Komarov had an oustanding game defensively today. He blocked a 2 on 1 and a 3 on 1.

Quebec won 2-1 and leads the final 3-1.

He was pretty mad at himself for the goal against too. Still looks like he's laboring a little - his feet were never light but he has a little hitch/limp in his stride from watching him move after that injury a few games ago. Amazing to see him gutting it out.

Only caught a little of the Halifax-Quebec game tonight:

GA1, Nause is in front and doesn't tie up Vidicek:

GA2, VK gets caught up ice, split by Boucher who scores on the breakaway:

But he can't play for Rochester, can he?

Not yet - his team is off to the Memorial Cup (May 26tth until June 4th). He could ATO and be part of the Black Aces after that tournament and if the Amerks are hopefully still alive.

Would his ELC slide for next year or would it start the clock on it

He isn't eligible to start the season in the AHL - he's only 19, won't turn 20 until January 11th, and was drafted out of the CHL not an overseas junior league so he'd be similar to Savoie at this point.

KA seems quite aggressive getting recent draft picks signed. I wonder if this is in part due to blunders from prior GMs with both NCAA players and/or Hagel. Really no reason to sign him now vs next offseason, but we’re not near the contract limit so it shouldn’t matter.

Plenty imo. Rewarding a player who has developed nicely with a signing bonus, operating in good faith, enhancing his sense of professionalism going into an important off-season of development. Plus taking away any rights pressure point of having to get him signed next summer.

All valid points, but there’s also the inherent risk that he doesn’t continue to develop next year and we’re stuck with a contract for a guy who winds up in the ECHL (think Karabacek).

Isn’t that the risk of every player they draft and sign? Curious as to why this prospect in particular elicited that response from you…especially with the dearth of D prospects they have and what seems to be good growth and performance??

Just because we didn’t have to sign him yet - and he was a 5th round pick. He can’t play in Rochester next year so our org doesn’t gain anything by getting him under contract now vs next year. There are valid points to signing him now as @HOOats mentioned. I also didn’t say it was a bad thing, just noting that KA is aggressive signing these guys early. I’m not predicting anything bad with this player - but it’s becoming a trend with KA. It could backfire, it might not.

There is the Milstein aspect to this as well - their previous draftees who were clients of his had some bumps along the round with either the player or agent thinking the player deserved to be a level higher than they demonstrated. Perhaps this is a bit of an olive branch there? Just riffin' on other reasons why - HOO covers the upside pretty well.

It's good to know that the prospect pipeline flowing into Rochester is being addressed ahead of time. Helps the organization with their strategic planning to have this settled now.

And the Amerks fans should be happy there will continue to be prospects heading their way over the next few years.
