I would trade Kopitar and Bernier for Malkin's expiring contract.. Would you?

Ask yourself if one year of Malkin is worth Kopitars 3 years on contract.

I would definitely trade for Malkin and sign him to a lengthy extension that gets him paid, don't know about 10 million. That severely hamstrings our cap.

Yeah, I definitely meant a signed Malkin. Uhm, 10M/year definitely not but Lombardi would find a way to fit him. Geno, in my eyes, is the 2nd best player in the world after Crosby. Would love to see him in LA.

As awesome as Malkin would be offensively, you guys may get infuriated with him when he's coasting and sulking when he's not producing. Amazing talent though, reminds me of a young Jagr when he has the puck on his stick, but he also tends to get banged up quite a bit and doesn't play a 200 ft. game like Kopitar does, which is better suited when matching up against centers like Getzlaf, Thornton, Toews, etc.

It's a shame that injuries have hit this team when they did. I honestly feel we would have won the cup again with a healthy kopi. Not only would kopi scoring he would get brown going too.

Just wasn't meant to be.

Call me crazy or stupid or whatever, but even with Kopitar pulling an invisible act I still don't think he's worth giving up, even for Malkin. There is literally one player in the league I'd trade Kopitar for and that's Malkin's teammate.

And honestly, Malkin racks up the points on a dynamite Pittsburgh offensive team that already has opposing teams guessing on who to try and stop for the night, he or Crosby. He's in a perfect situation out there. I don't think he's a 110+ point player in the west, and definitely not if he's THE guy. I just don't buy the hype - I buy 99% of it, but not the entire package. I know, Conn Smythe, yadda yadda, I know all the counter arguments here. Just don't really care for the player.

And honestly, Pittsburgh has a whole ****load of issues going forward. They broke the bank to load up this year for a run and they're about to be swept out the conference finals. They're likely looking for a replacement between the pipes over the offseason and perhaps a drastic overhaul of coaching personnel. They're up **** creek without a you-know-what despite looking like an all star team on paper and having every media yahoo fellating them since the trade deadline.

Dustin Brown is UFA after next season. Can we even afford to keep him at the price it'll cost to re-sign him?

Could we see Lombardi deal him for a young/cheaper natural LW?

Why the heck are we all talking about trading our top guys all of a sudden? There is no denying that they are not performing the way they should be right now, but we are one year removed from winning the cup with Brown and Kopitar combining for 40 points. This team has the potential to be contenders for quite a while, lets not mess that up by breaking up the BEST team that we have had.

We are not Philadelphia, we are Los Angeles. Lets not be drinking the Holmgren juice.

Come on, really? We have a goal scorer - a guy named Jeff Carter who would have been the first 40 goal scorer on the Kings in a thousand years if we would have had a full season.

What we needed was whatever magic health pill the team was taking last year. And some depth in the bottom six wouldn't have hurt.

This team needs another goal scorer with the division we're heading into next season.

Not necessarily. Vancouver seems to be on the downhill slide, plus they will no longer be playing in a weak division. Anaheim, well who knows what they might do next year, cause this year feels like it might have been an anomaly. Calgary probably isnt going to be very good at all next year. Phoenix is a tough and gritty team, but games against them are never barn-burners. Edmonton should have a lot of firepower, but probably will still be weak defensively. So that leaves SJ and Colorado, the only two teams that really worry me.

Besides, a healthy team with a full training camp for Sutter should be very formidable when you consider how formidable our injury-plagued team is right now.

Not to mention, Tyler Toffoli is looking like he has the potential to be at least a 20 goal scorer next year.

Lol some of you guys are hilarious we are just talking what if. Lol over dramatic . I guess you can't talk about hypotheticals and another scenarios without people taking it seriously.

So you thought it was an appropriate time to kid around about trading our franchise center? Just felt like creating a mess for the moderators today?

Some of you need to take a forum break.

26 teams finished worse than the Kings did this season. They're going to be fine.

I would say they'll find a way to keep him. You never know until something happens either way, so, just have to wait and see.

It's the Pacific division without Dallas, along with the 3 western Canadian teams. The Kings may need another goal scorer, but not because of the new division.

