Insane season by Joshua Roy.
51 goals and 119 pts in 66 games and he hasn't turned 19 yet.
2nd in pts in the CHL only behind Wyatt Johnston who had 46 goals and 124 pts in 68 games.
2021 was primed to have a couple of late round gems due to covid and limited scouting.

It is a mystery why Roy was selected so low. He is like 6 weeks from being in this years draft. He was a former 1st overall Q selection.

He would be top 10 this year.

Would he really be a top 10 pick? Dumais scored 109 points in 68 games and is 2022 draft eligible and people say he is a 2nd/3rd young pick? Albeit Roy does have 3 inches on him.
Agreed that Roy is shaping up to be a steal though, hope he continues this upward trend.

I think he would be. The question should be....why did he drop so much? He was a first overall pick in the Q. It should be reasoned that if he was selected 1st overall in one of Canada's top leagues, he was considered a top prospect for his age at the time. Let's for arguments sake say he was a top 15 Canadian prospect (taking into account the O, W and any prospects who went NCAA route).

So at 15 he would have been around top 15 prospects for his age across Canada. But then, during covid, with very limited scouting and the world turned upside down, he dropped down to a 5th round NHL pick. I would suggest that his slide is more the anomaly than the dominant year he had this year. This is exactly what was expected of him, and there is no reason to think at this point, he won't be shooting way above the 5th round pick status. Roy (119 pts) is 5 months older than Shane Wright (94 pts) who was his 1st overall contemporary in the OHL and three months younger than Wyatt Johnson (124 pts) who led the O and was a 1st rounder in the NHL. The Q isn't that much of a weaker league than the O.

Not sure what the NHL scouts saw that dropped him to a 5th round pick, but every sign is pointing to this guy being an NHL regular and he looks at this point like an absolute steal.

I don’t know about top 10. Everyone knew he had a ton of offensive potential but other than putting any doubt in his offensive ability to rest, the rest of the concerns are still valid. He mostly fell due to a poor attitude and a lack of effort, especially on the defensive side.

Definitely a great boom/bust prospect, especially for where he was picked.

A simple google search would have told you why.
