What can we get for Bernier anyways? I'd love to get the return that the Capitals got for Varlamov, but I just don't see it happening.

Varlamov was traded in July of 2011 for a 2012 1st round pick. That means Colorado was willing to deal a 1st rounder in the following year, because they figured Varlamov would make them a better team during the 11-12 season, and the pick wouldn't be a high one. I could see a similar scenario happening with Bernier.

An established top line LW, or a high 2013 pick? I would doubt that.

Not bad.

Sorry bud, but if Pearson and Kitsyn are our starting forwards next season, then we're in for a long season. Imo, Pearson needs more seasoning down in manchester. And if and when he does get the call, I'd like to see him on the 3rd line, not 2nd. As for Kitsyn, I like to see how he does in manchester before we insert him into our lineup.

I know, I know, you get a little giddy since you see and follow these kids closer than most of us fans on board here but for the next season, our 2LW has to be a free agent, unless TT makes a miraculous transition as our 2LW which I doubt.

Frankly, I'm surprised that you didn't put Vey as our 4C. I think he has an outside chance there.

I don't know, but I'd be on the phone with the Penguins the second the offseason hits. Vokoun is too old to start an entire season and Fluery is a complete headcase. They've got to be pretty desperate after what they've been witnessing this past year and they've got plenty of offensive talent we could use.

I just don't see a GM paying a premuim for Johnny B,.

I mean you cont on one hand the Elite Goalies in this league.

Lots of mediocre out there, GM's don't believe in paying for Goalies.

Look at what has happened to Colorado and Tampa....You think Those teams are going to make the same mistake twice ?

I just feel like a GM would rather draft one and develop him.

Its pretty impressive how far we've gone in the playoffs with all our stars playing on one leg

If we have Kitsyn,Vey,Pearson,Kozun,Holloway, and Andy trying out for camp. We sound pretty great to have that.

Pens definitely need a starting goalie but they made a big push (and gave up WAY too much for what they got back) at the trade deadline because their window is closing. Not much CAP space and next year LeTang and Malkin need to be resigned. Not to mention the players that need contracts this year.
I think Shero is on the hot seat for some of the moves he's made and I think he'll get a veteran goalie to make a deep push next year before they lose Malkin. (who reportedly wants close to 10 mil which they can't afford) .
Ryan Miller and Luongo are available as is Ray Emery.

But there are some teams (like the Panthers -Versteeg would be nice coming back) Isles, Devils, Leafs (maybe) who will be shopping for a Goalie.
And I read somewhere last week that Patrick Roy likes French Canadian goalies and really likes Bernier, so there's a dark horse maybe.

Hmm, interesting. Beau Bennett?

I don't think it will happen the way I listed it, just thinking out loud. We don't have Holloway signed yet so duds is a longshot at best (a very very very long shot) too.

That said Kitsyn will also need a little time in MCH too. But, with the cap being what it is I see us playing either a rookie a picking up an RFA who is top 6 ready as part of the JB/AM deal.

Vey isn't ready. He needs a little more growth. His game is ready and he will get a look but his body is still a little bit behind.

But, since Stoll has two more seasons with us I think we will see Vey getting his injury call ups this year and start with the team next year.

He will have solid company in Shore down on the farm next season.

We are stupidly overloaded up the middle and it will become a problem sooner or later.

Carter following Kopi gives us two very big bodies down the middle that will give teams fits when everyone is healthy. Follow them up with Richards and we are going to give other teams fits.

Stoll as the fourth line not only gives us balance but also gives us some pop too.

Brown/Kopitar/Williams
xxxxxx/Carter/Toffi
Clifford/Richards/Lewis
King/Stoll/Nolan/Kozun etc

Its going to be an interesting off season for sure. JB and A Mart will likely be dealt. We will find out what is going to happen with WillieM and Scuds and what we will do to address our openings.

Should be fun to watch and we will see a much improved team going into next season.

This. Kopitar, Brown, Richards are 3 of the top 4 guys on offense and have been invisible. We definitely wouldn't be here without Quick but still impressive that we've gone to the Western Conference Finals while being a mediocre team.

The Kings would have to sign Holloway by July right ?

He is an UFA coming up.

Sorry to burst your bubble there bud, but teams don't win the cup inserting 6 unproven rookies to their veteran squad. I think Vey and/or Pearson may have an outside chance to make the club sometime during the season but I wouldn't expect any more additions from your list.

