Playing in the CHL doesn't seem to hurt 19 yo Canadian players' development. Kucherov will develop there np, especially with Patrick Roy who knows a thing or two about the NHL. Buffalo needs a center so Grigorenko has a good chance of sticking with the Sabres, solving the Sorenson issue. Hope they all have a good year.

Seriously, pro grind in QMJHL?
To adjust to it. "They say" the 70-game schedules and heavy travel in the CHL helps one adjust. But that's usually in comparison to college hockey, say. Not really factoring in the vast distances the KHL spans and its associated travel. But there is also a "pro grind" style on the ice in the CHL maybe moreso than some other places... at least in terms of the size of the ice surface and the resulting impact that has on how much time and space a player has to react. Kucherov might be a player who can benefit from that extra adaptation, given his style too. So yeah, there are going to be aspects for which it can be argued that coming over to the CHL helps adapt to this "NA pro grind". (But of course, one can argue against in some ways too, and it's not my intention to argue either way, I don't really care, just pointing out what was probably intended).

Well, KHL's official site says that Kucherov has been released from contract with CSKA. So Quebec it is!

Well that opens up a spot for other talented CSKA kids- Barbashev, Gusev, maybe even Tolchinskiy towards the end of the season.

Somewhere in Quebec.

This. It's more physical, riding a bus is pretty brutal... It's the pack, travel, play style that he needs to adjust too.

Gusev is better than Kucherov and would be ahead anyway.

That's very arguable actually when you consider that Gusev is a year older and he is also smaller. Now that Kucherov is gone, there is that much less competition for a roster position, hence my point.

If Google translate isn't too bad, I understand he wasn't happy with how CSKA treated his shoulder injury? They told him he was ok and that he could play but when he came in NA, they told him he had to have surgery?

If this is accurate, it's a huge win for Tampa. Not only does it get Kucherov in a more ideal development environment, I think it'll help with getting Gusev to come over also.

On the contrary, history strongly suggests that it is a very inferior development environment - for Russians, that is. The track record of highly regarded Russian prospects who went to the CHL to develop is very weak, and much worse than those who stayed in Russia to develop. And if he ends up spending significant time in the AHL, he's statistically pretty much a 100% writeoff. No win for Tampa.

Sure, but to those who argue that, the problem is that there is no evidence whatsoever to support that playing major junior enhances the ability of european prospects to reach the NHL. On the contrary, since those who don't do this reach the NHL at a much higher rate and with much better results than those who do (and in the same talent bracket, as defined by draft position), the reasonable conclusion would be the exact opposite: The CHL generally doesn't prepare european teenagers better for the NHL, but rather detracts from their development.
