I value the seeing eye test and actual hockey knowledge. The season doesn’t mean f*** all. After the first half of the season, the Canucks fell down to earth and weren’t really consider a threat to do much damage come playoffs. The Kings never had a chance come playoff time and were seeing as the easiest match up in the West as the playoffs approached.

Colorado and Vegas are on another level. It’s as simple as that and it’s an insult to those team to put the Kings and Canucks on the same sentence as them. The entire hockey world knows that aside from some of Oilers nation.
I don't think anyone is saying that? It was, however, pointed out that those teams were stronger defensively which you interpreted as better overall.

Also, what more can a team do than beat what's in front of them? All this talk about easier roads is counterfactual. Why waste energy talking about which team is better when a series is just about to determine just that?

You'd think this thread is Gandalf vs Darth Vader or something. Which Gandalf would win btw.

yeah, no. Playoff hockey is different than regular season hockey. Vegas did the good old cheat job with their salary cap and assembled the team that kicked the Oilers ass quite easily.

Y'all depend on 2 players with a crappy goalie and bad defense. The Stars gonna run you up quite easily. Tanev will shut down your top offensive line as he did to Mackinnon.

You're delusional if you think the Oilers are a top team. You beat a crappy Kings team and a Canucks team that is inexperienced. Y'all getting cooked starting tomorrow night.
Jesus doesn't love you. He plays for the Oilers.

The problem with "the seeing eye test (lol)" is that if you don't have any stats to back it up, it's just your opinion.

Those extra fee days off probably benefit edmonton alot more then Dallas
Havent followed Dallas but anyone fighting injuries for them?
Dallas had to have the days off to really have a shot at the Cup. I think only team in the playoffs that didn't have two days off at least once. Think they'd played 12 in 24 or 13 in 26 games going back to the end of the regular season. Hintz missed the last few and is questionable for game one.

This is not a smart take at all. Bouchard isn’t a #1 D until he plays 26 minutes a night with a #5 D? By this logic there aren’t any #1 D in the league.
Well, #1 Heiskanen drug around a 5/6 D around for a big chunk of his career (Suter) until Harley emerged.

The Canucks are a good team, but they remind me very much of the 2021/2022 Panthers. Need to retool a little bit for the playoffs. Also, need to not have the shit luck of being forced to play their 97th string goalie.

I think Dallas is a much different animal.

How was this your takeaway from that post lol.
bc that post was very similar to the post that started the paper tiger thread. here's the og:

"They are the hipster team right now because of their drafting and that they are an NHL Southern market and that they have a lot of good players without a big hole in their team.

But they aren't a team that scares you. They don't have any of the NHL's true elite players. Heiskanen might the closest they have, but lets face it most people aren't picking him over Makar, Fox, Hedman, Hughes. Robertson and Hintz are players that often get a reputation as underrated offensive players around the league, but they aren't even facing up to Stone and Eichel, let alone what a potential matchup with McDrai would like like. Oettinger has had a mediocre year and right now isn't the player he's known as.

Their young players are good, but not ready to carry them yet and they aren't like Bedard level guys either."

here's the new post:

Dallas has great depth but they do not have a player that can take over a game. Jake may be the exception but we haven't seen him do that in over 2 years.

It's an insult to those dynasties in comparing them to the stars. They don't even slightly resemble the teams you mentioned:

-Tampa at the time had top 3 players at all major positions and arguably the best D and goalie in the league.
-Pittsburgh had 2 of the best 3 players in the league for that entire decade along with Letang. MAF had very average stats in the years they played the flyers but was nonetheless solid
-Chicago had a mix of players who won the selke, art and Norris all recently when they were winning cups

Dallas doesn't have a single player who finished in the top 25 in points this year and Bouchard outscored every single player on their roster this year. Dallas is favorite and deservedly so, but they do not resemble any of those dynasties. The golden knights of last year are the best comparable because both teams roll 4 solid lines and have very few holes on their team.

maybe you just missed the paper tiger mess that turned hf meme.

A team full of gutless floppers and a captain with serious character issues is not a likeable team to those who actually care about the sport. The Stars will expose these clowns as the frauds that they are.
the amount of crying by fans of a handful of teams about the Oilers is epic.

Is it jealousy? is it just bitterness that the Oilers beat their team? is the fact that McDavid and Draisaitl are Oilers? or is it that the Oilers have an incredibly knowledgeable (and also very annoying, guilty as charged) fan base?

regardless, it is quite funny how some people's lives seem to be in complete shambles whenever the Oilers PROVE that they are a legitimate Stanley Cup contender....and I love it

Anyhoo....Oilers in 6

Whole 'nother level. Vegas hasn't been a playoff team outside of their first dozen games this year.

Canucks limped through the second half of the season at a 108 point pace

surprisingly little made so far of the holland/nill connection.

idk much about holland, but nill has been the ultimate in class for dallas, and i know they're close.
