Rangers was the wrong choice for him he could have played with a real #1 Center in Eichel. Rangers will be in a rebuild in 3 years when the Sabres will be contending for a cup!

Okay, enjoy waiting your 3 years!

And the Penguins got handled by us in 2015, with no hope on the horizon. Suddenly a bunch of their young guys turned the page, opened eyes, and they added Kessel and Hagelin. Team was like brand new. Then faced the Sharks in the Cup finals, a team who absolutely no one thought was on the rise when last season began.

It's the NHL, storylines change overnight. Rangers have a lot of young players who have more to give, plus the potential to improve on D by trading a forward (Nash?). I'm not thinking about the Penguins, I'm just looking at NYR roster right now and liking it much better than what we started with in 2015, both from a talent perspective and a youth/cap hit perspective. As far as who is primed to contend, nobody really knows with any certainty. Hawks, Kings, and Rangers all went out in Rd 1, and those are the teams with the most playoff wins the past 5 years. Nobody was picking Pens or Sharks to make it that far. Two or three guys playing at or above expectations sometimes makes all the difference in the world and the Rangers suffered from injuries/underperformances last year. That can easily flip.

Good post

For a Harvard guy, I don't know if moving to New York is a smart move. Plenty of distractions but good luck to him. Time will tell if it was the right decision. Congratulations to Rangers fans, glad it's over, at least.

Wait. What?

I have no idea what this is even supposed to mean. There are thousands of Harvard grads in Manhattan. I don't see why going to Harvard would make it hard for him to deal with Manhattan. That's one of the strangest things I've ever read on this board.

Unfortunately the Stanley Cup winners of the last decade have all followed a blueprint that the Rangers can't match with their quality of centers. You can talk about youth all you like but none of it has the elite potential you need to win the cup in today's league.

What's that blueprint? Sucking your way to generational talents?

Rangers have been a playoff team all but one year since the lockout so this is how we have to do our business.

Of course the never-ending HF narrative that the team is over the hill and on the decline without actually knowing anything about the roster!

Whatever you think about the Rangers, today is a great day for the organization - a free prospect with upside. Welcome to the team Jimmy!

The Penguins had an awful team 2 years ago and got hot last year and won a cup. Give me a ****ing break.

Do you really not see the difference between Pittsburgh and New York? How about the fact that Pittsburgh's players with the biggest cap hits all actually perform up to that level. MAF is questionable come playoff time, but he's always been good enough to get us there.

People just hate the Rangers on this site. So much hypocrisy. For example everyone always says oh we got blown out of the building by the Kings in the SCF, despite losing 3 games in OT.

Then the next season when we beat the Penguins in 5 games, but 2 went to OT and they were all one goal games, the narrative was we barely skated by Pittsburgh.

lol. I don't hate the Rangers. In fact other than WSH, VAN and MTL I don't hate any teams. I wouldn't cheer for the Rags, but I don't hate them. But that's not going to stop me from dissecting their team and how it's built.

Anyone who said that was lying out their ass. PIT was missing 3 of their top 4D and had a bunch of other injuries. No one (rightfully) gave them a chance, and anyone who did didn't have a clue what they're talking about. PIT had a chance that series, just like NYR had a chance this time around.

I guess people in this thread aren't as informed about the Rangers as they should be before making comments on stuff like the future and whatnot.

All the people talking about the rangers being on the decline - yeah obviously they are, but that was probably part of the appeal.

- close to home
- friends on team
- team in decline so while he doesnt have a shot at winning cups at all, his own roster spot is relatively secure

The party that was going on here in during Game 5 was something to behold.

We had two bad games.

Game 1 Lundqvist only played 19 minutes so that doesn't count towards anything judge worthy.

We won Game 2, lost Game 3 by one goal excluding the ENG but got rocked in 4 and 5.

So two bad games determines the entire course of a franchise. Good to know.

Two bad games where you get blown out out of a total of five games is not really screaming contender

To NYR fans I don't want to sound like a hater. I don't hate any team in the league except Detroit and its simply just my opinion on the hockey I have watched and what I know about the roster.

Amazing how bitter some fans of other "finalists" for Vesey are. No one is saying this kid is a surefire first liner. I think most Rangers fans will be thrilled if he's a 20-25 goal scorer in his prime. Nothing wrong with signing a free asset. No risk move.

Not to take away from the narrative here, but there was the small matter of Letang, Maatta, Ehrhoff, and Pouliot all being injured.

Had we been missing Letang, Maatta, and two more depth defensemen these playoffs, you may well have eliminated us this year too.

Washington got the benefit of the doubt when they lost to Pittsburgh. They won one more game than us and it was on some stupid fluke goal that probably wasn't even a goal.

Young + money + NYC.

He'll get Top 6 minutes I assume, which is another good thing. Only downfall is playing for AV who's dumb as rocks and could ruin him.

Zucc, Nash, are locks for the top 6. Kreider and Miller are pretty close to locks. Much more likely for Vesey to play on the 3rd line than top 6 unless Vesey plays great. NYR`s top 6/forward group is pretty solid. Problem is Girardi and Staal. The rest of the team are actually good. Only thing missing is the real superstar forward which Nash is when he has a good season.
