I'm confused how someone who according to these reports posted has a mid rotation arm as a ceiling was a consensus top ten pick before TJ. Don't get me wrong I like the pick. Just seems odd to me

I completely agree. If he rediscovers what he was prior to the injury his ceiling should be a lot higher. But if he just has mid rotation upside then he probably shouldnt be a first round pick as he would remind me of TJ Zeuch.

Dont want to trade either but lets say they lose 5 of the 7 games to boston and tampa and oakland keep on winning which is very likely may as well capitalize on their good years. Who knows if they will be this good again. If the packages are not good then give them each a qo. Semein wont accept but i think ray will. Now if the jays win those series then this is all a moot point haha. Spend at the deadline!

This is entirely semantics. Anything above a "mid-rotation upside" writeup is extremely rare even for the best pitching prospects, because for a guy to become a "#1 or #2" guy at the MLB level it requires the development of complementary traits which you simply can't eyeball at the amateur level. Sure, you can take an educated estimate in terms of pitchability, command, poise, consistency, etc. based off of what the amateur is showing to date, but those qualities don't really cement one way or the other until you actually see the MLB package. And even then you can find lots of guys who all of a sudden uncovered these traits after several MLB seasons, like Robbie Ray. Guys who at no point in time were ever considered to have "frontline starter upside" - like Shane Bieber - become frontline starters.

Long story short: when a guy who has Top 10 ability carries a "mid-rotation upside" writeup, it's mostly just for safety purposes because no one can truly project an "ace" except for unicorn-type prospects like Verlander or Strasburg. TJ Zeuch does not belong in the "mid-rotation" category, and he's not even remotely comparable to Hoglund.

Pittsburgh takes Solometo with the first pick in day 2. Cherington having a fantastic draft. Has done a great job rebuilding the farm over the years.

They should have the best farm system in baseball after this draft.

Royals go HS again with Ben Kunrda. They could get a big name later in the draft.

Former top 10 prospect Jaden Hill goes to the Rockies. Good for them, they need arms.

Brewers take Russell Smith. They must need to save money because Smith has a 5th starter ceiling. 6’9” and he is usually in the upper 80s and low 90s.
