Hah, I have a 7700K machine with a four-year old liquid cooler than I don't really trust anymore either. I picked up a beQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 to install in its place. I'm going to try to get around to that this weekend.
Went ahead and rebuilt the old workhorse this evening, cleaning it of dust, re-seating everything, replacing a fan with clogged bearings with a new silent beQuiet 140mm fan and replacing an aging 120MM AIO liquid cooler with a beastly Dark Rock Pro 4 air cooler. Should be good for years more.

Having never played the original I am very much looking forward to playing the KOTOR remake.

Currently playing Resident Evil Village. Hoping it picks up a bit in the next few bits. So far it’s been kinda meh.

What’re you playing it on? Wondering how it looks on PS5 vs PC

Picked up Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous off of steam. Basically a sequel to the previous game based on the revamped 3.5 D&D rpg rule set by Pathfinder that I played for several years P&P and also played a bit of that Wrath of the Righteous adventure path.

If you love hard core character class building this game is for you. Not just core classes and prestige classes ala 3.5 but also the Pathfinder unique core class variations (For the min/maxers the core class alts tend to come up a bit short than rolling with the core class). Kinda like what Baldurs Gate 3 wishes it was but is still a shadow.

Did anyone play Returnel? It looks really cool but if it’s too hard I don’t want to bother. Is it comparable to Bloodborne difficulty wise?

I'd say it's hard, but it has a very natural difficulty curve. For example, the first level may seem quite hard at first, but then you'll get better each run and you'll get upgrades which will make it easier each subsequent time you play it. Everything kind of just clicked for me after a while.

I'd say it's a bit easier than Bloodborne but I also feel like I'm better at shooters than I am at the Souls games. Maybe @tenken00 can also chime in on the difficulty. The only thing is you will likely need to block off a few hours of time to do a full run, otherwise you will have to pause and put it in rest mode to resume later because there is no saving and loading (aside from one "save point" you reach at the halfway mark of the game). The developer hinted that they were going to add some sort of save feature, but as of now I don't think they have added it yet.

I recommend Returnal wholeheartedly. The gameplay and controls are top-notch, it has an interesting story, and the graphics are fantastic. So far it's been my favorite PS5 game. I waited for it to be on sale for $50.00 because I had the same initial concerns you had. However, knowing what I know now I would have paid the full $70.00 for it.

If you like shooters, definitely get Returnal. It's beautiful. There is absolutely zero load times. It's made with the DualSense in mind. Story is kind of trippy.

As for comparisons to Dark Souls/Bloodborne/Sekiro, it's really different so it's hard to say. While all of them are third-person games, the Soulsborne games are methodical mostly melee action while Returnal is a bit more faster paced and the fact it's also a shooter.

I think they were on par in difficulty, and on par in adrenaline rush. Returnal is also the same in that starting the game is always the hardest part of the difficulty curve. As you play more, you just naturally get better and know what to do. It takes dying, but everyone dies in this game. It's all part of learning so dying is great. And certain stuff does actually carry over.

There are several things you should know in Returnal first - there are 6 biomes (areas) and a checkpoint at biome 4 (midway point). Once you beat a boss you have a shortcut access that you can use from spawn to that biome. And learn to "dash" into bullets. That invincibility timer with dash is your bestest friend. Once you get comfortable in knowing what each weapon does and what each of the features do, you can breeze right through it.

I think by the end I would get a Hollowseeker gun with portal beams and serrated bullets and just stand in a corner while spamming fire to clear out a whole room in 15 seconds without moving. Easy-peasy lol.

It sounds awesome, I think I'll check it out.

I loved Bloodborne for its gameplay and environment, but to lose everything every time you died was not so fun. And every time you get over that hump and start to figure it out there's a new and even harder boss right around the corner. Eventually you gotta call it quits and start winning at something else.

Thank you both for your thoughtful responses.

Oh yeah, another big thing to know is that you can build up your max health. You will find two different types of green colored health:
  • Siphilum (small, normal, large) which refills the health you lost.
  • Integrity (small, normal, large) which fills up one (or two for larger ones) integrity slots. Soon as you get 3 slots filled, your max health (integrity) grows.
If you have no need for Siphilum (because you are at full health), then ALL health items will be integrity, which is a good way to keep growing your max health.

You will find purple colored health which is exactly the same as green, but those are cursed. Feel free to pick those up if you feel up to it or if you feel as if your guy is pretty powerfully stacked. There is a lot of risk/reward systems built into the game. You can take a gamble and really make yourself powerful or it can backfire and cripple you lol.

I still have to get around to both the Divinity Original Sins 1 and 2 games. Do they follow the D&D ruleset faithfully like the Baldurs Gate series did? I have no idea.

I beat Resident Evil Village last night and I'd rate it as a solid game, though there were parts that dragged a bit (looking at you, Factory). Kind of a mix between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7, but didn't reach the highs of either game IMO. Still a good entry to the series.

Going to hop into Mercenaries mode tonight.

I liked the ending. Made me feel things that no other RE game did lol.

I'm currently playing Deathloop. It's a really fun game. But the combat is wayyyy too easy. But I understand that, since it's supposed to be more of a puzzle game - how to kill 8 targets in one day (sectioned off into 4 districts and 4 sections of the day). The main character is goofy as hell though. lol Pretty good writing and story.

I enjoyed the shit out of those two games. Loved them. Wife and I played both couch co-op (if anyone knows good cco adventure games let me know).

Don't know how close to D&D rules they stuck but the games were so good I wouldn't worry about it.

It Takes Two!! Couch co-op or online co-op that could be a strong contender for game of the year this year! Also about a husband and wife lol.

Yeah I’ve added this to my list as well. This one kind of snuck up on me and then it came out with great reviews.

I'm interested in Deathloop but I'm hesitant to pay $60 for it when I assume it will come to GamePass eventually.

I wonder how long the PlayStation exclusivity agreement is...
