Didn't they fire him? So he didnt quit? He's under contract with Vegas for another season. They don't have to let him go. He's not allowed to "quit" and just sign with another team, either.

He wasn’t fired nor did he quitDidn't they fire him? So he didnt quit?
I do. It wasn't to be taken literal.I feel like you don't know what beibg held hostage is
Not to mention when he is a free agent amd there isnt a coaching vacancy open for another year or so?It's morally and ethically f***ed up.
One thing all the people saying "I'd gladly sit at home for 4.5 million" and "He's still under contract with Vegas" aren't taking into account is that this hurts Bruce Cassidy professionally and could actually cost him money in the right situation. Imagine if there's a bidding war for his services but he's not able to sign the best contract for himself and his family because VGK is blocking potential employers from signing him.
The only variation is if the new contract pays less, then Vegas pays the difference; if it pays equal or more, then Vegas' payout obligation drops to zero.
Now where have I heard that before? Pithy way of saying the same thing.“It’s easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven”
I was agreeing with you brodieNow where have I heard that before? Pithy way of saying the same thing.
I know. I was just commenting that your quote was a fancy and iconic way of making the same point I was making. Sometimes the tone of a post dorms make it with flat text. I was smiling .I was agreeing with you brodie
Words mean something. It really amazing this far into the Cassidy saga that there is still confusion/lack of understanding of the difference between 'fired' and 'relieved of duties' . It may be (and pretty much is) a scummy move for Vegas to pull these shenanigans, but they're well within their legal rights to do what they are doing. Cassidy is under contract for another year and will be paid his salary even if doing nothing.
Being reported that Toronto was the only team who was given permission to speak to Cassidy, but we chose Hiller anyways.leaf should have tried
AK Bars KazanI wonder which team they gave permission to. Toronto just announced their new coach, L.A. got theirs, Vegas even has next year's announced so no forcing him to coach there. Edmonton is a possibility but I could see Vegas denying permission just to maybe get Babcock there within the division and all the chaos that will ensue.
He could, but he would be out 4.5 million and still unable to coach a team for another year.Couldn't Cassidy just terminate the contract since he's not longer occupying an active position if he believes a year off for 4.5mil is of no benefit to him?
Being a fired NHL coach is actually my dream job.Is there any kind of precedent for this whatsoever? How can you fire someone and then prevent them from finding another job?

Exactly.. he’s enjoying the insane amount of money that shows up in his bank account every 2 weeks. Always easy for random people to suggest otherwiseEven if this were a possibility do you know many people that would just say "thanks but no thanks" to 4.5 million to do nothing?
I understand that, i was just wondering why people think it's unfair for him in here lolEven if this were a possibility do you know many people that would just say "thanks but no thanks" to 4.5 million to do nothing?
