If you're hanging all your hopes on a bottom 4 dman with some possible personality issues (nobody knows outside management what happened between Walman and DRWs org, but something went sideways). That's probably why Walman had no value. I put Vrana and Walman in the same box.

Walman was healthy scratched during the most important stretch of the season for a reason Something happened. Yzerman will never disclose it to you and neither will SJS.

At the end of the day Yzerman made DRWs whole after getting rid of cancer. That's good GMing.

That's not true. 2nd round picks can turn into steals (not often, but sometimes). That's why I praise Yzerman for landing the free 2nd rounder from Nashville! That's good asset managment.
Gm's said they were surprised walman was available and they would have been interested. At worst we probably could have attached a 5th to 7th if need be

Odds are we would have got a pick and kept our 2nd. Whether we used the pick in a trade or drafted a prospect who knows. I would have taken lukas fischer so if he becomes a solid top 4 dman I'll be pissed if he becomes a pro scout like his dad ah well lol

Seriously I think it was a bad deal and looking at how much offense our back end is giving us this season it looks worse. (Not that I'm a huge walman fan)

anyways to each his own

At worst seems like we packaged a 2nd with him.

What GMs?

'What I learned "if anything" about the Walman trade'. Lol.

When the writer says "trust me" as their 'evidence', then you pretty much know it's BS written for clicks. Anyone can build a website and write content with "trust me" evidence as their sticking point.

Some gullible people might actually see it as gospel and post it on a message forum to say "here's the facts!".

What else you got?

Sean is a well respected and connected member of hockey media. Literally nobody on here thought Walman needed a 2nd attached to him, and neither did other teams

His content offers no confidence that he has any "inside sources", but rather uses "trust me" conjecture. You have not proven your claims using weak content. His speculation doesn't fit with the facts that we know and common sense of the situation.

We know more about Vrana, but Yzerman has said nothing. We know nothing about Walman's issues as Grier seems tight lipped as Yzerman. Yzerman's treatment of Walman is similar to Vrana. Yzerman has shown zero tolerance in both scenarios.

The 2nd rounder is insignificant especially when SFY landed a free 2nd in the Gibson trade. It's weird people are so torn up about it. You'd think SFY murdered their firstborn or something... Bizarre-o!

The only reason the 2nd rounder is insignificant is because the team hasn't hit on a single 2nd rounder since Hronek

Lol. 60th overall pick, Albert Johansson, literally just played 16 minutes in Detroit's last win. LMAO!!!!

Please stop, dude. You are making yourself look silly.

People are really tore up over a 2nd round pick, especially after Yzerman got a free 2nd rounder in the Nashville trade. I'm surprised the Walman trade is still some point of contention.
Free 2nd rounder? They traded Andrew Gibson one of our most underrated prospects it definitely wasnt free.

The consensus on the trade board was it should have been 1-for-1, and people where ripping Trotz for throwing in the 2nd. I agree with the consensus. It was a free 2nd.

Yes, a #6 dman making his NHL debut 6 years after he was drafted is Yzerman's only non top 10 pick in the NHL

Free 2nd in the gibson deal ... only one who got a free 2nd were the sharks. We got a 2nd in a trade for a promising young right handed dman(righties are always in higher demand)

And we gave that away for moving an asset that didn't require us to give up that high cost. It's bad asset management, period.

Hey look we just traded nate danielson for a 1st and some 3rd round prospect and we traded that 1st to trade tarasenko... it was a free 1st who cares ... come on man.

Is it the end of the world we gave a 2nd away like were santa claus? No. Doesnt mean it wasn't a horrible trade no matter how many times you try to spin it

So which is it? "Wings haven't hit on a single 2nd rounder since Hronek [2016]", or 2019?
I define "hit" as getting an impact player in the draft. I like Johansson, but you can sign 10 Johansson's in free agency for 1m every year

Kiiskinen is having a hell of a better season than Gibson is...

Also, at this point the theory of "This is how much we wanted you off the team." is as valid of a theory as any other up to and including "No one was asked to trade for Walman before Steve called up SJ forcing a 2nd rounder on them."

I have no idea what you're trying to say. It reads like garbled word salad.

Yzerman got rid of cancer for a 2nd after Yzerman scored a free 2nd in a trade for a prospect that we had in abundance. ASP likely made Gibson expendable. Jesse Kiiskinen is damn good prospect in his own right.

Are you personally happy the fact that, the only player on the team drafted outside the 1st round since Yzerman took over in 2019 is Albert Johansson, who is essentially our 6/7#D?

The jury is still out on 2021 and onwards, but 2019-2020 isn't tracking well outside of the 1st round. Which is unfortunate because the team had so many picks in the later rounds.

If that is your standard, then you can look at the 2nd round drafts since 2019 and see nobody hit. Jeeze man, you are making a name for yourself here. You might want to stop.

How do you expect Yzerman to "hit" when NO GM HAS HIT based on your standards!!1!!!1?????

When I look at the 2019 draft, I see Yzerman didn't miss on anything. So there's that....

Am I happy Yzerman didn't pull a rabbit out of his hat? No, I am not happy Yzerman can't make a Nikita Kucherov magically appear out of thin air even when there was none available. Damit Yzerman!!!

There are currently 16 teams with middle 6/2nd pairing and up quality players on their roster drafted 2019+ that weren't 1st rounders

That's a false premise though. Are you seeing someone argue that?

To add: I would have loved to have Alex Vlasic on the team, and just any cheap secondary scoring would be nice aswell.
