OT: Video Game Thread Part VIII

I’m thinking of buying a Switch to help pass the time while I have to be face-down for 50 minutes of every hour awake for a week while I recover from my eye surgery. What accessories would you guys recommend I get to get the best possible Switch gaming experience?
It sounds like you're going to be playing handheld? The only real thing I would recommend is a Pro controller but that's more for if you're playing docked. Otherwise it's pretty solid without accessories. There are things like a split pad controller but it just turns it into a giant beefcake to hold when using it in handheld mode.

Handheld for that week yeah. Pro Controller eh? I’ll definitely look into that! Thanks!

Forgot to ask: What games would you strongly recommend?

I love my Switch. I don't really have any accessories other than a carrying case. I know there are a bunch and this is not helpful lol. I'm just here to recommend that you buy the OLED Switch instead of the original.

Costco has a great deal going for a Switch OLEE bundle that I’ll probably get. Comes with:
  • Nintendo Switch OLED Model
  • Nintendo Licensed 256GB MicroSD Card
  • Nintendo Switch Online One Year Membership
  • PowerA Protection Case with Screen Protector

I’ll likely be getting the Pro Controller.l too.

Any games that you’d highly recommend?

First game of new CoD

8 streak on first life, 35-7 game.

The SBMM gods will have their revenge. I’m screwed. People say it’s stronger in this game than any before.

We've only had ours since May but so far i've enjoyed

Zelda Breath of the Wild
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Super Mario Odyssey
Cuphead

There are a ton of interesting indie games I have my eye on to play next.

Bought this on sale a month or two ago on the PlayStation Store. I’ve heard good things in general about this game though. Hard as f*** but fun is the general consensus. I’ll need to make more of a dent in my backlog to get to it but I will eventually.

Hard as f*** is an appropriate description lol

It's such a beast to locate pitches with the stick control in The Show. I'm sporting an ERA in the 9s and a WHIP in the mid 2s with Oscar Mayer.

Cuphead
Hades
Shovel Knight
Dead Cells
Inscryption
Disco Elysium
Divinity: Original Sin 2

Some of those are narrow bands of taste, so if it's not up your alley, don't buy it thinking it will change your mind on a genre.

*Edit* Don't buy Dead Cells. It's free with Netflix on various platforms now with all of the DLC. Do that instead.

Cuphead, Hades, Dead Cells, Disco Elysium, and Divinity Original Sin 2 are all a part of my PlayStation backlog. I’ve heard nothing but good things about each of those games though!

Inscryption eh? I’ve heard that’s supposed to be awesome.

I’ll have to look up shovel knight because I’ve never heard of it.

I recently finished Demon’s Souls and Alan Wake remastered. Very different games but good in their own right.

Just started Nioh…challenging would be an understatement for this. Having a harder time with this then Souls games lol. Still fun though.

Are you playing anything in particular right now?

Shovel Knight is what happens when you start from a base of the best Mega Man game in decades and then get really creative in bosses, powers, platforming and everything else under the sun while modernizing the stuff that shouldn't matter like limited lives and one boss' weapon 2 shotting another boss.

And I'm not just saying this because they lovingly ripped something out of one of the most underrated games ever made in U.N. Squadron.

Right now, I'm playing Orcs Must Die! 3 co-op with my wife, but I don't know if that made it to any consoles.

Gaming laptops also don't last very long if you're playing anything stressing. That will never change without a breakthrough in computing that's nowhere near the horizon. Plus that's a different price range.

Someone on Twitter mentioned they got 4-5 hours out of full and high fidelity games with Lies of P and CP2077 on the new Deck. That's impressive.
