Visiting LA? Where to go? What to do? Ask here

Hi. I'm thinking of visiting L.A. in the future. How do I get from the L.A.X. airport to Staples Center. Is there a skytrain or metro that takes you from the airport to Staples Center? If not, what buses do you take from the airport to Staples? And how far is L.A.X. from the Staples Center and which hotel would you recommend me staying at?
You'll need a car in LA. There is not a sky train here.
There is limited rail and the busses suck.
If money is not an object, there is a beautiful Marriot at LA Live.

Is there any other way to get from the airport to Staples Center without driving other than taking a taxi. And how long is the ride from the airport to Staples Center?

20 miles

I checked google maps and and it would be 4 trains for that trip and it would take an hour an 20 minutes.

Like I said, you'll need a car. Especially if you plan on doing anything else other than going to a game.

You want the Flyaway bus (I'm pretty sure it was posted by me earlier in this thread along with a lot of other useful transit info)...

http://www.lawa.org/welcome_lax.aspx?id=4696

you pick it up outside of the baggage claims. There will be a green sign over the island where it picks up at. You'll want the one going to Union Station. From there, take the red or purple line train 3 stops (west, you can only go one direction from there) to 7th Street/Metro Center. The Fly Away cost me $5 one way last time I took it. It is relatively quick as it takes the Carpool lane. Much quicker than any other bus or train and much cheaper than a cab.

The red/purple line cost $1.50 each ride and you buy tickets before you enter. When you get to Union Station you'll go underground to get on it. Just ask somebody and they'll tell you where to go.

If you want to ride a train and see the worst parts of LA, from the same island at LAX, get on the free shuttle to the Green Line station. Take the Green line east to the blue line. Take the blue line north and it will end at 7th Street/Metro Center. $1.50 one way ticket on each train so it will be cheaper that way.

Have fun and let me know if you need any other tips. But definitely scour the thread because I've posted transit info on here ad naseum.

EDIT: Looks like the Flyaway is $7 one way now. Also, the Fly Away buses are the nice charter style buses and the thing rides on the freeway and what not so you don't have pleasure of going through awful neighborhoods and meeting some unsavory characters.

Hi guys. Visiting LA with my girlfriend September 7th-20th. We'll be staying in El Segundo and noticed that the Kings' practice facility is right next to our hotel, so we're wondering if anyone knows if they will be having any open practice during our stay?

All of the Kings practices are open to the public

Hey everyone, I just found out that I'll be going to California in early/mid march, probably from March 8/9 to March 16/17. I just looked and saw that on Monday, March 11, the kings are playing the Avalanche.

Just wondering when does anyone think single game tickets will go on sale? Would it be easy to get tickets for this game? How much are tickets usually? A general range would be awesome.

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks guys and congrats on the cup!

Hey Kings Fans

I have a pretty good understanding of a good chunk of SoCal but there is one area at this time I am not so sure about and I need some help here. I know some people who are looking to move to Temecula or a city or town near by. I know the city is around an hour drive from LA and San Diego which is ideal for them in their eyes and has a few wineries.

Is this a city worth moving to? Is it safe? I ask because this city is located in the Inland Empire and there are only a few spots in that area that are safe to be in from what I have noticed.

Thanks in advance.

It's probably the most cultured city in the IE. There are a lot of wineries and a big casino. From what I have heard, it's a very safe city.

Does anyone know where visiting teams practice and are acquiring autographs possible?

I will be in Anaheim this weekend, staying near Disneyland. Was wondering if there was any easy to follow public transportation methods to get from that area to Dodger stadium (and back) to catch the game on Sunday afternoon?

The Toyota training center in El Segundo on Nash street

The Zkings sign autographs, I don't know how visiting teams roll.

Take the Metrolink from the parking lot in Anaheim Stadium to Union Station. Take the Dodger Stadium Express shuttle from Union to Dodger Stadium.

metrolinktrains.com

I've wrote quite a bit about metrolink in this thread so just search for it for greater detail or ask specifics if you can't find what you are looking for. If you are going to a night time game, just make sure there is a return train late enough for you coming back to OC (if you are).

Hey guys, I'll be in LA in early January.

I noticed the Kings are playing home around the time I'll be there.

Now I don't know if there will be hockey or if the schedule will be changed, but if I want to catch, let's say the game against PHX, should I buy tickets in advance or there will be plenty of resellers willing to part with them at a cheap price?

Also, how much should I expect to pay for bad tickets (upper bowl) and how much for the lower level? Since we can't buy tickets online I can't find prices...

Thanks!

I'm not visiting, I just moved here. I started seriously following the Kings in the middle of the 2010-2011 season, when it looked like my career would bring me here shortly (although I've had one of the old purple/white crown jerseys for at least 7 years). I guess I came in at the right time.

Does anyone know of any good bars for watching hockey on the west side/mid-city? Maybe I'm being too optimistic - I had to go to three different places to find Molson Candian today - but I figure in an area as dense as that, there have to be SOME places where Kings fans congregate.

Thanks, and go Kings!

I think you mean Indio... I've never heard of indigo. Indio is in the middle of the desert and abou 15 or 20 miles east of Palm Springs. It is primarily a resort/retirement area and will probably be pretty hot even this time of year. I'd guess high 80's or low 90's but it gets 100+ in the summer regularly. There are a lot of casinos and golf courses out there. There is a cable car that goes to the top of Mt San Gorgonio which might be a decent touristy thing to do out there. I think there are some hiking trails at the top of the mountain. It is interesting to see the difference in climate and ecosystem as you climb in altitude. There is prob still snow on the mountain from the last storm too.

BC is over 1000 miles away. That's a long drive... 2 or 3 days I'm guessing.
