Didnt dorion sign tank though? Free asset right there.
Sure and they couldn't sign Pinto and were against the cap look tonight. 5 d, 2nd worst prospect pool in hockey. No forsite ever. Don't want this to turn into a PD debate. But a team that misses the playoffs for 7 straight years should not have a barren prospect pool. Especially a small market team that's not how to stay competive.

I hope they resign VT, he seems to have good chemistry with Pinto and Greig. A strong third line is something Ottawa has been missing for quite some time.

This happens to every team coming out of a rebuild. You go from the top to the bottom real fast as you graduate guys.

Actually the prospect rankings are pretty stupid in general since the best guys graduate off the list super fast so all the teams bounce around way too much.

Use the u23 player rankings instead.

If Tank went 2×4 or 3×3.5? I know it's not realistic.

Perhaps he might sign for $5M for 3 years.

I think we could afford that by running with 12 Fs, dumping Kubalik and keeping the 4th liners under $1M each. That would even leave cap room for signing Chychrun at $8M AAV if we also run with 6 Ds, have 2 RDs at about $1M each and a backup tender at under $1M.

Staios has stated multiple times that he wants to add a veteran forward to support this young group.

Trading Tank would be a mistake imo. You would be letting go of a vet top 6/9 guy that still has lots of hockey left who fits in well and has a Cup ring. He doesn't have the ego DeBrincat had and is gladly thriving in a 3rd line and 2nd PP role as a veteran sniper who knows how to play on both ends and almost always makes the good play.

If the cap rises and you can get him on a 2-3 year deal at the same cap hit, that would be great. He still skates well and shouldn't fall off a cliff anytime soon.

Tarasenko is going to get 4-5 million on 3+ year deal.
Looking at comparables for forwards, his age, his production etc. that’s where he lands.
I’d offer him 3x5 or 4x4 and see what happens.
He can play on any of the top lines if required (injuries etc), he already has great chemistry with Greig and Pinto.
Why F around here? He’s what will be looking for if we trade him.

I think he gets more than that on the open market this year with the cap rising. I think it would take 5m 5 Y at a minimum to keep him. Which in my opinion is worth it. If we need to buyout the final year, so be it. It would only cost around 1.3m per year with the cap likely around 100m

Pretty unimpressive return but hopefully this was his first choice(he deserves it after a great year for sens) and he leaves with a positive relationship with the org that might allow him to see Ottawa as an option again this summer.

Plus, it’s basically free assets as the team didn’t give up anything to sign him. Nothing to recoup-That’s a pretty novel concept for this team.

It's disappointing when you consider Montreal received 2 first round picks for a broken man in Monahan. I get that the NMC screwed over the return but nonetheless...this team needs quality not quantity. Mid round picks are mostly worthless.

The reality is we're going back to the Murray years where Staois and Andlauer want to build a brand that they will take care of players like Fisher to Nashville.

We had some good years under Murray. The year after he passed a team he built took us to Game 7 double OT against the Penguins who would go on to win the cup.
