So you thought it was an appropriate time to kid around about trading our franchise center? Just felt like creating a mess for the moderators today?

Some of you need to take a forum break.

26 teams finished worse than the Kings did this season. They're going to be fine.

Well said, Tony, but the Kings aren't finished yet.

Btw, how bad has the Kings drafting been in the first round? I feel like if we hadn't won the Cup last season, Lombardi would've been ripped up for multiple first round failures. Thomas Hickey, Colten Teubert, Derek Forbort, Chris Gibson (2nd rounder). It's so unlike him, and his scouts to miss out that badly on prospects. I'm a huge Lombardi supporter but this upcoming draft is HUGE, they need to hit on 4-5 players if we want to keep this franchise going on a positive because you're going to start seeing a let down with our veterans and salary cap is going to get tighter, which is when you'll see the ELC being more important. Guys like Scuderi won't be able to be re-signed and who are you going to look at to replace him? This is going to be an interesting summer.

^^^^ A lot of truth there, starting with Hickey. Now we're at the end of the first round (which indicates success of course!!) - but maybe DL should just trade down to the 2nd round. He seems to have better luck there anyway.

Good thing we didn't win the division, huh? :)

(and no, DL gets no pass for Doughty - everyone would have picked him at #2)

Anyone in favor of rushing Forbort next season? If you call that rushing since he is already 21.

Jesus....

Matt Greene,Mitchell, Scuds.....all closer to the age of 25 before they were NHL regulars.

Guys Not every Defender is Doughty.....These guys take time to develop.

Slava spent three season in Manchester...FULL seasons.

Also huge face palm to people already calling Forbort a failure ?

You have got to be ****$^ing kidding me, how about we let the Kid actually play a few games in the NHL before you claim that.

Sometimes you guys are amazing.

Considering he hasnt even played a full season in the AHL yet, Id say its rushing him. Defensmen usually take longer to develop than a forward. He will probably spend at least 2 year in the A, probably best for his development.

I think he does get a pass on Doughty. Him, Bogosian and Pieterangelo were neck and neck around these parts.

You need to get your facts straight. Matt Greene was 22 when he made his NHL debut. Scuderi was 24. Mitchell was 22. Oh, and none of them were first round picks like Forbort was. Slava was 21 when he made his NHL debut. And Forbort is not comparable to Doughty since Doughty spent 0 time in the minors. He made his NHL debut at 18 and stayed with the big club ever since. I'm not saying Forbort should be with the Kings on opening night, but he can be called up later on. The fact is he is no longer a teenager.

This has been discussed over and over.

The only sure fire can't miss was Stamkos at Number one.

Some scouts and experts had Bogosian rated higher than Doughty.

Some had Pie rated even....

Drew was Dean's pick all along, but stop acting like Dean didn't do his homework on Doughty.

I can even admit that, and I am a noted Lombardi hater on this board.

Greene did not have a good first year because he was a bit rushed. Either way, you don't rush defenseman unless it's Drew ****ing Doughty. Forbort is not Drew Doughty, unless he steps into training camp a changed man, he will have to develop his game in the minors. It doesn't matter where you're drafted, players in the later rounds can develop more quickly than early rounds.

Pretty sure Mitchell was older than that Sans Greene.

We talking full season ? They both had a game here or there, but not regular NHL players till around 25.

Forbort is not Drew Doughty.....Doughty is a generational talent.

You will not see a Defender like Drew, in probably another decade.

Once again, I'm not saying he should be on the Kings roster on day 1 next season. I'm just saying that he doesn't have to spend all of next season in Manchester if he happens to play well enough.

What if DL picked Boghosian? Doughty was not the clear cut number 2 pick. I remember Boghosian up there with Doughty.

I seem to recall it was very clear that it was Stamkos Doughty 1/2. There will always be some reporters saying XYZ player should be up there just to make headlines, but I remember it being those two. Look at this year there is definitely a top 2, and then some who say Drouin should be in top 2 topic. No chance.

