We needed a goalie and needed to move on from Veleno. It's very simple. Not sure why the other wings fans are so upset.

We actually didn't need a goalie. Husso was part of a goalie log jam. Moving on from Veleno is fine... but we needed to move a goalie last week and dumped Husso. Now we replaced Finnish Husso with Czech Husso.

I don't mind losing Veleno so I can see trying to shore up goaltending and short term center depth. Except that seems expensive for Mrazek and is Craig Smith really going to be any better than Veleno?

Was it just to get out of another year of Veleno?

So Steve drafted literally 2 or 3 decent (non superstar) players and he made one good deal for Debcrincat only because HE WAS HANDED THAT DEAL. Everything else has been mediocre at best or flat out bad.

He's been absolute disaster of a GM.

I was talking more about saying "might as well have kept Holland."

With Holland we'd have idiotic moves AND terrible drafting.

Also c'mon, calling Mo and Raymond "decent" is a bit of an understatement.

We needed one next season to replace Lyon. We now have that guy and don't have to give him term. So our goaltending tandem will be open at the end of 2026 and Cossa will be ready by then.

Moving Husso has little to do with getting Mrazek.

Hell yeah more goalies and I already know how to spell Mrazek.

If it were literally any other goalie I'd be there with you. Mrazek rubbed me the wrong way when he was actually playing good hockey. Now that he's mediocre to bad... I have no use for him. When I, as an outside observer, can watch games and be like "You're taking too aggressive of angles... it's bad.

He'd shut down guys like Ovechkin in his masterpiece 15 shot game because Ovi isn't going to pass when he's in his wheelhouse. But against normal players who aren't so good they feel they can still score on someone cheating... he gets lit up like a Christmas tree.

Craig Smith isn't really going to improve much on Veleno, but I highly suspect that the writing has been on the wall for awhile for Veleno.

I know they're not related... but it ends up working out to be the same money. And I'd rather sign... not taking the time to look... Anthony Stolarz or David Rittich or a goalie like that in the offseason if we need that and not pay Mrazek 4M to be bad in net. At least Talbot was only making 2.5M

I think that this is more of a locker room thing.

Craig Smith should bring some guidance to the younger players and I bet is much better for that role that Joe Veleno.

I think we took Mrazek because he wanted to be traded and Stevie likes to have 3 NHL goaltenders. He has said as much on several occasions. As much as we all hope Jack Campbell can get mentally healthy, his carer in the NHL seems to be over, so we needed a goalie if we could pick one up for nothing.

Sad thing is this means red wings net trio next year is a nightmare unless Cossa becomes a legit NHL goalie quickly.

‘Shore up crease for next year’.

My brother in Christ we traded an expiring Husso and then turned around to trade for someone as bad as Husso with an extra year, and a 4th line center.

Mrazek hasn’t had a good year since 2021. And where was he? Carolina.

My brother in Christ, Husso is worse than marzek and this move cost us essentially nothing.
