I’m a big fan of Plant’s solo work. I especially like that he developed his own sound rather than trying to be Led Zep lite.
He was conscious of not becoming a parody. He had a young set of musicians with vets mostly on drums. He also utilized his looks and skill during the height of MTV. Heaven Knows was something excerpted for promos along side newer bands. One concert, I saw him open for The Who. Not a bad set of lead singers that night.

Got to see him on his first full solo tour at the Spectrum in 83, great show. He only played songs from his first 2 solo albums, no Zep at all. I remember some of my friends weren’t happy with that, but I thought his band was great that night.

While I never saw them in person, I did enjoy the stuff he did with Page in the mid 90s. The reworked versions of some of the old Zeppelin songs were very cool.

Seems you went to the shows I did not attend and vice versa. I saw a few shows with Jimmy Page. And though it was a horrible display technically, I was at the MSG 40th Anniversary Atlantic Records Bash in which the surviving members got on stage well after midnight. But I was there. Seeing bands and artists from Lavern Baker to Laura Branigan to CDN to the Bee Gees to Yes to Genesis to Page/Plant/Jones, etc.

XPN is f***ing spectacular. You just have to listen at the right time, because they will dedicate certain parts of the day/week to different programming. For example, Friday nights is Funky Friday starting at 6 PM so if you don't like Funk/Soul music and tuned in at that time, then you might come away thinking it's not the station for you. The majority of the week though is dedicated to just excellent music from every decade, all genres, without minimal commercials, and no Top 40 garbage.
Awesome - thanks for the tip. I will look up their programming schedule. I don't mind some good funk/soul on a Friday. Looking for new alt / rock / punk all the time. It's out there, just gotta find it!

So MMR is bringing back the BBQ....

Shinedown, Billy Idol, Larkin Poe, Aryon Jones on the main bill...

Dirty Honey, Finger Eleven, Tigercub and Vixen77 on the GA portion.

Not sure what to think.

For those who are fans, Blink 182 will be playing their first show together with the “original” lineup tonight at Coachella. Their set will stream on YouTube at 9:30-9:45pm EST (ish). I’m pretty psyched about this. They’re a fun band.

I was ina supermarket a few hours ago and held Capt and Tennille, Love Will Keep Is Together. It caused a whole body twitch of disgust and flashback agony.

I respect the musical tastes of anyone.

I can play, and have played, some rocking shit. However, this is one of my absolute favorite songs to play (me playing in this vid). Hal Blaine was on drums in this recording. If you've not heard of him, he was a GD legend in 60's and early 70's recordings.

I don't think I've ever heard that song before. The only Four Seasons song I play with any regularity (every few years) is "Can't Take My Eyes Off You".

I didn't watch the clips in full, but the second drummer looked a bit "stiff". Pretty extreme angle on the tom toms too....like 80's metal style. But, whatever. I can play a lot of songs really well, but after a solid 40 years of drumming (I'm 48 now) I still have holes in my game!

I'd love to play bass. My mind thinks bass. I'd go pickless. However, everytime I think about getting one I think about how I still am so far away from mastering drums that I can't/won't do it....not because I don't think I couldn't become proficient on bass, but because it would feel like I'm cheating myself on trying to master my true instrument.

Also, I have a bunch of vids posted of other bands and other songs. None of it is monetized, I just set up the camera, jam a bunch of songs, and if I think they sound ok I'll post them. Some have some mistakes, but I don't really care. I most certainly don't try to record perfect versions to post. I hit record and let it fly, flaws and all. Some nights are better than others, but I'm usually pretty solid on any of the Zep songs. I've played most of those for a long time. However, there are still screw ups in parts, lol.

As a life long Jersey guy, the Four Seasons is a group I listen to when I want to head back to my childhood being a little older than you.
