I mean in the first paragraph he's lamenting the lack of playoff appearances then later on flat out says this season isn't about the playoffs, but about developing kids. So I dunno.

I think the kids should get opportunities, but I don't think gifting a kid a spot is the right way to go about it. Especially when that likely means pushing Gauthier out of that 3rd RW slot and he's finally showing signs of being a quality player.

With Panarin coming back too and assuming Kravtsov will be taking a place in top-9, we could expect both Rooney and Gauthier on the 4th line (both playing on same line now). Not bad.

I'm sorry but there's so much stupid came out especially in the posts earlier in the day.

Did anyone complained about boring and uninspired Quinn's hockey in the second half of last season when two top lines were firing on all cylinders?

Now there's an opportunity to insert more skill into the line-up and folks rather not have it and already pre-emptively complain? Ridiculous.

It's certainly not a bad thing if it works out. That being said, I like the game Gauthier is bringing right now. He and Fil seem to play well off of each other. Once Panarin is back, I'd basically keep the lines as they are but bump Rooney down to the 4th line and put Panarin on that open LW.

Laf - Zib - Buch
Kreids - Strome - Kakko
Panarin - Chytil - Goat
Lemmy - Rooney/Howdy - Blackwell/PDG

If Kravtsov can force his way into that top-9, that signals to me that he's ready for the show. Otherwise I like the blend of skillsets on the top 3 lines too much to not give it a long look.

There are many options and I won’t criticize Quinn for choosing what he feels appropriate but I’d attach Panarin to Zibanejad’s hip until Zibanejad is out of his funk (or as much as possible)

Panarin - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Kreider - Strome - Kakko
Lafreniere - Chytil - Kravtsov (Gauthier)
PDG / Blackwell - Rooney - Gauthier (Howden)

Basically the same lines I'd want, assuming you meant Chytil on the 3rd line. Maybe swap Laf with Kreider

Benching Chytil?

I can see that line of thinking but honestly I'm more inclined to keep Lafreniere with Buch given the chemistry they've been building. I could move Zib off that line, but I'm more interested in giving Laf the right situation than I am trying to get Zib out of his funk.

I’d rather match Lafreniere against lesser opponents than he’s “forced” to face by virtue of being on Zibanejad - Buchnevich line.

Fair enough though I think he's been playing some of his best hockey as of late on that line.

Lafreniere is definitely playing better lately than earlier in the season and it’s par for the course when it comes to a prospect’s (teenager at that) adaptation to the best league.

And even from this perspective his adaptation might accelerate some more with 2-3 less minutes per game and weaker opposition.

Can't really argue against the possibility. Just a matter of preference really.

Imo for this whole Kravtsov thing to work they have to put him with 2 good players and leave him there. No benchings, no demotions, nothing....just put him with Strome and Kreider or Panarin and Chytil and leave him there.

Kreider-Strome-Kravtsov
Panarin-Zib-Buch

or

Panarin-Chytil-Kravtsov
Kreider-Zib-Buch

Either way, Laf and Kakko are relegated to 3rd line minutes. That's not to say that either of them deserve more minutes at this point, but does Kravtsov deserve more than either of them? Does he deserve more time than Gauthier? The idea that we have to coddle Kravtsov for fear of him running away again is silly. He has either matured or he hasn't. He needs to earn his ice time like everyone else, not be gifted a spot based on his draft status or the worry that he'll pout.

I think the expectations should be similar to what Gauthier has been doing production-wise. If he plays 23 games, I would consider him getting 10 points a big success with this dump-and-chase, zero-creativity style of hockey we play this season.

If only we would actually dump and chase... we just dump. If we do get to the puck, it's a quick board battle with no support while the other two forwards are exactly where the puck wont be.

Like it takes serious skill to never have people in the correct position when coming out of a board battle with the puck (as rare as that happens).

so sad and true.

Puck support, overall, is so bad that it almost looks like active sabotage/tanking.

Yeah, maybe we are playing dump-and-change

This sums it up perfectly.

He will be the opposite of Kakko & Laf. He’s the kind of player with all the flash that people crave and expected out of Kakko & Laf out of the gate. He will show more high end skill than either of them and will be the best player on the team, quote me on it! I am open to any bets as well!!!! KRAVTSOV FOR CALDER

Kravtsov will take us to the promise land, and will never break 100 BPS on the way there. Legend.
