if Vesey is legit great signing by Rags. That's how you reload when trading draft picks.
Bruins (and Devils) fans are very mad lol

For those who didn't see it/didn't pop over to the thread on our board.

Pretty sure this tweet is in jest, considering how big of a fan Liam is known to be of the Rangers.

This guy is the most overhyped prospect since. I can't even say

The guy will be so average it won't be funny

Congrats Rangers fans! Would of liked him to sign with Leafs, but not heart broken either. Great free asset which will help your team.

lol

I don't see the appeal of a sky-high taxes and loads of distractions when I'm just starting my career.

because the harvard guy does. NYC is where you go to make the big bucks. the networking and contacts alone that this kid will meet and casino nights and fund raisers in NYC in the next 2 years could set his grand kids up for life. Look at guys like Lundqvist or Avery even who run successful business in the city that have nothing to do with hockey at all. this kid is no fool.he is coming out with a harvard degree making connections in new york with the people who run the planet earth. it was probably the best business decision he could ever make. thats what he is thinking. lol you can compare that to buffalo

The rent would be what he'd be dealing with, anyway. Not taxes. Taxes won't be anything much compared to elsewhere. It's the rent and general cost of food and such that would be high in Manhattan. But combine that with a lack of car (if he doesn't want one) and the savings is there.

Or he can just live outside the City itself in NJ or the NY burbs.

Glad this saga is over. The Rangers are the team that meet the criteria the least of all the teams on his list. Buffalo or Toronto seems to have been the best fit to grow with a young up and coming lineup. The Rangers are in no man's land, they're not a contender and it don't look promising that they will be anytime soon. I guess he got blinded by the lights of the Big Apple.

I'd take an average NHLer for free any day of the week.

Exactly.

Even if he tops out as a solid 3rd liner, that's still a young, completely free asset.

FWIW, sources were reporting that seeing the treatment of Jimmy Hayes in Boston really turned him off to signing there. It's hard being a hometown player anywhere, let alone Boston.

NYR was the closest team to home that could afford to pay him a max rookie deal now, and still have space for him on his 2nd contract. They also have a great core of NCAA guys, and they treat their players very well. The organization also has deep Boston roots from Jeff Gorton to Steve Greeley, to Gordie Clark. I really don't think it's any more complicated than that.

no point posting it anymore. its quite obvious that there is a crap load of jealousy in this thread now. IMO(as a non NYR fan) the future of NYR looks unbelievable and its quite obvious it is extremely talented and impressive. People that think otherwise is jealous or has zero knowledge. In a few years, this team will be a very good team

You also forgot to mention Lindberg in there

I think you're slightly overstating the future of the Rangers.

From that list there isn't a single player that projects as a truly elite player in the league. Sure, maybe Buchnevich or someone can far exceed expectations, but banking on it to happen doesn't seem realistic. Teams don't win cups without an elite C or a dominant D core. They don't have a dominant D-core. They might, again, if Skjei and Mcillrath exceed expectations.

Their best prospect outside Buch and Skjei is. . . Adam Tambellini?

People declaring an imminent decline are overstating it partially due to sour grapes. They'll be a playoff team for at least a few more years, who knows after that, but I don't see a single thing in their future that screams "unbelievable".

They could be elite in 5 years, they could be in the bottom 10 in 5 years.

Of all teams he could choose, I thought the Rangers were so far down the line. I thought it was either Chicago for the recent history or Boston because it's his home or maybe the Islanders because they're trending nicely. So weird.

I know it's August and there isn't much NHL-related stuff to talk about, but I've kind of been turned off by the hoopla around this whole thing, e.g. people referring to 'sweepstakes', etc.

Hope the kid does well though.

As a flyers fan, I hope for the following 3 things to happen

- preds win a cup in the next 5 years
- vesey is a bust
- preds draft a hidden gem superstar with buffalos 3rd rounder

Even though NYR are rivals, it has nothing to do with them. I just feel like small market teams like Nashville already have enough of a difficult time attracting free agents. I wish they would close that college loophole

In b4, yes I'm well aware that it's in the CBA and this is well within Veseys rights, that doesn't mean I have to like it. Just felt like he misled Nashville for 4 years

As a Rangers fan I agree with everything except vesey is a bust!

Congrads to Vesey on his new journey to NY.

Well the Rangers just got a player that could probably play in the nhl this upcoming season for the price of some cash. Good for them but this must suck for the Sabers not having it work out. The Sabres at least had a good chance to sign Vesey and odds are the pick they gave up doesn't have a great chance of being an nhl player (too soon to say for certain of course).

A bit off topic but... why does everyone bring up endorsement deals when talking about the Rangers as a FA destonation? Cause as someone who lives in the area I barely see any other then the watch one for Lundqvist

One of the youngest forward cores in the league, all very good players. We declining! :)

No one is saying the Rangers are on the decline due to their forward group. The reason people say this is because of their blueline (specifically Girardi and Staal, and more specifically how much they earn in contribution to what they do on the ice) and Lundqvist's age. Yes Lundqvist is still a top 5 goalie, but at 34, won't be for long. The question is whether NYR can sort out the blueline before Lundqvist really takes a step back.

Not sure.

I know McDonagh has one. Either for an energy drink or some other drink.

Other than that, I don't know what other endorsements are out there for the Rangers.

It is an odd argument to bring up, I'll agree.
