Just my opinion, but McKenzie's tweet wasn't that straight forward. He mentioned that Preds intention is to keep Emelin in lineup.

If they are planning on trading one of their existing top 4 d, off course they traded for Emelin with the intentions to play him.

Or they intend on keeping and playing him without trading one of their d?

I think Preds see Emelin as top 4 D, it just doesn't make sense to allocate cap/salary of $4 million for a d to play in your 3rd pairing IMO.

Maybe Poile is trying to keep playing to their strengths ? Their top 4 already is amazing and adding a guy like Emelin to the bottom 4 just makes it that much more strong.

To be fair, our 3rd pairing got ripped apart in the playoffs. By the end they were almost never playing and were a disaster when they did. Poile may just be addressing that.

Let's try it again since everyone ignored it:

Makes no sense to make this trade, at this time, for depth. This is a move made in February. No point in holding on to that much cap when you can see what your needs are, better, at the trade deadline.

Still smells like this isn't the end. Whether they hold on to him and trade Ekholm or someone else, remains to be seen.

Weber and Irwin got push over the entire playoffs, this wont happen with Emelin.

People will have to keep their heads up because Emelin doesn't care about anything.

Maybe. The idea isn't crazy by any stretch, it's really the cap/salary for me. Maybe since Preds don't seem like a cap team, Poile doesn't really care about his salary or the fact he'd be playing 3rd pair. Could be :)

Preds still have 19.7 million to sign Johansen and Arvidsson and a couple of ~1 mil per RFAs

McPhee continues to be a failure. How is a 3rd round pick worth more than Charles Hudon for a startup team like Vegas?

I don't understand this trade at all from Nashville's perspective. Methot was available, similar cap hit, extra year, for not much more.

If the idea is to replace Ekholm it's a horrible idea. If the idea is to add toughness to the bottom pairing why get a guy who costs 4 million and doesn't offer much dependability or even physicality outside of 2-3 hits per game?

Don't really understand this move if it's by itself. Surely there are other options than a slow 4 mil 3rd pairing defender. Also I suppose emelin is more valuable than Wilson

I'm assuming this is sarcasm and you don't actually think Hudon is some great prospect with NHL speed that Montreal's been sitting on.

According to HF, nobody wants Emelin. Picked in expansion, rumour Habs wanted him back, Poile trades for him.

I'm baffled as well. I just don't get it. Moves that don't make sense as well is trading Methot for a pick 3 drafts away, not taking Dumba, not taking B Kulak from CGY.

Basically you have to wonder what is worth more here: C Hudon or a late 3rd round pick.

Did he ever play with PK Montreal fans?

Yes but that was a long time ago and they were awful together, zero chemistry. Emelin at times is way out of position thus not the type of D needed with PK. I hope for you guys that you don't trade one of your top 4 for Duchesne, as Emelin NEEDS to be on your bottom pair as he is inconsistent. Still love em though. He's better than Matt Irwin.

So the top teams Central has decided to commit roster suicide, and let the Jets win for a change?

You think that Nashville adding Bonino, Emelin and Hartnell and losing Neal, Wilson and possibly Fisher they are now worse then the Jets?

What a vivid imagination you have, perhaps you should write science fiction.

I think Preds about to trade one of their d for Duchene. So they made this trade beforehand. Not saying it's right move or not, but that's my gut feel.

I'm thinking you might be right. Emelin isn't exactly a stud but hes to solid to bring in as a 3rd pair defender and eat 4 mill in cap over it.

The price of d-men seems to have dropped the past few days (see methot), he probably thought he could get a 2nd+prospect for him when he took him

Granted said phenomenon is probably McPhee's fault for taking so many d-men and making them expendable

I will explain it, they are under no obligation to trade Ekholm and Poille has said he would not be traded. Of course Ekholm still could be traded but if not this helps Nashvilles third pair.

This is by far the most logical explanation. We got beat up a lot on that 3rd pairing.
