Visiting LA? Where to go? What to do? Ask here

Hi! I'm visiting LA early october, and I'm looking to get tickets to the Kings - Rags game, how hard is it to get tickets to Kings games? What's the average price? Are the games usually sold out?
Thanks for your help

Depending on the game, it can be really ready our difficult.

I would check stubhub. Yes the Kings do sell out

Hey, so thinking of doing a hockey tour in November, checking out all the Cali teams. I'm a huge fan of So.Cal, spend a couple weeks in Newport every spring. Just wondering what the tempature is like in early November. (Any chance of a beach day here and there)?

It's still pretty warm in early November thanks to the Indian summers we get. It doesn't start to get brisk (by California standards anyways) until late November.

I like to tell people SoCal doesn't have 4 seasons, we have 1.5 to 2 seasons. Summer and Rain.

I see, thanks. Checked out Stubhub, tickets ranged from $111 for nosebleeds to ~$250 for decent seats. Is that the kind of price range I should expect or does it seem a bit steep?

That seems a bit steep for nosebleeds. For glass seats or 100 level seats, the price isn't too bad. The prices are probably this high since the Kings are playing a higher profile team like the Rangers.

Im thinking of coming down from toronto and staying for about 10 days.
How much would a car rental cost?
Im thinking about the outdoor game. Then a game in san jose. Then on the weekend the pens come into town.
Any tips on where i should stay for a fair price?

I'm planning a Cali trip in January to see the Bruins play Anaheim and then LA. We're planning on staying in Anaheim for two nights (Disney and all that) and LA for three nights. I have the Anaheim part of the trip down pretty well, but have a few questions about LA...

- Where's the best place to stay if you want to see the most things? My wife is interested in Hollywood, and I'd like to be able to see things in the city as well.
- What's the temperature normally like in the beginning of January?
- What are some things you'd recommend for us to do? It's just the two of us. No kids, etc. Looking for the "must see" tourist-y kind of things.

Thanks!

The rental cost will vary depending on the size of the car and where it is rented from. You can usually get an economy car for around $20 a day at Enterprise but there is a surcharge if you are under 25 years old. That is something that is easily searchable on the web. You might also try looking at some of the travel sites to see if they have package deals. You can often save an extra $50-$100 by booking air, car and hotel with one spot.

Downtown will probably cost you the most on average but you may be able to find a good deal. If you are looking to spend as little money as possible, it is probably going to be cheapest on the outerlying suburbs. If you do some searching and come up with some places that are in your price range, we can give you an idea of what the area is like. In general, stay away from the area south of Downtown LA between the 91 Freeway to the south, 710 to the east, 405 to the west and the 10 freeway to the north.

I always try to steer people away from Hollywood. Most people I've taken there are less than impressed. If you want to check some stuff out there, great. I wouldn't stay there though. I think you'll find that you'd rather just stay in the car and drive by stuff. I guess it depends what you want to see there. Downtown LA is central to almost everything to see in the LA area. There isn't a whole lot to see in Downtown LA though. I guess you should decide what you really want to see. There a ton of suggestions in this thread already . I'd suggest reading through it and if you find certain things that appeal to you, that would probably give us a better idea about telling you where to stay. Some ideas that are common: Getty Center, Universal Studios, Beaches (LA and OC), Aquarium of the Pacific, Catalina Island, Griffith Observatory, Hike to the Hollywood sign, California Science Center (Space Shuttle), etc. That is what I could think of off the top of my head.

Here is a huge list of stuff from trip advisor.

Maybe name a few things that interest you and we can give you feedback on whether or not they are worthwhile. We might have snow in the mountains then and you could even probably ski/snowboard or just check it out but you might be trying to avoid that sort of thing. The beaches wont' be very busy then since it will be cold but Venice is a freak show worth checking out. Santa Monica has the beach and the promenade. The South Bay beaches (Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo) all have lively piers for barhopping and eating. Maybe rent a bike and ride the strand? Long Beach has a crappy beach but there is the Aquarium, Queen Mary and the Pike/Downtown/Rainbow Harbor.

Weather in early January will probably be in the high 40's at the very lowest and in the high 60's to low 70's at the highest. You never really know but it doesn't get much colder than the high 40's.

I would like to find a nice condo somewhere i can drive to.
Prob 10 days.
Any tips

I've used both sites. I found a one bedroom condo in Waikiki for cheaper than a 2 star hotel. I'm sure you can find something on there.

EDIT: I was curious so I looked in my area. This place is $700 a week which is much better than a hotel:

I'm sure you can find something similar in other areas too.

Orange County has the better beaches. Huntington and Newport specifically

That is the east side of Long Beach in a neighborhood called Belmont Shore. You are about 2 miles from Seal Beach (North OC), and about 10 miles from Bolsa Chica/Huntington Beach (OC) to the south. Staples Center is about 25 miles from there and takes about 30 mins by car without traffic and about 1-1.5 hours with traffic or by train and bus. You are about 20 minutes (no traffic) from Disneyland/Honda Center.

