And how about games 1 & 2? And from what I recall at least 3 of the penalties against the Oilers were pretty cut and dry. Kane boarding, Nurse delay of game, and the high stick call on Makar.

But yeah I can agree that Mike Smith was horrible on that Compher goal. Frankie let in a softie too though.
I was under the impression you were discussing yesteraday's game but game 1 was pretty even at 5v5 with a slight advantage towards Colorado, game 2 the Oilers got stomped, game 3 was Oilers favoured. You can argue the calls on the Oilers were blatant penalties but they missed a lot of blatant ones against the Avs (the most notable being the MacKinnon slewfoot on Draisaitl in the 1st period).

This comment is very fair and probably accurate. The Avs value analytics greatly. Players like Nichushkin and Lehkonen, by many seen as great 3rd liners, are playing in the top 6 for the Avs and having a huge impact on this series. Each has had a substantial impact on this series and each (at least to this point) makes less than RNH.

The Oilers should be targeting middle 6 guys who have high compete levels and who are difficult to play against. And why exactly are they not willing to trade Holloway or Broberg? Yes they have ELCs and bridge deals but Edmontons window coincides with McDavid's and Draisaitl's window. Even once these guys start playing, how long will it be before they're truly ready to compete at the level of the Western Conference finals?
The Oilers window isn't open in the first place b/c we have a garbage general manager in Ken Holland who doesn't even have an analytics department and allocated 19 million in cap hit between Nurse/Keith/Barrie. We actually just don't have the cap space to fit in any more depth b/c we have an overpaid #2 dman and 2 Marc-Andre Bergeron clones taking up a quarter of our payroll. We're probably unironically better off praying guys like Holloway/Broberg can turn into Byram esque studs who become impact contributors on ELCs. Chances are you're not getting better players at comparable cost.

Chris MacFarland should be looking for a GM job in the next few years right? Wanna send him over? Maybe he can convince Keith to retire.

Watching this series it has to be discouraging for Edmonton to see how far they still have to go to beat a top contender. And they don’t really have the cap space or prospect pipeline to improve much this off season. It’s hard to see how they get the team to that level during McDavid and Draisaitl’s peak years. As hard as it is to believe, Draisaitl will already be turning 27 later this year.
As a fan of both players this is tough to watch.

Stupid post considering he’s injured. But go ahead and attack someone who’s clearly laboring if that makes you feel like more of a man.
Matthews required wrist surgery that left him off the ice until the season was underway, after an injury sustained part way through the previous season, and people dump on him constantly for poor performance in the Habs series.

You can't have it both ways here, where some injuries are ok to ignore and some aren't.

Draisaitl has played 4.5 games without McDavid these playoffs and he has been a complete ghost in those games.

What he did with McDavid is admirable however.

The expectation among the fanbase is that Joe will take on an elevated title allowing MacFarland to take on the role of GM.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the knock on Broberg his IQ or thinking the game? Everyone knew he could skate extremely well but hockey IQ was never really a knock on Byram.

There are unironically ppl on our boards who defend Ken Holland for building this garbage roster and f***ing up our cap that hard b/c the two future Hall of Famers went nuclear and dragged these bums into the WCF.

You see--what the Oilers complain about isn't obvious (such as the 'Landeskog headshot' on Yamamoto) or the alleged slewfoot on the already one-legged Drai. I mean Oilers fans are still vehemently complaining the non-offside call in Game 1 for God's sakes. Complaining about calls seems to be a coping mechanism for the situation their team is in. The Oilers, their fans, and even the coaching staff are more focused past 'missed calls' than on their own discipline. Let's see how that pans out for them in the upcoming games.

The Oilers have a garbage roster brought to a level they don't deserve by McDavid/Draisaitl/Woodcroft, I have never said otherwise. They were always going to lose this series. It's also objectively true that MacKinnon slewfooted Draisaitl, those are not mutually exclusive.

Man these injuries are brutal. Kadri 100 point pace this year. 63 for Burakovsky. Girard. Kuemper.

This is still an absolute beatdown against this bad Edmonton team but these injuries are really going to hurt against any of those east teams.

You forgot Makar and Mackinnon , i have no idea why the're not injured after all the shots they recieve game after game . Kane took Kadri out last night but you seems to forget that Kane went after Makar the game before. They even said it on TV ( in french ) , something like : Kane is trying to take Makar out of the game because he's doing such a great job against Mcdavid.

Last year the Avs never had a healthy Erik Johnson and it hurt them because they had to play Ryan Graves on the second pairing. This year they do have a healthy Erik Johnson and they also have Jack Johnson. So they're much deeper on the blueline this year but they will need Girard back for the cup finals.

Girard is out for the playoffs. They have Ryan Murray waiting in the wings.

McDavid Draisaitl RNH Hyman Kane and Yamamoto is one of the better and well balanced top 6s if Drai was healthy.

Nurse is overrated and overpaid but he's not a bad player.

If the Oilers were healthy instead of two of their best being liabilities they could easily win.

And McKinnon and others are trying to take out Draisaitl. That’s playoff hockey. Both teams have some key injuries. The Avalanche just have the depth to cover for injuries. And realistically no team could cover for a player like Draisaitl being injured.

Alright now look at our bottom 6. Foegele/McLeod/Puljujarvi are salvageable players but they don't have a pair of hands between the 3 of them. Kassian is an outright liability and another Ken Holland Justin Abdelkader special. Josh Archibald is the absolute single worst player in the NHL who analytically is a bigger outlier as a negative than McDavid is as a positive and the only reason he doesn't harm the team more is b/c he plays 5 mins per night. The top 6 is good but McDavid/Draisaitl are making Kane/Hyman/RNH look better than they actually are, which would be fine if we didn't support that top 6 with a non-human bottom 6, a non tire fire defense, and 2 non coinflippers in net.

Should be the game breaker Devon Shore into the lineup, he would put this Oilers bottom 6 over the top.

I believe so yes. Just think the Red Sox 0-3 comeback in 2004 against the super elite Yankees was a bit more impressive . Of course i have Sox bias so 😏

As a Torontonian I am by nature destined to hate all Boston teams

so...

F the Bruins
F the Red Sox
F the Celtics
F the Patiorts

Leafs Rule
Jays Rule
Raptors Rule
Well.... I used to be a closet patriot fan due to what brady/belichick accomplished, and Gronk is crazy lol... but boston is probably the most luckiest city in the world. They have top sports teams, top schools MIT, Harvard and has great history so F boston

Shouldn't you be busy worrying about Gaudreau's new contract with Philadelphia or New Jersey and Tkachuk's incoming 12 million dollar per season deal? Maybe we can have Tkachuk double up and play goalie for Jacob "Vezina" Markstrom.

Avalanche are a better team and Mike Smith has been wildly inconsistent. Most Oilers fans were like WTF this past offseason when Holland didn’t improve the position. Still a good feat for the Oilers to get to the WCF.
