Confirmed Trade: [VGK/CGY/PHI] Noah Hanifin (75% retained), Mikhail Vorobyov to VGK; 2026 1st , 2025 cond. 3rd, Daniil Miromanov to CGY; 2024 5th to PHI

Vegas has been on LTIR since Jan 12 with Eichel then Stone. Actually all year if you count in the snakecharmer.

Matt Murray has been on LTIR all season, but he’s not going to play in the playoffs.

Will Stone? Of course he will

That’s the problem here

What’s funny is that Edmonton already lost to Vegas without Eichel/Theodore. That playoff series is already a formality. Vegas is loading up for 2nd round and beyond
What's funny is your team is within striking distance of Vegas for a playoff spot and instead of being mad about trading your best D to them, you guys are all celebrating your divisional rival having a better chance against us in the playoffs. Peak little brother.

Yeah, there's all kinds of grey area there.

1. Define what "cap compliant" means. Again, I can think of a number of ways to define it; instead of picking one of them and assuming that's what you mean, which I have no idea what you're thinking on this, I want you to spell it out in at least some detail, because

2. I want to see if it's defined such that it satisfies the 5 points I raised, which I'm willing to bet are a minimum requirement, because

3. That 6th point - NHLPA approval required - I can guarantee is going to apply.
I think its pretty simple. If the NHL salary cap is 83M then the 20 players dressed in an NHL playoff game needs to be 83M or less. It would allow teams to add during the season if they have injuries, but wouldn't allow them to have an unfair advantage come playoffs if a player comes back from injury. They could still put that player into the line up but they'd have to take somebody else out.

Well I didn’t say they were winning the cup. Hanifin doesn’t move the needle like that. But Edmonton will be out in 5 regardless of this trade
I know, I'm just being snarky. VGK will give anyone a run for their money, just takes a team on a heater for an upset to happen though.

GM Eichel strikes again. He is trying to bring all his boys out to Vegas to do a rat pack. He just points to his fake neck and holds up a money phone...mccrimmon knows its over.

It makes too much sense!

There is no “unfair advantage” every team has the same advantage. Also you can’t put a cap system in the post season when players don’t get paid for playing in the post season

No every team does not have the same advantage. Timing of injuries affects the ability to utilize this. And Why can't you? Cap hit has nothing to do with salaries earned.

This is some intrguing mental gymnastics, will give you that

Indeed.

I don't think anybody has a problem with what teams like Vegas, Toronto, and others are doing right now. That's how LTIR is supposed to work.

The problem comes in the playoffs if they are icing a team that's a solid $10M over the cap.

The "loophole" is entirely the lack of cap in the playoffs.

Hey c'mon... Don't post this.. it ruins other fans excuses!
For the record I'm ok with what Vegas is doing but this post is completely irrelevant. Vancouver is in LTIR but we cant add anyone because our guy is back before the playoffs. People are pissed if Stone and now possibly Alex both come back for the playoffs while getting tu use their 12 million to add Mantha Hanifin etc and then get them back for the playoffs.

A simple fix is players not playing game 82 cant return for the playoffs if LTIR was used with their cap that's a fair way to do it.

The hold up is Montreal is the 3rd party team and Kent Hughes needed to add some flavor to the deal with ridiculous conditions on the 4th rounder

In what sense? You just traded your #1D to Vegas. You are 8 points back of Vegas with a game in hand and a head to head match up still to play. You are keeping Markstrom to "send the right message". Yet here you are celebrating Vegas playoff success

Your “cap hit” is accrued through the season, once your salary is paid your cap hit is 0. How do you think teams accrue cap space at the TDL for expensive players at cheaper hits?

A player entering the post season has a cap hit of 0 because they are not being paid to play hockey anymore.

You can’t predict injuries, so yes every team has LTIR available to them.