You are about 10-15 miles south of Hermosa/Redondo/Manhattan Beachs which are great beaches too. 25-30 miles South of Santa Monica. 30-35 miles south of Hollywood.

That is a nice area and will be suruban style living near the Beach. You are about 3 blocks from 2nd Street in Belmont Shore which has tons of night life and good restaurants. The beach in Long Beach sucks for hanging out though. That is why I mentioned your proximity to other beaches. Long Beach and Belmont shore is good for paddleboarding, kitesurfing and kayaking. There is a big path there that goes from Belmont Shore to Downtown Long Beach (where the Queen Mary, Aquarium and lots of other night life are) where you can ride cruisers or do some running if you like to exercise. There are no waves in Long Beach so it sucks for surfing.

I just looked up my area because I was curious what was around and for how much. That is a sweet deal in my opinion. You aren't exaclty close to Staples but you are a short drive from everything and with walking distance of a lot of things to do in Long Beach. There is also a bus system in Long Beach that you could take around if you wanted to do drinking and save some money on cabbing it everywhere. You could also get to and from Staples via Train/Bus if you stayed there.

EDIT: The drive between Long Beach and Laguna Beach (Huntington/Newport/Sunset/Seal Beaches in between) is an awesome drive. So is the drive up the cost from Santa Monica past Malibu on PCH (highway 1). Definitely add that to your list of things to do.

Hey guys, I'm just looking for as much information as possible here and excuse my ignorance. I'm staying in Anaheim this September for a few days with the family and I'm hoping to catch the Kings/Ducks game on Sept 17th. I know it's preseason but should I be buying tickets before hand, there's probably only 3 of us going? And if so, because I've never been to an NHL game before, can I purchase them online and just pick them up at the Honda Center? I know Honda Center isn't far from where I'm staying in Disneyland so I imagine taking a cab is probably the easiest way to get there...? Where abouts might the best seats be? I'm not too concerned about price. I'm going to post this over on the ducks board too so wish me luck! Thanks again!

It depends on what you are willing to spend. There will be tickets. Kings fans are saving money for Vegas and Ducks fans will be selling theirs. I would look into the 300s for the VIP seats or 400s A-F (ABC are nice) Try to avoid 400 high seats. Once you get up there you feel further away than you really are.
And a cab will be easy to get. Also check with your hotel. Some offer shuttles to Dland and games

Hey there, i'm looking for advice on how i would be able to get tickets for the kings home game against phoenix on the 2nd of april, it's the penultimate home game of the regular season so i was thinking would this make tickets harder to come by? and also what the best way of obtaining a ticket was. I'm arriving from the UK late on the 31st so is there any way of booking a ticket whilst still in the UK and being able to collect it at the rink, or a getting printable e-ticket, if not, what would you recommend i do, i'd be coming as a group of between 2 and 4 people, Many thanks in advance for any help

Preseason tickets shouldn't be hard to come by. You'll probably find tickets cheaper on StubHub, Barrys Tickets or other secondary markets than you would from ticketmaster (where the Kings distribute their tickets). A lot of people dump off preseason games for fairly cheap at both Staples and Honda Center. If you buy off Stub Hub, Ebay or a scalper, look for "electronic delivery" tickets as that will save you money and you can print at your convenience. Stub Hub charges a flat $5 fee for electronic delivery. Actual tickets will cost you ~$15 to have shipped or held at will call. You should be able to find lower level (100-200 or club level) for <$50.

Catch a cab or like the other guy said, there is a chance your hotel may offer you a free shuttle there.

First off, i had to look up penultimate. I was wondering what language you were speaking at first. You must be educated using a word like that. Don't use that in America or people will give you some smart ass comment back in a horrible British accent. :)

See the ticketing advice above. It is hard to say what prices of tickets will be like on the secondary market but once tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster (the official distributor of tickets for the Kings), check Stub Hub, Ebay, Barrys Tickets etc., and compare prices. If prices are higher than Ticketmaster, obviously buy through ticketmaster. If the prices are lower than ticketmaster, it is up to you if you want to role the dice on the prices lowering.

Tickets usually go on sale in either late August or early September but people (season ticket holders/ticket brokers) will list stuff on Stub Hub as soon as the schedule is released.

http://www.stubhub.com/los-angeles-...-los-angeles-staples-center-2-4-2014-4323536/

If you were to buy something on stub hub, look for electronic delivery in order to have a ticket emailed to you. Nothing will be sent until the tickets become available to the seller (usually late august/early september) i'm not sure what Stub Hub's policy is on mailing outside the country to I'd refer to their website to see if that is even feasible. Same with ebay, and other secondary markets. Ticketmaster offers electronic delivery should you buy from them once they go on sale.
