Im thinking of coming down from toronto and staying for about 10 days.
How much would a car rental cost?
Im thinking about the outdoor game. Then a game in san jose. Then on the weekend the pens come into town.
Any tips on where i should stay for a fair price?
The rental cost will vary depending on the size of the car and where it is rented from. You can usually get an economy car for around $20 a day at Enterprise but there is a surcharge if you are under 25 years old. That is something that is easily searchable on the web. You might also try looking at some of the travel sites to see if they have package deals. You can often save an extra $50-$100 by booking air, car and hotel with one spot.
Downtown will probably cost you the most on average but you may be able to find a good deal. If you are looking to spend as little money as possible, it is probably going to be cheapest on the outerlying suburbs. If you do some searching and come up with some places that are in your price range, we can give you an idea of what the area is like. In general, stay away from the area south of Downtown LA between the 91 Freeway to the south, 710 to the east, 405 to the west and the 10 freeway to the north.
I'm planning a Cali trip in January to see the Bruins play Anaheim and then LA. We're planning on staying in Anaheim for two nights (Disney and all that) and LA for three nights. I have the Anaheim part of the trip down pretty well, but have a few questions about LA...
- Where's the best place to stay if you want to see the most things? My wife is interested in Hollywood, and I'd like to be able to see things in the city as well.
- What's the temperature normally like in the beginning of January?
- What are some things you'd recommend for us to do? It's just the two of us. No kids, etc. Looking for the "must see" tourist-y kind of things.
Thanks!
I always try to steer people away from Hollywood. Most people I've taken there are less than impressed. If you want to check some stuff out there, great. I wouldn't stay there though. I think you'll find that you'd rather just stay in the car and drive by stuff. I guess it depends what you want to see there. Downtown LA is central to almost everything to see in the LA area. There isn't a whole lot to see in Downtown LA though. I guess you should decide what you really want to see. There a ton of suggestions in this thread already . I'd suggest reading through it and if you find certain things that appeal to you, that would probably give us a better idea about telling you where to stay. Some ideas that are common: Getty Center, Universal Studios, Beaches (LA and OC), Aquarium of the Pacific, Catalina Island, Griffith Observatory, Hike to the Hollywood sign, California Science Center (Space Shuttle), etc. That is what I could think of off the top of my head.
Here is a huge list of stuff from trip advisor.
Maybe name a few things that interest you and we can give you feedback on whether or not they are worthwhile. We might have snow in the mountains then and you could even probably ski/snowboard or just check it out but you might be trying to avoid that sort of thing. The beaches wont' be very busy then since it will be cold but Venice is a freak show worth checking out. Santa Monica has the beach and the promenade. The South Bay beaches (Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo) all have lively piers for barhopping and eating. Maybe rent a bike and ride the strand? Long Beach has a crappy beach but there is the Aquarium, Queen Mary and the Pike/Downtown/Rainbow Harbor.
Weather in early January will probably be in the high 40's at the very lowest and in the high 60's to low 70's at the highest. You never really know but it doesn't get much colder than the high 40's.
