Did you finish the main story yet?

No I’ve been taking my time completing all of the side quests. I’m at about 75% completion overall, and
I am about to do the Demeter main quest
. I don’t imagine I have too much more left.

You have a good amount on the main story left... probably another 8-10 hours. Have you collected
Aether and Poseidon
yet? There are also a number of side quests that aren't achievable until you progress in the story and in particular finish a main mission called
The Wings of the Ten
, and I don't think you've made it all the way west yet. You also haven't made it to
THEBES
yet... let me know when you do, would be interested in hearing your thoughts on how the story line there plays out.

I think I've finished all side quests. I finished the main story and am at > 80% completion overall and achieved all but four trophies or so. I might be done... I don't have a strong desire to do the Hunting Grounds or Gauntlet Races which is pretty much all that I have left. I don't need 100% completion and don't feel the need to grind to upgrade all of my gear or anything like that. Now just to wait for the DLC or New Game+...

Edit: the format of these spoiler tags is terrible.

yes I got AETHER and POSEIDON, and just got DEMETER last night. Have not been to Thebes yet, but that is my next story mission to get Faro’s Omega clearance in order to acquire HAEPHESTUS.

I loved the POSEIDON mission in Las Vegas. Usually I dislike water levels but everything about that part of the story and the visuals were great.

Really looking forward to finishing the story. I’ll let you know about my thoughts when I finish.

I have not done Wings of the Ten yet.

dreamy….

The qled tech like that alienware monitor appeals to me. Bigger picture tech micro led tech is something to keep an eye on for the big tv screen side of things. Was in best buy on Sunday helping my dad upgrade to a bigger+hdr 4k screen and the 80" plus size tvs are just glorious.

Several months in the LG Oled 55" using as my primary gaming monitor is still god like.

I've been eyeing that alienware ever since they announced it. But I do worry about burn in, as I'd use that for work as well. I think I'm going to wait a year or so and see what the situation is like.

I'm going to get that AW3423DW myself, when they're more available. I tried to buy one directly from Dell last night and they said they'd deliver it sometime in late June. Come on, man.

Anything brighter that HDR400 you will need to wear sunglasses especially with house close monitors are to your eyes so I get annoyed that it keeps getting bandied about has some important spec.

Just a couple of months. Look forward to the review. Dark forces have been tempting me to upgrade my ultrawide.
I hate waiting. I should have a SteamDeck showing up sometime between now and then. I have an April-June delivery window from Valve, so that should tide me over. I got my pre-order in nice and early.

Arthur Morgan passed away this Saturday evening, violently, surrounded by friends and family.

This is his 9th and perhaps final death. Going for 100% completion this time.

Zelda Breath of the Wild - just started playing this with my 10 year old. So far she digs it.

So I just finished and Platinumed the game. My thoughts are below:

It was always going to be difficult to match the main story of Horizon: Zero Dawn given the amount of mystery the original game had and how much fun it was figuring everything out, but I thought Forbidden West did a really good job progressing the story without it getting too repetitive or boring. There were a couple of weird artificial plot devices like Sylens not telling Aloy about Nemesis or why he's using Regalla's army, but overall things made sense in this universe.

I'm sure you've read enough of my political ramblings in past threads, but I really enjoyed how the Zeniths and Ted Faro were portrayed. They are rich, destructive, egotistical assholes and all of their actions seemed consistent with these facts. Thebes was maybe a little over-the-top but couldn't you see Elon Musk or Donald Trump or anyone else of their ilk literally building a monument to themselves in a bunker with slaves that they could "turn off" if they had the means to? I do. The fact that Faro met such an undignified and monstrous end is quite appropriate.

I also really enjoyed Tilda's storyline. She thinks she's different than the other Zeniths, but in the end she is a Zenith through and through. Not understanding her mistake with Elizabet was a particularly neat touch on her character. She thought she should have brought Elizabet on the Odyssey when instead she should have stayed with her and helped. Forgive me if it's a bit political, but I feel like it's a perfect encapsulation of how liberals see systemic problems, understand that they are bad, but instead of making the effort to remedy these problems they just kind of ignore them and let them fester. Tilda decided she would rather flee the world with the worst people the planet has to offer instead of being with the person she loved. And then she helps Aloy (the "best version of Elizabet"), but you come to find she isn't doing it for any moral reason but rather because she regrets not bringing Elizabet on the Odyssey. Instead of staying on Earth and helping Aloy prepare for Nemesis, she once again thinks she can just leave her problems behind and tries to drag Aloy with her. After 1,000 years, she learned nothing.

