I'm not doubting the impact. I'm doubting the game. Critics loved I Care a lot and it was terrible, just utter trash. IIRC Mass Effect 3 is something like a 93 and it is also utter trash. I don't put my whole belief into what critics say.

Also, System Shock is more impactful that RE4 for video games in general. Maybe one of the most influential games of all time. Doesn't make System Shock GOAT though.
Don't hate the game, hate the player 😎

I didn't particularly mind Ashley. Having to babysit her fit with the narrative.

The thing that aged very badly are all the QTEs.

Shenmue was fantastic, but Shenmue popularizing QTEs was one of the worst things to do for video gaming. Quantic Dream has made a whole studio of QTE.

I (re)beat Resident Evil Code Veronica X last night. It's the last game in the series with the tank controls and pre-rendered backgrounds.

I'd give it a 7/10. The gameplay is good, but it was the first RE game to really jump the shark with the story. I also had a ridiculous amount of ammo left at the end of the game, which made the final boss too easy.
That's what I loved about Code Veronica. Steve Burnside is such a terrible, yet great character. That game really does need to be remade soon. It's extremely important to the over arching story of the franchise. It should have been given the RE4 name.

What? Mass Effect III was rubbish? Fam, you gotta go deeper in this blud. Granted, MEIII is not my favourite game of the series - I loved the concept of us versus them in MEII - it was a step up in terms of gameplay from every single one except for the stupid decision to make the true ending into "downloadable content" months later. Thankfully, I played this game for a month or so when they released the ending so I got the full game and came away very satisfied. There are a ton of horrible endings out there and even though it was a marketing nightmare, the actual storyline elements of the game was one head nod of approval from Ron Swanson. Halo 3 is another one that fits the bill, I thought it actually had a pretty overrated campaign for me personally, but the last couple of levels to the ending was just deeply fulfilling.

Slightly OT, but the only part of the game I struggled with was when Steve turned into the Hulk and I had to outrun him in that corridor.

I had to re-try that part at least 10 times, which was frustrating because I had to replay the previous 5-10 minutes before that every time just to get back to Steve. I also got crushed several (5+) times by the anvil that you need to use to break the security card (which takes you to Hulk Steve) out of the glass orb.

This 5 minute section of the game (anvil + Hulk Steve) accounted for 90% of my deaths. :skull:

It's been a while since I played that game, but I do remember dying to Hulk Steve in that hallway more than a few times. I also remember getting completely lost and had to barrow my friends prima strategy guide in the second area of the game. That snow facility.

The ending was a huge stumble, and the 'true' ending only came out after huge backlash. Instead of going with artist intent, they catered to the fans. Not the biggest issue with the game though. The issue with ME3 is they basically ruined all the leadup from ME2 and made all your decisions from that game basically pointless... and in doing so and extending beyond, they killed the character interactions in the game. Instead of being a story driven by you and your decisions, you got guided to what Bioware wanted and how they wanted to wrap up the story. The first two games had built it up as your universe with your consequences... basically building off what they did with KOTOR and it built an amazing world. ME3 basically threw all that in the trash.

If ME3 didn't follow 1 and 2, it would probably be looked at more favorably by me. But they basically ruined the trilogy with how they designed 3.

The Citadel DLC was the saving grace of ME3 taking it from complete trash, to moderately tolerable... but that was a year after the game came out and was completely there to smoothover their F up.

Mass Effect 3 definitely didn't live up to the first two classics. They stripped away many RPG elements, focused on action, added a bunch of humor and went out with a terrible ending. Not exactly the best way to end the trilogy, but it's still a decent game.

Haven't really paid any attention to gaming news, so I wanted to cheque out more about Starfield and it could be the most ambitious game ever created. I do think there will be repetitive planets and I do not trust a single word that Todd Howard says, but dang this game could be something. The game looks absolutely stunning, but the combat was a big letdown. It looked worse than Mass Effect 1, which was released in 2007.

If I'm being honest, most of the ambition they're flaunting seems to have already been accomplished in No Man's Sky and in some ways they've done it even better (like seamless planetary travel). But I guess we'll see!

That is true, but I never played No Man's Sky and so all I am basing my report on is the marketing words of Todd Howard with the number of systems to explore, the amount of customisation, mining, etc. There will probably be a lot of repetitive situations, which was the reason why No Man's Sky didn't do as hot (including Death Stranding). Both seem like brilliant games with a ton of quality work put in, but sort of lost the plot the further it was developed. I am glad that you gave No Man's Sky a shout because without them experimenting with tech and pushing beyond the boundaries, we probably would not be getting Starfield.

After being in love with Breath of the Wild since playing it in last october, I bought Skyward Sword on sale. I know it's different but curious to play it.

VR2 next week, exciting stuff.

Going to start with the free upgrades to GT7, RE Village and No Man's Sky. GT7 especially should be fantastic in VR.

I liked it on the Wii, even with the somewhat janky motion controls. Some of the best Zelda dungeons in the series. Best story in the series in my opinion, but that's a very low bar to clear as Nintendo generally doesn't do story in their games. There are some frustrating things about it too though.
