Far too soon to know. But it's good to have a tempered expectation. I think we're expecting way too much way too soon from most of our kids.

Way more examples of players that blossom at 22 or 23 than 19 or 20. Most of the NHL is filled with the former and only a handful of the latter. Until the players have their full man-strength we just don't know what they'll be.

That said, Kravtsov is a top 6 forward if he makes it. His vision and hockey sense is very good. His skating is good. And frankly he didn't strike me as irresponsible defensively in his time in HFD.

I watched him pretty closely towards the end of his HFD season and he was the most effective forward on the ice and also the youngest. He wasnt as impactful as Chytil was down there but as a winger he often has to rely a little bit more on other players to find him. But he was noticeable. I feel pretty confident he can be an NHL player. The question for him has always been about the right development path. Personally, I think the KHL might actually be the best place for him. Ideally, I would sign Buch to a 2 year extension and leave Kravtsov in the KHL for at least one more year but more likely 2.

The KHL is good for now because he might not have anywhere else to play but he shouldn't stay there any longer than he has to. He needs New York Ranger development and to get acclimatized to the N.A game.

Are we all heavily onboard the Kravtsov choo choo train? Anyone have any lingering doubts that this guy will ultimately be a top 6 ish type forward he was touted and drafted too be?

I'm still on board and think Kravtsov will be fine and won't pull a "Lias" on us, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not having some reservations bout whether or not he'll ever be a top 6 guy. I'm thinking he might end up being a 3rd line guy and 2nd PP type guy.

Maybe I'm being a bit cynical and slightly paranoid but I'm just being honest as the vibes I'm getting aren't as positive as they were last year at this time before camp started as there was alot of hype and excitement about him. Now...not so much.

I am generally in the "too soon to call" camp before the player hits the age of, let's say, 23. I think at 23 you have a good sense of what a player will be in his prime. There are always exceptions but that's my general rule. So I won't call a player before then, but I do pay attention to how they are trending in those development years after the draft. You want to see year-over-year progression. Doesn't have to be point production, it could be showing competence in a better league or higher up the lineup. We certainly haven't gotten that from Andersson and I don't think we've gotten that from Kravtsov either. All this to say, "it's too soon to call but they need to turn things around."

Russian players even later, i believe it's a lot to do with inferior training. I still believe Anderson will be a good player, it would be nice if he became that here.

I thought he played a very good first period. Engaged, throwing his weight around, asserting himself. I haven’t seen him take a shift the entire second period, though. Injury?

EDIT: There he is around the 13:40 mark out there

He was there. Trying to create high danger situations by getting to the net or sending puck there.

Traktor is dominating but very little puck luck. Kravtsov with a good shot early in the 3rd that barely didn't become a goal. Another excellent opportunity by Aberg. 8 min left in the 3rd.

And as I was about to post Auto scored to go ahead 2:1

"to" not "too". Sorry, but you've done it in like 5 posts in a row :P

On the topic, I've gotten to a point in my life where I try not to stress over stuff I can't control. He'll be what he'll be. I hope he ends up being a good player for us, and I think that he still can be. We'll see.

Nobody likes a word bird.

Kravtsov ended up with 5 SOG, second highest on the team only behind his center Byvaltsev with 6.

Alex Nunn posted a highlight video of Kravtsov's game. Great to see how impactful he seemed in those clips. He looked even better than he did in HFD at end of the season. Doing it all, hitting, forechecking, passing, shooting. If he keeps it up...

‪Very noticeable that his time in the AHL wasn’t wasted, especially when it came to engaging in one on one battles by the boards. ‬

Saw only one questionable decision where he tried to stickhandle to beat a defender one on one in the open ice when he had better options.

Really liked what I saw. That pass from behind the net was impressive. Could have picked up two assists in that clip. I think in general people's expectations are skewed by some of the 18 year old rookies coming into the league and producing immediately. Lot of people were super excited after his 2018-19 season with Traktor and when he came over and didn't make the team out of camp and then left Hartford the hype evaporated. I was anticipating him challenging for a spot next season particularly if Buchnevich is moved, but am also content with him playing out the year with Traktor and bringing him over immediately after. Let him marinate... he's become a bit of a forgotten man on these boards considering how much talent we have added to the pipeline, but is still an extremely important piece moving forward.

Strong along the walls, went to the paint, could have easily gone 1+2.

A lot about his game screams center though that will draw the ire of some.

Looked great. Played fast. Also looks like a center to me

No likes for either of you. : )

Being able to carry the puck and play boards on offense doesn’t make him a center. Defensive side in the own zone is what makes player a center.
