Soup and Engvall shouldn't even be in the lineup together. Simmonds was prob done 2 years ago
I was not saying Kadri had to be traded. I understood why management would consider moving him, but I always felt I'd rather have the guy that I need to reel in emotionally vs the guy I need to poke with a stick to make sure they have a pulse.
The bottom line is Kadri had value, and that value has now seemingly turned into the exact same as if Kadri was placed on waivers. That's not good.
For me that's not even the real problem. Trades become a wash all the time. It sucks, but it happens.
The problem for me is it's another in a long list of the things Dubas and company has been too slow to act on
1. Nylander should have been signed the summer before Tavares (Lou)
2. Gambled on both Matthews and Marner and waited to sign them (Matthews should have been signed the summer he was eligible for extension - an "overpayment" that summer would have been less than what he got and consequently lowered the price for Marner.)
3. Waited to long to get a capable back up goalie in 2019 and lost a potential advantage to Boston in the playoffs.
4. Waited too long to trade Kadri and got poor value.
5. Waited too long to trade Kapanen and Johnsson, and instead lost a 1st round pick to offload Marleau, only to trade Kapanen and Johnsson later - somewhat redeemed by getting good value for Kapanen.
6. Waited too long to fire Babcock.
Unfortunately it looks like Shanahan and company are going to follow this trend by not getting rid of Marner and allowing Dubas go into this season with no significant changes (this could change by the fall.) The orgs inability to be proactive is likely going to result in another wasted season and the firing of Shanahan/Dubas/Keefe.
They'll also likely lose Rielly for nothing rather than trading him now for some value. Or jsut end up overpaying him.
Anyways, I hope Kerfoot is the one who is taken. His salary can be better spent elsewhere. He mucks it up a bit more than many of the other forwards but unfortunately almost always ends up on his ass.
Kerfoot definitely has advantages over McCann. His salary is less than his cap hit, and he's signed for a year longer than McCann. He's also a better playoff performer, and Seattle's head coach trusts him defensively and on the PK. McCann is probably more useful to the Leafs though
His regular season production the last two seasons has also essentially been even strength or short handed too. And overall his other underlying numbers are usually pretty strong.
The Seattle front office has its own stats department, I also won't be surprised to see them simply want to select Kerfoot outright as their preferred asset. They could see him as having a lot of untapped potential if given a more consistent role in the top six

Minor trades can become a wash and nobody will get concerned. A piece like Kadri should have returned something decent. Instead it resulted in nothing, which is brutal in a cap world.
I agree on Kerfoot. I never liked him, and think the money is better spent elsewhere... in theory.
The video is what it is, all the picks will be revealed tomorrow anyways so it will soon be a moot point.
Really, all three Leaf players make sense for different reasons, I'd say the chances of Dermott being taken have to be by far the longest odds though of course.
No one should be surprised if Kerfoot is taken. He is a multi-purpose forward that would be ideal for a new franchise and they aren't under any Cap constraints until they burn through $81M.

That makes me think this is 100% real. They don’t want to get pulled into this potential shiat storm when tomorrow the clip we’ve all seen is shown. Not even commenting on it with the size of the Toronto market is suspicious.

Not to mention the expansion draft is tomorrow .. If anything, maybe they'll send some reports out later in the day confirming the rumour when it's closer to the time.
Do people actually know? Pretty sure the majority of people kind of expected McCann to be selected. They still don't know. But again the point isn't that this is huge, it's still news... and it's not being analyzed or even talked about in the Toronto market. I tried to find LeBrun or Johnston or Dreger or Friedman to mention something but they haven't yet.
