One touch passing is finicky. In practice mode, testing it, you basically have to hit it almost as soon as the person releases. Too tight and it’s awkward. It’s sort of ridiculous that they can’t just go back to the snappy passing pre-Frostbite.
I didn’t try the new controls because they seem ridiculous. I hate what they did to the A button, since it’s muscle memory. Sprint and protect being the same button is moronic, but I have it paddled. I also figured out some ridiculous move where you can stick handle back and forth while protecting, and you swing the puck like it’s a lacrosse stick. It’s horribly cheesy.
Goaltending looks ass. I liked the ability to not get bumped and actually control a puck. It felt more skill based than Loose-Pickup-Fest 22. But the hip check is broken, and we’ll see if that’s more a product of no one knowing how to hit yet. Hitting does seem harder to time though. The poke check is barely usable. Defending is just a bucket of shit right now.
The pressure system I’m mixed on. I hate dominating time with the puck and watching the other team pick cherries and get rewarded. But the pressure system seems exploitable if you want to purposefully cycle without a real aim to score. And the stamina loss rate is a bit absurd.
