Lets be honest guys, on PAPER, Colorado has SUBSTANTIALLY better D than Calgary.

If you were Colorado, how many Flames would you take on your D if you could have them for free? 1? Maybe 2 I guess, throw Hanifin-Tanev on your bottom pair. But we didn’t even have to face a healthy Tanev. And we didn’t have to face Doughty.

Colorado has 3 really good D pairs. Bowen Byram has more skill than any D on Calgary or LA that we faced.

Calgary got to top GA rankings with systems play and goaltending. Guys like Gudbranson and Zadorov are giant and slow and can’t hang with McDavid. There are no D on Colorado like that. Hopefully they make some mistakes that we can capitalize on when they are being hyper aggressive, but most of them are dangerous scoring threats.

Our D will have to play through the roof and we will be relying on Smith at times to win games. I believe in us but its going to be a slog. Woodcroft will have to outwit Bednar at times, I think.

For sure. EDM are huge underdogs. Many Oil fans know this. Top to bottom Colorado is by far the better team. That said EDM did play the Avs hard in the regular season all games were incredibly close (under Woodcroft). It's going to take a monumental effort for them to advance but that's why playoff hockey is so great. Anything can happen.

You guys are going to eat Jack Johnson alive. He’s easily our biggest worry on defence. As well, Erik Johnson has trouble making effective decisions under pressure. There’s room to exploit them for sure. The others will mostly get burned on the counter attack where they misjudge a pinch or flub a pass/shot, as well as the occasional misplay in the d zone.

I do think Girard will be missed in this series, and Kuemper has looked human. Oilers have been burying a high % of their chances this playoffs and if that continues it could put a lot of pressure on the Aves to produce big numbers.

Ya. That's why home ice and matching Toews/Makar against the McDrai will be critical.

My prediction is the Colorado Avalanche will win 4 games in this series and Connor Mcdavid and his teammates will win 2 games

In some ways I feel bad for kuemper. He has an unenviable task in that we don’t allow a lot of shots but due to our offensive nature the chances we give tend to be high quality. It can’t be easy to be cold most of the period and then be expected to make the save on an odd man rush. I get that you need your goalie to make the timely saves but it’s not an easy ask considering the circumstances.

He could be better for sure but he hasn’t cost them any games and really, for me anyways, that’s what really matters. With the style of play and quality of players on the Avs, if my goalie is .900 or better, then if they lose it more often than not is on the skaters rather than the goalie.

As Smith goes, so goes the series. If Smith doesn't melt down and plays well, I call Edmonton in seven. If he shits the bed, Avs in 6.

Oilers in 6. Colorado is great and by no means will any result surprise me, but I’ve only seen the Oilers losing to Tampa Bay in my visions of the Finals.

I think this is going to be a nerve racking back and forth series. I expect it to go 6 or 7 games with either team coming out on top. It should be exciting hockey. I hope the refs swallow the whistles and let them play.

Only 4 teams scored 6 or more goals against AVS this season Capitals/Leafs/Sens/Oilers I like Oiler's chances and would also like to see both team's records from when Woody took over the reins in Edmonton. I looked it up Woody 26-9-3 Bednar 25-10-4

Colorado didn’t play at even close to full strength down the stretch.

Either did the Oilers

You guys were in a playoff push and generally healthy, the top 6 was for sure. Avs were missing a lot of major peices. Doesn’t matter anyways regular season means nothing, avs are more playoff battle tested.. but oilers can easily steal games with their duo. Should be a good one.

Generally healthy?

No.

As long as refs don't fall for dives this should be an even and entertaining series

I tried the "Maggie the Monkey" method and spun a wheel in order to determine the results of these playoffs and came up with an Edmonton/Tampa final with Tampa winning so it looks like your vision is correct ;)

Refs are just going to call everything this series, watch. A skill series? Leagues wet dream to "grow the game" and showcase constant power plays.

Hoping the refs don't destroy the game and the flow of this series.
