Built to Spill show last night at Union Transfer. Doug & Co. were in fine form. Played some favorites, encored with Broken Chairs, but Liar was the high point for me.

The openers, Itchy Kitty were a bit much for me. Amazing punk rock stage presence, but a little too heavy on the caterwauling vocals for my taste. They were followed Prism Bitch, who were all over the place musically (straight punk, synthy pop, even a rock number that sounded like something out of 1986), but also amazing stage presence. Everyone was having a blast, in contrast to Doug's typical plaintive crooning. The drummer, who also does double duty in Built to Spill these days, is worth the price of admission all by herself. Anyway, here's one I really liked by them.

Also this came out a few days ago... first song from the album that will be released in August.

Crazy it is 11 years since their last album... albeit like ~5 songs released in the interim and a lot of touring.

Probably the best band I have ever seen live and they have really never released anything worse than "solid" so looking forward to it.

Happened upon this on Spotify and I'm currently a little obsessed. It takes a little while to get where it's going but boy is it worth it when it does.

This is from way back in 06. Kinda prefigures a lot of the dream / bedroom pop that was going to be the thing several years later. She's recorded so little and her first full-length follow-up (with well over a decade and some tragedy in-between) is a very different animal.
