Yup. We had a lot of quality chances and the skill to bury them. SOG mean nothing to me.
im a psu hockey fan. psu hockey has outshot the opposition basically every game since they went d1 like 8 years ago. higher skill teams still win more often than not when they can at least come close to matching the intensity and dont play stupid. star players only need one chance to score.

If they get Meier watch out.

This game will make them do something serious before the TDL. They huffed and puffed but really didn't have anything apart from huffing and puffing. Not sure if Meier will add the missing ingredient. Maybe Karlsson but that's also a gamble.

Idk what was more improbable coming into tonight, 4 goals for Panarin or 1 for Sammy Blais
Leddy hit him with a home run pass as he got out of the penalty box for a breakaway.

He's also wearing #79

Canes transition defense is not good and their forwards don't transition well. Dump and grind. A non-skilled team will struggle to beat them.

Also Carolina seems to have one gear and it's always 5. Come playoffs, that doesn't work, everyone is at 5.

See that's what I've been saying. Early in the season we tried to dominate and choke our opponents but they won the games. Now it's reversed, there is something about creating far more dangerous chances on the counter attack and rushes that is important in hockey. It's hard to score through the goalies kneepads or 500 bodies (ask Panarin).

SOG is one of the most useless statistics without context. The Rangers usually win when they are outshot and they generally have higher quality chances. The Canes throw pucks on net from all over. That's their game and we know how to play them. I remember they had 65 SOG against somebody this year and lost lol.

Carolina also doesn’t win on the road in the playoffs….tough way to win a series

and the rangers have had elite goaltending for most of my life so you need to really out chance the rangers to win more often than not.

Lafreniere was excellent tonight, just like last night. He hustled in every shift, finished his checks and made plays. It's like watching a completely different player. Several times tonight and last night you saw him breaking down the wing with speed and setting up options. He's starting to look more like that player in those highlight reels that we all saw before he was drafted. I definitely get the impression that he's forming into more of a playmaker first, than finisher at this current point in time.

NYR feed said that Jordan Staal's line was purposely matched up against the Pan-Zib-Tara line because they were afraid of it. The Staal line did a good job shutting it down but having two lines that Panarin can now pivot to is very useful, whether he's on the first line with Tarasenko, or the second line with Tro. It will always keep the opponent guessing and having to adjust.

The Carolina feed at the end of the game said that Miller is a "burgeoning star", when he set up the play that led to Panarin's hat trick.

It was funny when Fox had the puck behind Halak and the Carolina fanbase boo'd. It happened multiple times.

Also funny listening to a random NYR fan whistle the "Potvin s*cks" chant prompt in the crowd. It sometimes felt like a home game.

Interesting nugget: Fox is in a bit of a cold snap, 2 pts in the last 6 games. But it's a little refreshing to know that he doesn't need to carry the offense much less the whole team like he had done for long stretches.

This is a good hockey team.

Called it

I took a look at the standings and two things stuck out to me:
1. How are we still that much behind Carolina and debbies
2. 2 points back, 1 game in hand against Toronto. Who everyone in Canada has creamed on lately for being so good.

After that Trouba helmet toss, we have been pretty f***ing good par for 1 or 2 games. We are much better than last year. We play better, Igor is not bailing us out every game. Neither is Halak.

I just want to crush the debbies 4-0 in the 1st round.
20-4-3 since the chicago loss