Not having your best forward this series playing with injured Kopitar and the black hole line killer would be a start.

And even when the lineup was healthy Sutter was still inserting the black hole line killer into scoring lines the entire season. While benching guys like Penner and Toffoli. So the injuries excuse doesn't fly there.

Toffoli a scratch for most of the season? Kid has been one of the best forwards every chance he has been given and he sits while Fraser, Nolan and the black hole play regularly.

Not having awful line changes every game, the Kings have had 3 of them in their past 6 games. Not bad changes, awful awful changes.

How about the PP? The CBC guys said it best, "Everyone in the building knows Doughty is going to walk the line and pass to Voynov for a one-timer" and then we wonder why Frolik has more blocked shots than Dikembe Mutombo every game. Yet they keep force feeding this play, every time, tell me the last time the Kings even tried a back door pass on the PP?

Look, I love Sutter, I think what he accomplished last year was pretty impressive, one of the more impressive coaching jobs in recent memory. But he and Payne have sucked this year.

It would be nice if Doughty discovered that thing called a wrist shot from the point on the PP. Not every shot from the point has to be a blast. That was one thing Johnson was good at from time to time on the PP, just wristing it on net and creating chaos in front of the other team's net.

Drew has not played well against the Hawks, he has some sort of mental thing going on.

Been that way for a bit with that team.

Most likely will spend the next two seasons in Manchester.

Which is not a big deal, the kid was drafted as a Down the road Defender.

He also may never work out, the draft is a giant crap shoot.

I don't get angry anymore, unless your GM is Peter Chiarelli I don't expect every pick to be a homerun.

You get two roster players out of every draft, your GM is doing a damn good job.

So far Lombardi has done well enough.

Mitchell was 22 when he made his debut with the Devils. His first full season was at 24 when he was with the Wild. But yes, you kinda went overboard with the over 25 thing when all of the players you mentioned did, in fact, make their debuts before 25.

Forbort is no Doughty, obviously. I'm just not a believer of Forbort in Manchster for a full year is mandatory.

When you can't win on the road, this is bound to happen...you can't go through every series not losing at home.

Kings have to man up. The offseason is when I'm going to talk about the offseason, but right now...the Kings have to win the next game.

Your the man dude can not believe so many giving up already GO KINGS GO

It's not Mandatory, it's just likely. It's how Defenders are developed in really good farm systems.

People were crying Slava spent so much time in the AHL....Well look how that turned out.

College Hockey is not on the level of the AHL. The AHL is a Man's league.

He will spend time there, it will be good for him.

TL is right, LA isn't a hockey town. Who cares. We all know LA has one of the most diehard and passionate fanbases in the league, but there aren't very man of us.

Decades of dominance and the trendy factor have made LA the Lakers and then everyone else.

True, LA isn't a hockey town. There is no reason for him to s*** on some of the pound-for-pound most passionate fans in the NHL. I have a new reason to root for Toronto to never win a damn thing now.

LA follows winners pure and simple. The Lakers are going to find that out starting next season. I bet Dodger Stadium is half empty these days. I haven't gone to a live baseball game in years. Took my Dad a few times, but when the players struck and cancelled the playoffs and World Series they lost me forever.

I know I will spend my summer on vacation and attending a few concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. MLB can go to hell.

The Dodgers out draw the Yankees in Average attendance(this year).....No joke Go look it up on the MLB attendance record...

It's the Dodgers bro....

Lombardi never should have promised Jack Johnson that he would never spend a minute in the AHL. It would have done him a world of good. The guy skipped a step in his development that he may never recover from to reach his full potential.

I think Johnson has all the physical tools, the right work ethic and attitude, he just never polished his game or learned to read plays correctly. Skills he could have improved in Manchester had he been willing to go down.

Really every time I buzz through the channels on the TV, the place looks half empty.

You're probably right. Like I said F MLB.
