Grier might just be a yes man to the owner. But by doing so hes also cost himself ever getting another GM job in this league when the owner fires him.

And Hertl is going to be an albatross of a contract within two years. Getting out from that contract right now is great.
Yup.... I'm thinking this will end up costing Vegas another first to get rid of him in 3-4 years.

The Sharks really retain 17% for 6 years? That's between 1.3 and 1.4M for 6 year.
I mean that looks like it will fit their timeline fine and they still have one or two? For getting an extra pick every year or whatever

I get Sharks are trying to rebuild, but retention for 7 years should have cost more.

Vegas has a first this year, but they are really putting it all on the table, it will get ugly in a few years.

Maybe one day GMs will learn not to sign players to albatross contracts although I don't think this one was signed by Grier. Still this looks like a bad deal for the Sharks.