I'd really love to see something around Bernier for Niederreiter. Nino would fit perfectly on the 2nd line LW.

The flames are entering a few years of being a horawful team. The canucks are still dangerous, and I think will be a facto for a few more years. Oilers are on the incline.

Need to capitalize on them flames.

I was confident until I saw we had a male anthem singer. What the hell is with that?

Pia was ill, I heard on the radio this am. Davis answered the call a little over an hour before the face-off. Gamer.

The one guy I really want (and it would be impossible to get) is Evander Kane. I know the Kings were high on him the year we drafted Brayden Schenn, he went 1 pick ahead of him. Would be an amazing acquisition but there's no way Winnipeg would ever give him up. I don't know if they're set with Pavelec.

Btw, how bad has the Kings drafting been in the first round? I feel like if we hadn't won the Cup last season, Lombardi would've been ripped up for multiple first round failures. Thomas Hickey, Colten Teubert, Derek Forbort, Chris Gibson (2nd rounder). It's so unlike him, and his scouts to miss out that badly on prospects. I'm a huge Lombardi supporter but this upcoming draft is HUGE, they need to hit on 4-5 players if we want to keep this franchise going on a positive because you're going to start seeing a let down with our veterans and salary cap is going to get tighter, which is when you'll see the ELC being more important. Guys like Scuderi won't be able to be re-signed and who are you going to look at to replace him? This is going to be an interesting summer.

Now, Forbort's a failure? Oh boy, it's going to be a long Summer.

Now? Go read my posts since the day the kid was drafted. I didn't like it back then and still hate it now. We drafted him in 2010 and he still hasn't seen the ice. Tyler Toffoli was the make up pick for the **** up on Forbort. Not only could we have taken Tarasenko or Emerson Etem (the draft was in LA, would've made for a good story), but we took a flyer on Forbort. Tonellisghost said Forbort's ceiling was Keaton Ellerby, lmao. If that is not a failure, then I don't know what is.

I remember that draft I thought Etem was for certain going to be the pick. That said I think it is too early to say Forbort is a bust. D typically take longer to develop. I still am mad about Hickey. That draft I was so pumped about Alzner, and I still am.

Hopefully summer doesn't start fro a couple of more weeks. It can be done.
That said this summer should be a exciting around the league. A lot of movement with the Cap going down . I am looking forward to what we get for Bernier. I am hoping either a mid 1st or a young winger who will play either second or third line next year, and develop into a future 1st liner.
Penner is showing that he maybe worth keeping again. Man is he night and day between playoffs and regular season. Not sure if Dean rolls the dice with him again with the cap going down.

the Forbort pick is not a waste, at this point we can't blame DL or Forbort. the kid was picked and has played at UND all this time and LA knew that when they chose him. in this time he has seen an increased role and grown as a player. during this time he has also played for Team USA. the kid has been playing up against very good competition all this time and has been steadily improving. to the point that many feel his window in the past year has moved up a full season.

was the pick a stretch at the time? perhaps and possibly so. the body of work to date on Tarasenko and Etem is entirely to small to validate and make an argument in comparison to Forbort. to criticize that Forbort 'hasn't seen ice' but then make the statement that Tarasenko and Etem are better with limited GPs, well it doesn't hold water.

DL being the far thinking brain-iac he is, knew he needed a top SAH defenseman X years down the road, to replace the likes of Greene, Scuderi and WM. he knew it was going to take time for this prospect and not rush him.

the comparison to Ellerby isn't a stretch and is accurate in many ways. FLA rushed Ellerby and look at him today, the kid needed more seasoning down on the farm. why do the same with Forbort? the best thing for both of them is to play them in MAN next season.

i think Ellerby has the means to turn into a very solid player, but he needs minutes to find his game. at this point he is a marginal NHL defenseman, he needs to go down to the AHL and improve himself.

for Forbort it is the same but more. he hasn't played the speed and strength of the AHL yet (not counting his brief stint this year). he needs to learn and adapt this before the next step.

when and if the day comes that Forbort turns into the next Scuds or WM will be the ROI. he was a long-term project from the start and wasn't expected to see the ice in LA for years, so stop saying he is a bust and/or a wasted pick. it isn't always about the immediate payoff
