That's Lidström you're talking about. It's not underestimating Hedman, you're just comparing him to one of the greatest defensemen of all time.

@JoVel
@LightningStrikes

I am/was comparing them at their peak level, both are Stanley Cup, James Norris Trophy and Conn Smyth Trophy winners. For this I don't care about the number of trophies in a historical point of view.

My comparison is truly relevant but peoples views are different, that's life.

Their absolute one season peaks might not be that far apart, but it's still comfortably Lidström. And he was also very close to his peak for like 37 years.

Hopefully Hedman will win the Norris Trophy this season, will probably be a close race between Hedman and Fox. Why not another Cup and Conn Smythe trophy as well?

Meanwhile you can continue laughing when I compare Hedman to Lidstrom.

Cale Makar (not Fox) is probably the next superstar defenseman though. Makar is such an amazing offensive talent and racking up points obviously helps for winning trophies even though he is not the strongest defensive d-man (both Hedman and Fox clearly superior in this area).

Hedman briefly passes Kucherov for 4th most points in Franchise history

1. St. Louis - 953
2. Stamkos - 918
3. Lecavalier - 874
4. Hedman - 565
5. Kucherov - 564

Hedman also ties Point and Lecavalier for 3rd most OT goals

1. St. Louis - 10
1. Stamkos - 10

With 47 points in 46 games, he's still on pace to break his single season career best 72 points (2017). He was 3rd in Norris voting that year behind Karlsson and Burns. He won it the following year with 63 points, his 2nd highest season.

2. Hedman - 17 goals (2018)
4. Hamrlik - 16 goals (1996)
4. Hedman - 16 goals (2017)

Top 5 assist seasons for a dman

Wow, that's wild. Think of how upsetting it would've been to have heard in 2019* when Kuch first passed Hedman that 3 years later they'd still be basically tied for career points.

With hindsight, it's a huge bummer that we've lost so much Kuch in his prime but with two Cups and another good shot at this year it's hard to be too unhappy.

*I think Kuch passed Heddy in his magical 2018-2019 regular season, but I don't feel like digging into the numbers enough to be sure.

He just doesn't have the insanely quick release like Stamkos, which can make it seem like a guy shoots harder than he does.

And then there's Bogosian. I don't even know what it is about that guy's slapper that makes me feel fear in my guts for the guys in front of the net.

Bogo’s shot is so hard he even injures himself while shooting.

I think Hedman figured out how you have to shoot to win that contest, because before I don't think he broke 100mph.

I sometimes wonder if the guy doesn't just shoot wide on purpose almost every time and doesn't care for slap shots and even after all these years none of us really have a clue what he's capable of. I'm gonna have a hard time believing this little slice of Lightning history wasn't Hedman planning the play. I guess he thinks "Why crank it when I can do this?"

But of course I've been wrong before
