It certainly isn't high on my list of things I need in my life. It is really just a consideration because if I am buying a PC to play fortnite and WC, it would be cool to use it for racing. I wouldn't need a crazy realistic setup. More for fun. I'd rather spend money taking my actual car to the track than spending a tons on a sim rig.

One of the first games I played as a kid on PC was Indianapolis 500. It was on a Floppy disc and you could actually do all kinds of setup adjustment and fuel loading, pit stops, etc. They had like a "sim Indy 500" where you actually tried to complete the whole thing with 32 other cars. It was next to impossible.

edit: lol just found it on YT 1989...well ahead of its time

Got it. 1080p at 144/165 hz vs 1440p at 60 fps is your sweet spot then on a great rig. It's just personal preference on whether higher resolution or framerate makes more of a difference to your eyes.

Holy f***ing shit core memory unlocked. Here's a game I never thought I'd see again and never even thought to look up. This game is probably the reason I have a huge soft spot for any racing games. Gran Turismo 2 might be the peak for "sims" for me, with Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and WipeOut also integral to my being.

On weekends when my dad only had to do research tasks or catch up on imaging at the hospital, he used to bring me along to gaze at fluoroscopy of clogged hearts with him. But mostly I spent my time playing this game. It was indeed impossible to finish the full race, so therefore I just aimed for max chaos. While surrounded by jars of dog hearts.

Oh yeah, I forgot to give the update about the PS1 and if it worked...

It does!

Nostalgia unlocked.
Just listening to the startup sound/animation thing gets me going full Anton Ego from Ratatouille.

I mean I love nostalgia but when it comes to video games I don’t typically go backwards.

Just my buddy mentioned the other day that he asked his wedding band to learn to play Superman by Goldfinger so it got me looking into getting a PS1 to have around for his bachelor party next weekend for the member berries.

53 hours into Elden Ring. Guess I'm converted now but I won't ever reach my friend's obsessive heights. I still feel weak 50% of the time but it's much better than 99% of the time. And at least I can chat with my friends who never leave their damn houses anymore, which is the most important thing.

Well technically we're all together right now because we're moving all his sister's shit out of her house before her abusive husband comes home from work because restraining order.

I loved that Indy 500 game.

FF14..anyone play? how good is it?
It's been about a year since I played, but...

FF14 is a lot of fun. It's a very approachable game that you can sink months into if you want, or play casually and be just fine. The game mechanics aren't terribly advanced. Dungeons are pretty simple and not terribly time consuming. The server I was on had more than enough people that queues were never long.

The only downside, that they may have fixed, is the storyline is unskippable in the original expansions, so you have to sit through all the slow animations and stuff. That was my biggest complaint.

I only stopped playing because I have an unhealthy addiction to WoW classic.

Before I click and get disappointed, please tell me this is the old sega cd game, where it was command and conquer before C&C was a thing.

Damnit, it’s a new game that seems similar but probably has all sorts of shit that I won’t grasp like the crusader games. I think it’s crusader, the ones with the in-depth marriage and lineage system and such.
