Finally got around to starting Elden Ring last week.

It has me so far. One of my biggest complaints about some of the other Souls games is that if you die at a boss, you have to tediously march back through the entire level (albeit with shortcuts) to try again. I'm only about 20 hours into the game, but so far every time I've died at a boss I can either restart right there, or very closeby. It makes attempting bosses much less daunting.

The world is fantastic and the characteristic understated storytelling and lack of handholding is great, as usual. Looking forward to exploring some more!

There are far more bad Warhammer games than good ones. So I wouldn't get too excited. (Not to mention its a Russian developer, so who knows what types of sanctions will land before it releases)

They're in Cyprus. Some team members were in Moscow, but they've been relocating them

Our headquarters had always been in Cyprus, with developers working from multiple countries. A lot of developers were located in Moscow until recently, but now many of us are relocating to Cyprus, Armenia and other places. If there was anything good in the pandemic, it is that it gave us a plenty of experience in coordinating and working on our projects online from multiple locations, so we can continue to create games for you guys.

I think I need to put down HFW for a while. Maybe I finished HZD too recently, it's just not grabbing me.

Yeah you haven't even scratched the surface yet.

The first one took me a while to get into as well. I think the story is what kept me going for HZD until I got used to the gameplay and weapon mods etc. Right now the story isn't as compelling, maybe that will change, and there are several other layers of weapon/ability toggles to keep track of.

I'm normally ok with that but don't find these totally intuitive yet. Part of the problem could be the menus are so large they're partially off my screen and I can't adjust it any smaller (older projection big screen).

The initial phase of any game can be boring due to guided training and establishment of the setting, which usually requires a lot of banal dialogue. HZD had that dialogue issue all the way through, so now the early stage of HFW also has me rolling my eyes with every tedious interaction.

Maybe I just like being the plucky underdog more than the jaded but bothered "savior". At least when it comes to video games. alksd

The story in ZD is no doubt more compelling because it’s a total mystery as to what is going on and how the world got to that condition. The mystery of the Old Ones to me is one of the more captivating plot lines in any video game ever.

That said, FW has a great story as well though it does tend to move deeper into the fiction part of science fiction than the original, which I felt was not completely unrealistic. FW also does a terrific job incorporating different tribes and geographic areas which adds depth to the experience.

Putting it down isn’t a bad option if it’s not hooking you. I put down Ghost of Tsushima after Act I, which even that I had to grudgingly plod through, because I had just put in 80+ hours into AC Odyssey and I was completely over the open world genre at that point. I came back to GoT probably 8 months later and was instantly hooked to the point where I played through the entire game and DLC and started doing the meaningless stuff to get to 100% just because I didn’t want to put it down.

When I get tired of a game I’m done with it. One day I got bored with FW after completing the main story and all of the side missions and I haven’t picked it up in months. I don’t feel particularly compelled to start the New Game+ which just came out this week… I think I’m on a Horizon hiatus until the DLC comes out.

Yeah I think I'm just burned out a bit. Though I am looking at the new Borderlands Tiny Tina spin off with a bit of side eye...

Sigh….Wish there was some really compelling stuff to push me to get a new gaming PC……..get back into the swing….

Just completed the SteamDeck purchase from my pre-order, and it should ship within a day or two.
Congrats! Which one did you get and when did you put down a deposit?

I just put down $5 on the mid-tier one about a month ago, so I have a while to wait. I resisted at first because we have a Switch, but my kid has taken that over so I'm moving on.

I was quite early with my pre-order. I ordered day one in the PM, Eastern. I want to say maybe within a couple of hours of when it went live? Maybe even faster than that. I still didn't get in that first small batch. This is the second batch, and it was a band of April-June. They must have been absolutely hammered with pre-orders.

I got the expensive one, with 512GB of storage. There was something more than just storage to differentiate them, I think. ... OK, the lowest one has eMMC storage whie the higher two use NVMe. The highest one has an anti-glare etched screen, I think, as well. Otherwise all three are supposed to have the same hardware.

No, but it was always going to be a while. I've been checking it daily. From day one, it's listed an estimated ship date of June 21st.

Update on the timeline from Dell/Alienware. The site now says:

"We are working on your order and it is still on track to meet the communicated delivery date." So late June still seems possible. Here's hoping.

And the status on the Steam Deck order has changed from Processing to Shipping Soon.
