I'm conflicted. Not a fan of Souls games but the reviews have been amazing and most say it's more approachable. I want to play it but I'm also afraid I won't get into it.

I much prefer fan reviews like here. Those professional reviewers, you never know, they could be on the company payroll or something. Also they really haven't played the game for all that long.

Fan reviews (like in this thread) tend to be much more accurate. People are paying $60 a pop for these game, and they want their money's worth, so they're going to be critical.

So I'll wait to see what the fans have to say about Elden Ring.

Well the fans may not be paid but those sweaty losers in discord trying to organize a review bombing campaign would have me pausing before I trust the fan voice too much either

Those Elden Ring character classes seemed like they were trying to do something different.

I still favor the more isometric RPG games and especially if they have turn based options. Been playing Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous a lot this winter but I keep creating new character in the eternal character min/maxing so haven't gone too deep in the overall story which seems like a bazillion more quests. But more recently back into Eve Online (mostly hi-sec mining).

A new Dragon Age game that apparently is in development would be cool the last version was great, imho. Recently tried to play through it again but it crashes pretty soon right after the intro and never found a way around it.

Pretty much what I do with most RPGs . Spend more time making characters than actually playing the game.

Never played a "Souls" type game, no interest.

People who have played Elden say that if you don't like the Souls games, this still probably isn't for you.

I am a From fan, so I've had this one preordered for months. Too bad I won't get to it for a couple of weeks.

Thankfully those neckbeards don't post here though. :)

I guess what is it that defines a Souls type game I'm just curious.

"you'd better like learning your lesson" basically, it's like living a training montage.

the gameplay is all about facing challenges, learning to beat them, folding that into your arsenal until you can blow by previously difficult stages of the game just because you're actually good at it now. the games hold you to the decisions you make control-wise and don't let you fudge out of stuff other games might forgive you for so if you go in swinging and you suck you're gonna get blasted but when you come out the other side and know your character you start feeling like a monster killing master duelist

and big ass bosses

Slower, methodical combat. Difficult bosses. Games that will kill you without hesitation. Dark atmosphere. Opaque stories.

But also class variety, consistent rulesets, and wiggle room for exploits.

Edit: more broadly, they're fantasy 3rd person action RPGs.

please he didn't even mention anything about killing a guy on the stairs so hard it breaks reality

I just want to say that I am having a blast playing Guardians of the Galaxy. I haven't laughed out loud this much during a video game in a long time. If the Guardian of the Galaxy movies are up your alley, this probably will be too although its not the MCU GotG. It's been a lot of fun.

Finally finished the story in FC6 and popped this in. Spot on description. Laughing my ass off.

The gameplay is close to Uncharted but with a team of allies to partially control. If you don't like having to mash buttons suddenly to avoid dying during a cut scene (a peeve of mine) you may be upset. Especially if you don't get it right a few times and have to sit through 30+ second loads for every screw up.

I'm barely into the plot but overall the comedy keeps it interesting. Skill trees don't seem all that complex but the actual utilization of all the powers can get complicated in the heat of battle which is usually a bunch of aliens swarming you in a combat area.

And I swear to god the intro scene in Peter's room was damn near spot on nostalgia. Holy hell.

Lol they just announced this game is coming to Game Pass!

Not sure if you are a subscriber, but people should be able to get to play for free soon (with the sub).

I loved every minute of that game. I haven't laughed so much in a game in awhile. The whole way through. Underrated gem. I'm glad you like it's!

Edit: the game play isn't anything to write home about, but the game is just so overall entertaining, I didn't care.

What are you doing with my toothbrush??

Toothbrush?! You mean you've been putting my nailbrush in your mouth?!

Gamora!!

About 16 hours into Forbidden West. Wow! What a game!

There’s so much stuff to do but for now I’m focusing primarily on the main story missions. I’m sure I’m going to go back any explore every one of those ? marks on the map once I beat the game.

I’m 25 hours in but I’ve been doing everything along the way. It’s a terrific game. Recommend looking at some of the rewards for side missions (if you don’t already) because you get some weapons and tools that are useful earlier on than you normally would (or not at all).

I don’t find the story quite as compelling as Zero Dawn but that was an impossible standard to live up to and for me, I don’t think another game will ever hit Zero Dawn’s storyline. That said, it’s still a really interesting story that I’m looking forward to see unfold and I really like how they weave in the new and old characters.

There’s a TikTok/Instagram Reel trend of guys showing off their car with the Need For Speed Underground 2 theme playing. Would absolutely play a Need For Speed Underground game again. So much nostalgia

I remember having admins powers on a super popular Q3 CTF pickup server based in DC and being on Comcast broadband in Arlington averaged 7-12 ping to it. Being mostly a D player it surely annoyed many. Still doesn't compare to lan latency I recall playing in a tournament down in Raleigh, NC that had some of the higher end east coast Q3 players at the time and the speed/skill still puts to shame the popular shooters of today where things have been dumbed down. I remember one player I thought for sure was a cheat and then watched the ridiculous skill he had just standing behind him in a 2v2 match.

At least you acknowledged that you have had an advantage. Usually, if you say that you have big ping ppl say it's not true, you're just a bad player.

Lol, the days of dial up
This ping you still can have it. Depends on what server game send you.

I really really really really miss multiplayer arena shooters like Q3. There just doesn't seem to be enough interest in that type of game anymore. I can't get into CoD, Battlefield, Halo multiplayer at all.

Always used to love if I had slow internet or bad connectivity and I was playing Unreal Tournament or some other online multiplayer shooter and your screen would lag but you’d hear yourself getting annihilated and when the screen caught up you’d be dead. Good times.
