and close the door on the Blues in 6!!!

I think we definitely took a step forward, in that we're playing our game better, but we have to remember every game has still been a one-goal game. No room for error. At the moment the difference is that we have the better finishers and the better goalie, we just need to keep that up and try to steal one in St. Louis.

We also seem to have turned the tide mentally in that the Blues are starting to look a little fragile and the Kings are feeding off that. Going back to St. Louis means that they will have a slight advantage in matchups, so it will be interesting to see how Sutter deals with that.

What I love about that goal is seeing how for just a moment the Blues let Kopitar make some room and he scores a goal.

No it shows Kopitar that going to the net gets you chances, not playing high all the time trying to win a Selke. Kopitar needs to understand he needs to be a offensive force. Back checking is great but don't think like a 3rd line Center.

If Kopitar wasn't playing high (to cover for Egg McMuzzin) then he wouldn't have been left all alone in the first place to skate in to the slot and score the goal

Kopitar was open because Berglund was watching Muzzin skate away while Kopitar breakdanced in behind him

Regarding Regehr's check on Reaves:

Rule 41 - Boarding

41.1 Boarding – A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently in the boards. The severity of the penalty, based upon the impact with the boards, shall be at the discretion of the Referee.

Rule 43 - Checking from Behind

43.1 Checking from Behind – A check from behind is a check delivered on a player who is not aware of the impending hit, therefore unable to protect or defend himself, and contact is made on the back part of the body. When a player intentionally turns his body to create contact with his back, no penalty shall be assessed.

In no way was Reaves defenseless or not aware of the impending hit. Regehr waited until Reaves was close to the boards so he wouldn't go into the boards face first, and then he turned him into a bug on the plexiglass. The primary point of contact was not the head.

That's good, tough old time hockey right there.

Great game last night and an awesome first playoff experience for my girlfriend. I left the game most impressed with Dustin Brown's play on the Kopitar goal...great stuff from the Captain when it was needed most.

I then discovered this last night: DUI Fries. Just dropping a suggestion for the next GDT as these were absolutely the right call after the game.