We're basically going to be the same club minus King, Richie, and maybe Penner and Fraser. I would expect DL is going to replace most of these players with proven vets or players on the verge of breaking out and not rookies.

Finding our 2LW and 3LW will be crucial for next year imo.

I'd actually like the Kings to target Vokoun. VERY solid backup goalie and he's played especially well behind that abomination of a defense.

don't get all the Dwight King hate. I actually think he's really good at creating opportunities and if he could learn to finish, has the potential to be playoff Penner good. I just want us to heal up and come back at it three times as hard next year.

Chicago is a great team. Too much hate is going on when credit needs to go to Chicago. These guys may be the best team in the league. I'm proud of our boys

You're not bursting anything, there's a reason its called training camp. There can be an addition to the line up. Im sure no one thought dwight king would be playing the whole season this year the first game we brought him on. We will see.

RIchards wasn't invisible. Shame you missed the first two playoff series where he provided a majority of the offense, 5 points in each series, in addition to everything else he did.
The Kings aren't a mediocre team.

I feel ....empty.

This is probably over so I want too see them fighting for it till the end.

Complaining about Sutter when half his top six on is on crouches..I don't know, kinda stupid. He was moving people around to get balance and he did great but who should replace King without disturbing that balance. Nolan, Pearce?

King has been bad but he does pressure and limit opponents in their zone and he is good at it but it doesn't create anything except it stalls and puts a wrench into play.

The Kings will have to find a good balance of offense/defense/checking from the four lines that they utilize moving forward from this point forward. The depth of the team has really been tested during these playoffs due to the injuries that the team has had to some significant players.

If they do decide to keep Carter at center, I think a wise move would be to reduce Kopitar's ice time from the 20+ minutes he is averaging. Tonight Kopitar had 21:48 of ice time with one shot on goal. Carter at 16:33. Stoll at 14:27, and Fraser at 8:18.

Spread those minutes around, and you'll see a fresher and healthier Kopitar in the late stages of the season. Reduce his ice time by two minutes and increase the ice time for Carter and Richards at center. Having four lines you could trust to have on the ice at all times.

The lineup I'd like to see on offense next season (that is with the current roster intact):

Pearson-Kopitar-Williams
Penner-Carter-Toffoli
Clifford-Richards-Brown
King-Stoll-Lewis
Spares: Nolan, Fraser

Of course the big assumption is whether or not Penner returns, and I could go either way with him. If he takes a severe pay cut and dedicates himself to having his best season yet, sure, bring him back, but only on the Kings' terms, not on his terms. If he wants a similar contract to what he earned this past season, let him shop his services elsewhere.

I know many are ready to push guys like King, Nolan, Clifford and Fraser off the roster, but this was a bit of a seesaw from not just those players but the entire organization. Cold start, then they heated up, then cooled down, then picked it up again before the playoffs, then finally ran out of gas during the playoffs.

We saw what King and Nolan brought to this team when they were called up to the roster in the midway point of the season last year. I think they could get back to that level of play where they were aggressive fore checking wingers who could grind down and wear out defensemen in the corners.

Clifford is a manchild who looks beastly out there at times. It is way too early to throw the towel on him. Fraser is a decent and capable utility guy who would be just fine serving as a spare forward on the roster. He's good to have around the room and he'll never complain about ice time. If somebody on the bottom six gets hurt, he can jump right in to the lineup.

This team won a Cup a year ago and a year later they were one of the four finalists to reach the Cup Finals. I think this team, banged up and all, got further than most of us imagined they would. Mind you, they accomplished this without their best defensive defenseman in Willie Mitchell, without the most physical defender on the blueline in Matt Greene for a good chunk of the season, and with an inexperienced blueline. The Kings didn't have the great fortune of staying healthy throughout the season and playoffs, and we learned just how valuable that can be during a deep playoff run.

I think a couple of upgrades could certainly help this team, but thankfully this team does not have to make significant changes to its roster. The most important pieces are already in place and they will continue to get better, as will the team when we see them healthy and fully intact next season.

Am I ready to throw in the towel yet on this season? No, I still think they can steal one in Chicago and extend this series, but I'm a realist and I'm willing to accept whatever result we see on Saturday. I'm just not throwing the towel in on the team for the future. This team will compete for multiple Stanley Cup for many years to come.

How has Richards been invisible? He led the team in points before getting a concussion and the PP has been even worse than usual without him. His defensive presence, leadership, and his swagger is severely missed as well. Lumping him in with Kopi and Brown is doing him a big injustice. It's obvious the team is missing him.
