WCQF Gm#1: KINGS vs. BLUES - 4/30/13 - Tough Pill, But We'll Bounce Back!

It's TV contract related, they are contracted to carry first round games for the Ducks, Clippers, and Kings. I doubt Fox Sports had much of a choice. I hate it, but they did what they thought would appease people yet not completely alienate them at the same time.

I think to piggyback on an earlier point, obviously the Blues aren't the same team. Bouwmeester, Shattenkirk, Leopold, Pietrangelo all can move the puck. Assuming we were going to steamroll them, no way that would happen. Especially considering the Kings lack of quality road performances all season.

Wow. Really? I was there. Seven rows from Quick's right shoulder in the 2nd and 4th periods and two observations:

1. The Blues dominated much of the first 50 minutes with HUGE stretches where Elliot could have checked his twitter account and had some concession stand fare.

2. Quick was pretty horrible handling the puck on a few occasions. Of course the Muzzin/Ellerby pairing would give ANY NHL goaltender, living or dead, nightmares for all eternity.

He is not saying what you think.

Kings dominated = Kings were dominated. You see? :teach:

It's a ****** thing to do to either fan base.

Either televise one or the other, but not both. They knew when they scheduled it there'd likely be a conflict at the end of the Kings' game, beginning of the Clippers' game.

But here's the kicker, if you're a Clippers fan, you could've tuned into TNT as that feed was not blacked out in the LA area. But if you're a Kings fan on the other hand, Prime Ticket was the only channel you could see the game on as the CNBC feed was blacked out.

Got to love how FSN values the Kings after they sign a long-term TV deal and win the cup in the same year that the Lakers leave for Time Warner cable.

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm glad game 2 is a NBC brodcast. Won't have to deal with the FSN BS.

It's unfortunate that Quick had to gift wrap the game for the Blues because the bigger issue should be the shenanigans Prime Ticket pulled. I hope everyone here takes the time to contact Prime Ticket and let them know what dumbasses they are. The fact that they would even consider the first quarter of a basketball game as worthy of not only splitting, but completely taking over the screen of a NHL overtime game shows the buffoonery at work there. Please share your frustrations with the clown show they have at Prime Ticket.

Yes, especially since the stupid basketball game was also on TNT.

Thankfully, CNBC didn't have the ridiculous split screen.

Tough break, but it happens. Like some have said the Blues brought their A game and we looked like **** and lost on a fluke, this will be a great series. I don't know who thought otherwise.

Let me ask you this: if it were a clipper's game that was in the OT and the kings were about to start their playoff game, would you prefer that they continue to televise the clippers game in OT, or give the option of a split screen?

Obviously, they were wrong.

On your second point, if the Kings don't start getting a body on Bouwmeester and Petro it is going to be tough to establish a forecheck. King and Nolan are useless if they aren't going to punish the other team's defense.

It's rough, but I'm more worried at how many shots the Kings gave up and how little offensive zone time they had. It's not like they put up 40 on the Blues too.

They need to up their physical game and for the love of God, can we stop with the experimental lines? If we're still playing with chemistry, we're not going to win this series.

I wouldn't be that upset because NBA overtimes rarely go more than the first 5 minutes. The fact that the Clippers game was on TNT in the LA area and was NOT blacked out just makes this even more of a traveshamockery.

Does anyone have an answer to why the NHL scheduled both teh Kings and the Ducks on the same night?

The only explanation I have is that the series don't cross over so that both are on the West Coast at the same time, but in all honesty, I don't think they cared. Then the same thing with Minnesota/Chicago being on the same night as SJ/Van. One Western series in the middle of the continent and one in the left part every night.

That 5 minutes is 30 minutes in NBA time. I watched the end of a meaningless Lakers game last week and the final 20 seconds took 17 minutes to complete.

You know, dunno why I'm re-watching this...but Kings inability to get the puck out of the zone should be addressed by next game too. The PP goal was essentially a broken play since Scuds had to fire a wobbly puck up the middle to get it out of trouble...

Just doesn't have the same effect.

They shouldn't have scheduled the Ducks game on the same day as the Kings game. Pretty much every SoCal team played today except for the Lakers. The Dodgers had KCAL so Prime Ticket was off the hook there. If the Ducks were off tonight, it should've been Kings on FSW, Clippers on PT, and Angels on KCOP. Couldn't Fox have made a request?

I'm also pretty sure KOCE, the Ducks secondary TV spot was available, unless a rerun Antique roadshow was already scheduled for the 7 pm spot.

I've seen that play a half dozen times now , and I still can't believe we lost in OT that way. Just laughing it off now.

After letting this settle in for a few hours, I'm not too torn apart over this loss like some reactionary posters may have been.

All of the home teams in the three games played tonight came out victorious. On the plus side, the Quick we were used to seeing in the playoffs last year is back (and hey he made a similar error last year with that giveaway to Parise in Game 5).

I also like that the team was able to withstand a very aggressive Blues team that came out flying and limited them to one goal and fought back. Penner really upped his game and was strong on the puck and along the boards and handled the big Blues defensemen very well. The Kings started to play better in the 3rd and really took over in OT.

They lack of experience and hockey smarts from Ellerby and Muzzin was exposed, and the Kings simply cannot risk having those two get caught out there against speedy and aggressive fore checkers. Limit the mental gaffes and up the ante on the fore check and the Kings will come out on top in Game 2.

Take this loss as a wake up call and move on. I'm more excited to see what this team can accomplish in Game 2.

Sutter is mostly to blame, He had is head lodged too far up his ass and it cost us.

In other news, Teemu at about the age of 45 scored a goal and was clutch in the ducks game, while Kopitar was invisible like most of the regular season.

Seriously, it blows my mind, a kid hitting his prime years sucking major ass. How is it even possible.
