Should be fine at that time. Honestly, it will be a little busy, but the bars don't get packed wall to wall like big cities.

The wife and I went to Burger Moe's before the game last night and would recommend it. It's right next door to Tom Reid's. Had the Axtell Burger (sharp cheddar with apple smoked bacon) and a few Surly's on tap.

I can tell you that an hour before and after it can get a little nuts. But it honestly depends on what is going on (e.g. college ID night, weekend, etc).

For just a plain Lucy I go -- Nook, Blue Door, 5/8s, Matt's.

If you are looking for something a bit more, Blue Door has the best options I think. The one with the egg and Irish rasher bacon is bloody marvelous.

I preferred the Blucy Lucy at the Blue Door. They use swiss cheese and it doesn't run out of the burger upon first bite like the regular Jucy Lucy.

Hey all, I'm going to read some of this thread to get some opinions. But, figured I'd post up as well.

I'm taking my mother on a cross country trip to Minneapolis the weekend of December 14th to see the Eagles play the Vikings on Sunday. We'll be arriving at MSP Airport around 2:00 PM on Saturday. So, we'll have the entirety of Saturday to check out the sights in the city.

Neither of us have ever been to Minnesota. So, it should be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the Wild are on the road that weekend or we'd definitely try to catch a hockey game (she's the reason I'm such a diehard hockey fan, as well).

Anyway, what's the best course of action for two tourists from New England coming to the city for ONE NIGHT ONLY. Obviously, checking out the Mall of America should be one of the attractions. But, what else does someone who has never been to the Twin Cities need to see when they're only there for one night?

Any help would be much appreciated. We love food and drink and good conversation. So, any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks and good luck this season from a Flyers fan!

Question:

I am staying downtown at the Foshay on Saturday and Sunday. I am coming to watch my #($*$% Lions play the Vikings. I would like to cancel out and go skiing as I am really bitter right now.. but I pre-purchased the hotel room at a steep discount rate already and cannot be refuned if cancelled.

I would like to catch the UFC 168 Weidman vs Silva fight at a local pub or bar on Saturday night. Can anyone recommend any places near the Foshay which may be showing it?

Huberts inside the Target Center will have it on as well. That is like a 4-5 block walk. Plus you're right off 1st Ave to bar hop later if you're into it.

Iowa Visit

I'm gonna head down Interstate Zucker in a couple of weeks to grab a game. I was hoping anyone could share some worthwile locations for a beer and a bite to eat.

Where are you staying? If St. Paul then a lot of the staples have been mentioned.

Burger Moe's
Nook
Tom Reid's is cool for nostalgic hockey drinking fun times
Cosettas
Kincaids is a delicious dinner place if you are willing to drop some cash.

I have a couple of questions:

What's the best time to get to downtown St. Paul so I actually have time to find a spot to park and grab a bite before a game? (I'm going to the April 8 Tuesday night game v. Boston)

Total shot in the dark: is there any place to find out about morning skate visits/autograph stuff with the teams earlier in the day?

I usually get there around 5:45 if I'm trying to get a beer and a poutine at Tom Reid's, though it can be tough to get a table that close to puck drop so that's usually cutting it a little bit close. If you're going to try somewhere busier like Cossetta's then it might be smart to get there more like 5:00-5:15.

Highly recommend parking at the Science Museum. $12 instead of the $15 that RiverCentre charges and you can still use the RiverCentre skyway to the arena pretty easily. Easier to get in and out, too. There are some other options around but those two are nice because they're super accessible from the arena and because you can get to them just off Shepard Road (right off I-35E and MN-5) instead of having to deal with the cluster**** of I-94, Kellogg, and/or West 7th.

I don't know about morning skates or autographs but I know the visiting teams always stay at The St. Paul Hotel just across the street from the arena, and lots of people have run into players in that general area and at some of the nearby bars/restaurants.

My advice to get to downtown around 5:15 or so and to look for a lot to park in someone down W 7th. I would first look in the lot behind Burger Moe's, if that's full, try the Dairy Queen lot a further south. Most of these lots charge $10 and it's easier to get out of those lots after the game than it is to exit the parking ramp by the science museum.

Tom Reid's might be tough to get into, but I actually prefer Burger Moe's. Usually not a problem to get a table, and they have a good beer selection as well.

Can't answer your question about morning skates and the like.

To your Burger Moe's suggestion. If you park in their lot you pay the $15 parking fee, however, if you bring that slip in, they take $15 off your tab. So you're essentially parking for free.

I always do the RiverCentre, the one time we've been forced to park in the Science Center it was brutal getting in and out and my buddy who has had tickets since the Wild's inception REFUSES to park there unless he/we have to.

You just must have better luck perhaps?

I'll be at the Boston game too, should be good craic. I know visiting teams stay at the St. Paul Crowne Plaza hotel, but not sure how you get autographs from them, but that's what some have done in the past I'm told.

I usually do the Smith ramp (the relatively new one across from the parking lot out front). It's only 10 bucks which is a bit cheaper and the walk is only a block or so.

The RiverCentre is nice when the weather is nasty because you can take the stairs to the skyway and not walk outside at all. Burger Moe's is a good spot to park if you're going to be drinking over on West 7th, and the deal that Timothy mentioned is awesome.

I usually avoid the Science Museum lot.
