The beauty in all this, is that it's a 7 game series. Kings played like poop, and almost won. Nuff said. Game 2 WILL be a different story.

Some Kings fans here need to turn in any kings jerseys they might have and put on some Blues ones. good lord, one game and they turncoat lol

After sleeping on it, my simple assessment of last night's game:

-Blues tried so damn hard, and didn't get very far. Won on a fluke/stupid play.

-We don't have the best player out there; We have like the 3-4 best players out there. They tried harder, but we clearly have better skill.

-I hate being down the first game. gets me all worked up.

-There is no possible way Blues can win the Stanley cup. They just aren't that good.

Optional practice today, those who are participating:

Helene Elliott ‏@helenenothelen 5m Players practicing: Bernier, Penner, Nolan, Fraser, Martinez, Greene, King, Lewis, Richardson, Ellerby, Clifford, Muzzin, Toffoli
I hope that Greene can play on Thursday, he was much missed.

As many others have cited already, I think the fact the Blues played their A game and the Kings for the most part didn't show up and almost won in OT is a good sign.

I thought Penner played much better in the latter stages and iin OT. He used his body effectively to control the puck. Maybe he moves up by Thursday.

I thought the Kings played much closer to their real game in OT.

THey know they have to play much better and I think we can expect a much better more complete game on Thursday.

Major Props to Regehr for playing after taking a skate to the face and breaking his nose- warrior! (and lucky, that could have been terrible if the blade hit him)

I was losing it when they were going back and forth. They did the best they could for the situation they put themselves in i guess.

Yea Ellerby...I've been not necessarily defending them but more or less giving him the benefit of the doubt but last night proved hes not ready for this. We need Greene or Martinez back quick. Ellerby just isnt confident with the puck, he gets rid of it as soon as he can and in tight situation he makes bad decisions. He's a liability right now.

Greene really needs to rub some dirt in it & gtfo there! We are not gonna win this series w/o em.

KINGS FOREVER

I sure hope Martinez is hurt, because if he's healthy and not playing over Lollerby, that's just insane. Ellerby is Randy Jones 2.0 the way he turns the puck over. I think he has some potential, but he can not be in the lineup of a cup contending team, it's that simple.

On a brighter note, Blues showed their best and it still took a massive mistake by Quick to get the win. Can't go up 3-0 every series, it will be fun to win this series a different way. I still like our chances. Just no more Ellerby, please?

Please Sutter, for the love of christ, if Greene is ready to go, as well as Martinez, get them the **** out there and get Muzzin & Ellerby the **** out of there.

I hope he's NOT hurt and now Sutter realizes how painful Ellerby is playing out there and can make the proper correction.

If the Kings come out like this for game 2, this series has to be done in 5, Blues favour.

Here's to hoping Greene can go tomorrow, per TSN.ca

I obviously didn't mean I actually hope he's hurt. Just that it would be the only decent explanation for him sitting in favor of Ellerby.

Next game, i'm taking a shot after every tape to tape turnover by Ellerby.

His decision process is a bit too slow and his clearing attempts are too weak, and his passes are not accurate enough for playoff hockey, at least for the style that the Kings want to employ.

Ellerby is a project. This kid needs to seriously put on some muscle and learn how to be a net-front presence at least in the mode of a guy like Scuderi. He doesn't need to be Greene mean out there, but with his reach he should be better than he is and he just doesn't seem strong enough.

Seemed like the game was optional for a few too many of them last night as well.

Scuds had his worse game of the year. Not worried as he will turn it around. I was impressed by Ellbery and Muzzin. Need to play like we did in the 3rd, some of the 2nd, and OT than we should be ok.
Man did Penner look good. Almost feel like he was our top forward out there.

I agree, and as I said at the start of the season, the dude should be scratched for the entire season and just brought back for the playoffs.

Same as last year, the dude was a different player in the post season.

The ONLY thing I can hang my hat on after last night was that the Blues through absolutely everything they had at an out-of-sorts Kings team last night and they STILL almost lost.

If the Kings play to their ability, they'll probably have a shot at winning game 2, but boy howdy the hill to climb to win this series is really, really steep without Greene. Our top 6 without Greene and Mitchell is not Stanley Cup caliber.

I was impressed by Ellbery and Muzzin.

lol. That pairing spent every shift hemmed in their own zone unable to breakout. Thats even more painful considering how many offensive zone starts they got, that instantly turned them back into their own zone.

Why Ellerby played over Martinez i don't know. Its clear we need Martinez's puck moving ability to get past the forecheck

I don't see it happening though since it took 50 minutes for Sutter to finally take Clifford off Kopitars wing, only to replace him with Richardson...sigh.

Hopefully this loss gets him to go back to the cup winning lines