As for the gameplay: the machine combat was good, but man were the weapon choices a bit overwhelming. I would have preferred fewer weapons and weapon types, but with different upgrades. I don't think I used much else than the bows and the Spike Thrower. I had a pile of weapons that just kind of collected dust.

I disliked the melee combat. It was somewhat tedious and I think I just shot most of the human enemies with arrows from afar instead of bothering with the multitude of combos or whatever.

They could have cut a lot of the side stuff out in the next game. I liked the side missions and the cauldrons but they didn't need 10 black boxes for instance when 3 would have done fine. Same with a lot of the other stuff like the drones or the races.

But overall it was a fantastic game and I am looking forward to the inevitable sequel.

Further to my prior thoughts on Forbidden West, I’m actually ashamed that I missed the very clear reference below:

Gerard is clearly an avatar for Jeff Bezos, even if the developers say otherwise. A filthy rich, bald, megalomaniac who launches himself into space. And you could probably argue Ted Faro is analogous to Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg, though this is less obvious.

But I completely missed that Erik was a stand-in for Erik Prince. 100%. Their names are even the same!

I don’t know what the story-writers’ intentions really were since they are denying these connections, but it’s kind of hard to believe these real life scumbags weren’t inspirations for some of the Zeniths.

It’s hard to really discuss the plot or themes without delving into politics, but needless to say this series speaks to me.

Try as I might, I cannot get into these fromsoftware games like elden ring. I appreciate the unadulterated approach they bring to their games (and the world is gorgeous) but I want to just relax and unwind when I game and don't have the mental fortitude or patience at that point in the day to enjoy dying and retrying over and over for the thrill of the challenge

Playing a From game is like speaking another language. If you immerse yourself it gets a lot easier. Not because your twitch reflexes get better (mine are terrible) but because you just know the language. It's a big investment though. I had a really tough time with my first one (Bloodborne).

Now I'm almost 100 hours in to Elden and I hardly ever die.

When it comes to Soulsborne games, I'm just not interested in mashing the roll button for nine hours. It's not a particularly rewarding experience for me. I'm willing to grind and improve at games, but usually if I'm putting in that level of effort its going to be some form of ranked multiplayer game (I can usually hit Diamond or the equivalent ranking in whatever my "main" game is at the time). I've played thru things like Jedi Fallen Order, but I just don't have enough motivation to do it with fromsoft games (despite liking the aesthetic of their games, particularly Bloodborne). If I'm playing a single player game, I generally want something a little less intense, more story-driven, and that hooks me in relatively early.

Also, the fact that I do most of my gaming on the PC with KBM puts me off of most controller-focused games like these.

I am so glad I opted for the disc version PS5 over digital, which was even harder to find at the time and what I originally wanted for $100 less. Hitting up ebay for older games like witcher 3 that ive never played before for $9 whereas on the PS store its $50 for some odd reason. Add to the fact that many cheaper ps4 versions of games get free ps5 upgrades anyway and I think ill recoup that $100 easily

I do however have a strong suspicion that the next generation of consoles will completely move to all digital like PCs are, without the benefit of things like steam sales

Been playing Lego The Incredibles with my son and this game is great. I’ve never played a Lego game and it’s really well done. Had no idea it was an open world game and that they’d incorporate characters from a bunch of Pixar films and not just The Incredibles.

Are all Lego games this good?

I played the Lego Star Wars games like 10+ years ago on the Wii and I thought they were a ton of fun.

The original LEGO Star Wars was great. I haven't played one since, but I have watched some clips of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on YouTube and it is has me interested. They do a lot of really funny gags to poke fun at scenes.

Playing Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire (mopping up the last of the PS4 games before I move on to the PS5).
I mean its a good game with excellent production values...but the load times...the load times have taken like
10 years off my life. I actually timed them: 2 minutes, pretty much consistently. If you are visiting an entire new island, 2 minute load time; if you are entering a shack the size of a broom closet, it doesn't matter, 2 minute load time; if you are returning to place you just explored 30 seconds earlier, doesn't matter, 2 minute load time. Its unbelievable, its as if they never tested the game before releasing it to market!
I'm a VERY patient guy, I didn't complain about Skyrim and its greater than average load times; but 2 minutes+, almost consistently, is just too much to take, despite the fact that the game itself is pretty good (but not great).

I get it, and I'm not trying to convince you to like From games, but what I didn't understand about Souls games is there are a lot of different ways to play them. In Elden I hardly dodge at all because I'm usually throwing spells from behind my shield. Others use bows, or giant axes, or throw lightning. The variety is part of the fun, and I really think there's a style that works for most players.

But it can be hard to find.
