I get it, and I'm not trying to convince you to like From games, but what I didn't understand about Souls games is there are a lot of different ways to play them. In Elden I hardly dodge at all because I'm usually throwing spells from behind my shield. Others use bows, or giant axes, or throw lightning. The variety is part of the fun, and I really think there's a style that works for most players.

But it can be hard to find.
Yeah, I know my characterization of it being only rolls is reductionist (although certain Soulsborne games have more alternate play styles than others), but my point wasn't so much about whatever particular avoidance technique you prefer, but rather the formulaic approach to boss fights becomes tiresome. Its a lot of "find the avoidance that works for this phase and then repeat until that boss phase is over." To me it feels a lot more of a game built around avoiding mistakes than it does a game where you're actually engaging and making plays. I know some bosses can be cheesed, but that doesn't really change my point either.

Been playing Lego The Incredibles with my son and this game is great. I’ve never played a Lego game and it’s really well done. Had no idea it was an open world game and that they’d incorporate characters from a bunch of Pixar films and not just The Incredibles.

Are all Lego games this good?
The lego marvel game also rips. Bought it for like 5 bucks and ended up putting a lot of co-op time in that game, really accessible and satisfying

We have that one too actually. Going to play it once we finish The Incredibles. And now that I think about it I have Lego DC Super Villains as well because it was a free game for PS Plus one month.

Evidently every team, league, jersey, and player will still be in the new games which I don’t understand. I thought the point of having rights with FIFA was so they had all of the licenses.

Yeah, but unlike the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, FIFA is just the international governing body for football/soccer. They only handle the World Cup and international tourneys like the continental cups. The EPL, Serie A, Bundesliga, South American professional teams, MLS, whoever are each separate and can deal with whoever they like.

But, like, what the hell was the point of paying tons of money just to use the FIFA name? I get brand recognition but nobody even likes FIFA, the governing body. Strange.

That's why EA said enough is enough. FIFA wanted to charge over $1 billion per four year World Cup cycle just to slap the name FIFA on it and have "World Cup" stand alone games and game modes in the yearly titles.

Everyone knows the name FIFA, even if they don't know say Bayern Munich, so that's why EA stuck with it. But still, EA is no saint either lol, EA and FIFA deserved each other.

Either way, with EA now breaking off to make EA Sports "FC" (I think they are not allowed to use football, futball, soccer, association, and some other words in the title due to FIFA but I could be wrong), there probably will be now 2 yearly soccer sims/titles.

FIFA has already said they are looking for another publisher for their FIFA video games brand. Not sure if they are also going to charge them over $1 billion every four years as well.

My understanding is that MS is committed to bringing all of their first party games to PC. But there are some 3rd party GamePass games that are console only (including NHL).

Currently PS4 with a bit of PC, interested in the Steam Deck and eventually PS5.

Stopped Xbox after going through several 360s that threw up rings of death for some reason. Went through DIY heat sink repairs, HD swaps, all kinds of shit. Gave up. Still have 2 that work, sitting around doing nothing, and a bunch of games.

Prior to that had regular Xbox, PS1, PS2, Sega Genesis, Nintendo NES, Atari 2600.

PC gaming goes back to Apple II series and then just a bunch of dead desktops and laptops too numerous to count.

I prefer console gaming and I'm not sure why. Maybe because I spend so much time working on PC/laptop as it is.

I was Nintendo, Sega, N64, GameCube, PS2, Xbox 360, PS4, and now PS5. I Thinking about getting a Switch for all the Nintendo titles and for my son who has gotten into games recently. We’ve been playing Mario Party/Kart on N64 and then the Lego games on PS and he’s really gotten into them. Hesitant to add to his screen time though, it’s crazy all the shit thrown in front of kids these days and Covid certainly didn’t help.

It would take something significant for me to leave PS for Microsoft at this point. I like the exclusives better and the controller better. Never really liked the XBox but wanted to try something new. Glad I did it but won’t go back.

Used to PC game all the time (Command & Conquer, Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Warcraft, Sid Meyer games, Heroes series, way too many others I don’t even remember at this point) but the computers I’ve used the last decade have all been given to me by my employers. Exclusively a console guy now which I kind of always preferred anyway for some reason. g00n’s point about spending too much time on my computer as it is a valid one. Also I have a 70” OLED set up for the PS5 so not going to match that with a desktop or laptop.

In terms of current games, playing Tribes of Midgard right now and it’s a ton of fun. Would be more fun with people you know since playing with people who don’t use mics and don’t understand that it’s a team/community game isn’t ideal. It’s one of the free games for PS+ subscribers this month.
