I've always thought highly of Vrana, I think he's just overlooked as a prospect because of all the other good prospects in his draft class. He certainly has an NHL shot, and is pretty quick too. Reminds me a lot of Gaborik.

I'm a Hershey season ticket holder and have seen him play since last year's playoff run. The kid is a gamer. Even when he isn't putting up points he's creating chances and the puck never seems to leave his stick. He has that extra gear when it comes to his speed that surprises guys. He's know to be more of a playmaker (his passing and vision are both above average) but he has a very very good wrist shot. Hershey hasn't had a prospect this good in a long long time. IMO he would be top 5 in the league in scoring if it wasn't for his wrist injury early in the year.

Edit: He mainly plays LW for whichever poster was asking.

Hershey's highlights from tonight with Vrana's 2+1:

He seems to really fly under the radar for how well he's been doing in the AHL

Yeah not gonna lie I remember him on draft day and liking him but I had totally forgot about him. Nice to see him doing so well, coming from a Sharks fan! :yo:

Not for me. I always liked him and continue to do so. He is going to be get a lot more attention as the best prospect playing in the AHL once Rantanen and Nylander get called up. Where I do not see him being far back anyway from those 2 anyway.

Another good Washington pick? This is the team that worries me the most in the East for the next few years, as a Rangers fan, even though we've had their number so far in the playoffs. If they keep making good picks, and it seems that way with recent picks like Vrana and Samsonov, they could be one of the best teams in the NHL for the next ten years.

Jakub Vrana, 2 point 1+1 night in a 5-2 win over the 1st place Toronto Marlies tonight. Named 2nd star of the game.

Back on pace for 1.0 PPG. 19 in 19.

What are the odds he makes Washington next season at some point? I assume the chances are low he cracks the team out of camp simply due to the fact he's barely played this year.

Was at the game tonight. Really liked his game, boy is he ever quick.

I think this kid is going to surprise as one of the better players from an already what is looking like a great draft. He's close to Ehlers IMO in terms of ability. Washington did well picking him as high as they did. He plays with Bourque which does help him. But he's got too much going for him not to be a good one. Right there with Ehlers and Fabbri one day IMO.

If we don't re-sign Chimera then there's a spot for him on the 3rd line with Johansson and Wilson

If he has a good camp there's a decent chance. He'll be competing with guys like Galiev, Barber, etc.

I love how he plays, he was such an interesting player at the U18s a couple years ago when I first saw him play. He had size, a ton of speed, and a great shot. Didn't notice his playmaking skills, but he seems to be making plays in the AHL. Then he dropped to 13, I couldn't figure out why.

gun to head. style comparison would be?

Haha, don't shoot but I can't think of one off the top of my head.
-very quick, from 0 to blazing in no time and is very slippery
-very well positioned, knew where to go and where to be
-made things look very smooth and efficient

Quietly doing his business under the radar in the AHL. 2 goals 1 assist tonight to maintain his slightly over PPG average this year.

30 in 29 draft +2 year
5 in 3 draft + 1 year

The Caps got another highly skilled player here.

He was exceptional tonight. He was involved at both ends of the ice. even earned 2nd star tonight

The forgotten Cap. Think he will be better than Nura for the caps. Great prospect that can replace oshie when the time comes. The caps have dynamite drafting record since 04 and develop great talents. Even if they don't win this year they can be a serious cup contender for many years to come. Hawks had Panarin, Saad, TT, Shaw, Kruger as there young supporting core over the cup runs with schmaltz, Hartman still able to come in. Kuzy, Bura, Wilson, Vrana, will be a more valuable than those guys imo.

St-Louis ?

Fellow Hershey Bears season ticket holder. Jakub's been a gamer since day 1. Hard and accurate wrister, definitely NHL ready, the ability to take off from 0 to 100 in a snap, and while he's not power forward size, he's definitely fairly big. Dangling ability is unreal too. Another thing I noticed is the excitement level he's brought to the team. Him and the other youngsters like Madison Bowey and Christian Djoos (son of Pär Djoos) are always fired up. After one of his goals, Vrana had a dab celebration. Also, you might want to check out his shootout goal from a few games ago...

Thanks for the update. He was a relatively high pick in what is looking like a very good deep draft. I would not be surprised if he is among the top 10 of this draft in the not too distant future. Lots to like about Jakub.

What are the odds he makes Washington next season at some point? Is he going to replace burakovsky on the top 6 ?
