Edmonton in 6 because of having two best players in the World, their experience, and the fact they play as underdogs against a team known to be "afraid to win"

Lets be honest guys, on PAPER, Colorado has SUBSTANTIALLY better D than Calgary.

If you were Colorado, how many Flames would you take on your D if you could have them for free? 1? Maybe 2 I guess, throw Hanifin-Tanev on your bottom pair. But we didn’t even have to face a healthy Tanev. And we didn’t have to face Doughty.

Colorado has 3 really good D pairs. Bowen Byram has more skill than any D on Calgary or LA that we faced.

Calgary got to top GA rankings with systems play and goaltending. Guys like Gudbranson and Zadorov are giant and slow and can’t hang with McDavid. There are no D on Colorado like that. Hopefully they make some mistakes that we can capitalize on when they are being hyper aggressive, but most of them are dangerous scoring threats.

Our D will have to play through the roof and we will be relying on Smith at times to win games. I believe in us but its going to be a slog. Woodcroft will have to outwit Bednar at times, I think.
What’s about Edmonton’s D against Colorados offense?

Only 4 teams scored 6 or more goals against AVS this season Capitals/Leafs/Sens/Oilers I like Oiler's chances and would also like to see both team's records from when Woody took over the reins in Edmonton. I looked it up Woody 26-9-3 Bednar 25-10-4

This doesn’t mean anything. Colorado was sleepwalking the last month of the season because they had the conference locked up.

Ask any Avs fan, they flipped the switch the moment the playoffs started.

I don't think any team can play defensively and expect to just shut down McDrai. The Avs play differently than the flames. We're gonna have the puck, we're gonna keep the puck that's our defense. Our dmen aren't scared of speed or quickness. I think we probably play more like LA than the flames, except we're better than LA in every aspect.

I was wondering if anyone was going to point out the most obvious challenge the Oilers will experience… it’s not the Avs D (which is good, superior to the Oilers)… it’s puck possession and scoring execution.

The Oilers forwards will have to play a near immaculate defensive game, playing deeper in the D zone, or they will be playing from behind on a regular basis… and that in itself been a big concern all playoffs.

For the first time in a very long time , I have confidence in our coaching staff. Woodcroft, Gulutzan and Manson have done an amazing job with in game strategies.

Well, let's hope history doesn't repeat itself.

The last time the Oilers had to play a team not in the Pacific, they got swept.
I can see how that saying really resonates with leafs fans like yourself. You were bang on with your predictions against the flames so let's hope you do it again.

If anyone has a link to the 2004 leafs-sens series, hook a brother up and share with this guy. It's been 18 years since the leafs have won anything and he needs something to cheer him up.

Man this thread has me really depressed. I'm not looking forward to seeing the Oilers absolutely curb stomp the poor pathetic Avs like this.

Anyone got a towel I can throw in? Will you spare our families if we surrender now?
Who thinks the Oilers will curb stomp the Avalanche?

oh yah i forgot how what it was like talking to a oilers fan .. haha .. i'll leave it here because most of you are never wrong and cant see anyone elses point
There's absolutely no substance to your response. If you're not going to address the point of the conversation, why are you on a hockey board?

Usually when there is lack of substance, people retort to making personal attacks or generalizations. It's a useless response and this seems like it'll be a useless conversation too.

And why on earth you are that offended that I called the Oilers the underdog...I have no idea.

Ahhh the 90’s. Tight purse strings, hard work and all heart hockey for Edm. If today’s uber talented edition of the Oilers can channel any of that energy and will there is nothing that will stop them.

I remember. Still have the ticket stubs.

Hopefully Craig can provide the current Oilers with the Toung of Harvey.

It gives +5 to work ethic and physicality.

He's also doing well in less obscure stats.

Any stat that has Michael Stone and Zadarov leading the way clearly the end all be all.

Just ask Horcoff, the GOAT of Corsi.

My comment was a reply to a guy, who claimed that McDrai will do anything against anyone. They will not against Avs and have not. And will not. It will be great series, a hockey fans dream. Hopefully haha. Colorado has the ability to shut it down, if they want. Oilers do not have that luxury.

Mcdavid and Draisaitl have not done anything vs the Avs?

Lol.

Mcdavid 11 goals, 16 assist, +6, 15 games vs Colorado.

Draisaitl 5 goals, 18 assists, +4, 16 games vs Colorado.

Might as well not play the games, eh?

We will see how it goes. Playoffs is different animal and now that this generation of Avs finally broke the curse of second round, I expect them to go all the way.

McDavid's ability to break open games.. widely, cannot be understated. He's looking pretty damn mighty.

I think because of that the Oilers stick around for 7 games.

Avs should prevail but both teams can score at will and both have questionable goaltending. Last series I predicted a 9-5 game before it happened and I will predict two games will be 7-3 and maybe one 6-5. These will not be low scoring games.

I think that’s the whole series. Edmonton’s D can play well but they also can have total chaos in their game. Colorado will victimize them if they don’t play at their peak level. Smith will average out a solid performance but if the D are discombobulated there will be a litany of grade A chances and Colorado has plenty of finishers.

At their best, which they dont achieve with regularity, they are a good D. Like I said, it likely defines the series one way or anOther.

I might be a bit upset still after the Binnington injury, but objectively I think that this could be the best possible Western conference final and I hope the hockey is as good as, or better than, I expect.

I certainly hope for 6-7 games.

Actually, I did not know that and I apologize for misrepresenting that they played weaker competition. I missed that the schedule was updated so that skews my previous outlook on the qoc. However, I do stand by the rest of my statement.
4 games against 5 of teams in your division, 3 vs fhe other 2 teams(avs only played 3 vs dallas and st louis, 2 of tougher teams in division) 3 games agaimst teams in the other division in your conference. 2 games against all the other teams in the opposing conference.

With the way the schedules are very balanced now, it feels silly to have divisional plauoffs as their is very little extra division competition during the regular season to even group teams by division.
