What is “high-volume scoring” in the context you’ve used? I’ve never heard that before and not only does it sound incorrectly used but it also doesn’t sound good for any dman to be associated with, especially if they are supposedly a shutdown guy. What else does he bring to the team?

Yeah he’s a big loss. Nobody loses their 8th best player they picked up at the TDL with massive injury risks and can survive. Series over now.

"8th best player"? He's the 2nd best dman on the team. Take away any teams 2nd best dman and I think they'd be in trouble. If the Oilers were missing Ekholm would fans not mention how he's a big loss?

Not sure what the discussion is even for though, Tanev is not out of the lineup. Badly injured, but not out.

Whatever Tanev was in the regular season, he hasn't been in the WCF. Even before his injury. He is far too hyped up for what he is and dare I say overrated. I won't say things about other stars because I don't know them well, but ive been watching Tanev for years because of his former teams.

I am captain of the Tanev is overrated fan club. Overrated in Vancouver, Overrated in Calgary and in the WCF is a non factor. He isn't 25 anymore and he doesn't scare the Oilers. He got his stick on that one shot McDavid waited 30 seconds to shoot on, that is the totality of his effect on this series. Dallas might do better to get ayounger quicker body in his spot. Guy is hobbled out there and being exposed, I'll give him credit for being tough, but I think hes hurting the team out there.

hindsight is always 20/20. some people just want to see everything in a negative they always hate us mindset and some people just enjoy the moment. the reason ppl thought Edmonton was going to get dummied was no one’s fault but Edmonton’s or more specifically their play. Stuart Skinner looking like an ECHL goalie, going down 2-3 against a 3rd string goalie playing average, looking helpless if McDrai don’t get on the board etc. It was all earned. And now they look like a different team. good for them
They really don’t look different at all. Vancouver was just the best team in the league when they get momentum after a goal and their shooters had edmontons number. Silovs wasn’t playing average he was playing out of his mind and that’s the main reason the series was close. Vancouver was also the only team so far to break edmontons PK. Albeit only for 2 games but still they cracked it where as no one else has.

Because I predicted Dallas to win the series, I HATE Edmonton...? Man it must be hard to be a Oilers fan these days, you guys are so persecuted.
Dude. Don't be melodramatic. They aren't talking about people who predicted the stars to win. They are talking about all the people who say Edmonton has no defense. Edmonton is 2 man team. Edmonton has never beat any real teams in the playoffs. Dallas in 3. Etc. Don't pretend you haven't seen those comments

think people just have this false assumption that the oilers are still the 2020-2022 oilers of mcdavid draisaitl and a bunch of bums and bad defense. In actuality this oilers team ranked as one of the best defensive teams and there is plenty of other offensive talent between nuge, hyman, Evander Kane, henrique, and an emerging holloway

You can say that again!

Just a really wrong take honestly. I assume you didn't watch the first 2 rounds for the Stars where Tanev was incredible against Eichel and then MacKinnon. Stars outscoring them both 3-0 and 3-1 respectively with Tanev on the ice, and he played a massive part in it.

He's having a rough series in this one (same with every Stars player for the most part), but most dmen do against the McDavid/Draisaitl matchup. Doesn't mean he's not still making good plays though, it's impossible to keep those guys off the score sheet 100% of the time. Without him, we'd be having Suter/Petrovic out there against them often.

Why are we comparing them in the first place? Matthews isn’t even Draisaitls level.
Why are we comparing them in the first place, because Matthews is golfing right now. The funner comparison is comparing him to someone still in it like Barkov

No I didn't watch closely against the knights or the Avs, it's why I didn't make a judgment call on them. I am familiar with Tanevs career though and I think hes overrated and having a bad series against the Oilers, to the point that im thinking hes hurting the stars out there. Im sure he was great during the regular season and previous two round, but this man is out of gas and handicapped by a foot injury now, couple that with age and I just don't view him as a threat. He wasn't a threat in his other Playoff series against the Oilers either. of course, I am biased and fully admit it, but Tanev isn't the guy the media makes him out to be.

Imo Tanev was Calgary's best D in the playoffs vs Edmonton a couple years ago. He put Dallas's depth over the top. Dallas had to go through both Vegas and Colorado. The toughest route to the conference finals out of everyone AINEC, and Tanev had tough assignments.

I haven't been super impressed by Tanev's play in the 3rd round either, but we do have also remember he's getting the most difficult matchup in the entire league this round. Everyone's advanced stats get caved in by McDavid. He's been on the ice for more goals against this round than the previous 2 combined, however if you swapped in anyone other than Heiskanen, that number is going to be significantly worse. So in that sense only giving up a couple of goals more when tasked with the difficult matchup isn't bad.

The Stars laid back type of play is really hurting them. They were down 3-0 going into the third and they were not pushing hard enough, heck the last 5 minutes they were struggling to even get the puck into the Oilers zone. The Oilers were outplaying them, if this continues, the Stars will be done in game 6

I said this in game 1, Edmonton has McDavid and Draisaitl. But what impressed me is the buy in from the Oilers team. From stars to the lowest ranking player on the ice. They all want the same thing, to win the Cup. That to me was the dangerous part of this Oilers team. Looks like they are very focused, and they did not celebrate winning game 3 like they won the cup. Almost was low key, loved that. Celebrate if they win the series.

They lost game 3 or are you referring to game 5?

I've been watching the Oilers play, and I think that in these playoffs, their opponents are having a hard time attacking consistently, and when they do, it's for shorter periods and they're also taking advantage of individual mistakes by Edmonton.

I think that overall, Edmonton has visibly grown as a team, as a unit.

Rangers-Panthers series reminds me a lot of the Stars-Oilers series.

Every Panthers win has been followed up by an Oilers win. Rangers had 2-1 series lead, Stars had a 2-1 series lead.

Rangers have lost 3 straight now after tonight, Stars have lost 2 straight so far...lose tomorrow and it's a perfect copy of the ECF.

Even the way the teams are playing reminds me of this series. Oilers controlling the last 2 games, Stars best players not showing up. Same thing in the East

Well good luck the rest of the way, Oilers. Not sure if I'll be watching any more hockey until the fall.

Let's go Celtics!
