Ummmm... the 3rd goal? And the 1st goal? Not only did he have one of the ugliest sv%s we have ever seen in the playoffs, several of the goals were weak besides that. Hebwas clearly rattled or tired and Campbell looked sharp every time in relief. Can't believe they kept throwing the shaken rookie out there.

Yep, they should have given Campbell a start at some point. Not sure why they kept going back to Skinner when he wasn't that impressive.

The whole supporting cast sucked for the Oilers. Kane, RNH, and Hyman looked like they spent it all in the regular season

RNH might be the most underwhelming 100 points player in history. Skinner was shaky, no doubt, but for my money it was comical defending like on the first and second Marchessault goal that really lost the series for the Oilers. On the game winning goal there are two VGK forwards ready to put in the rebound and no Oiler anywhere near.

Vegas was lucky that Hill played the game of his life and that the refs allowed just about anything in the decisive game but in the end once again it turns out that a rookie goaltender and D-men like Ceci playing against the opposition's best players is not a recipe for success.

Yeah what a loser with 13 goals in 15 games last post season and then gets his wrist slashed; a potentially career ending injury but recovers in record time while you sit at home and call him a loser
He needs to be better in his own zone.

That doesn't surprise us. RNH is soft as butter. He's a 50pt player without McDavid.

And at the moment in time that Campbell was inserted, Vegas was playing its version of four corners, more concerned with proteocting their lead than scoring. Campbell's SV% is absolute fool's gold
Pretty much this, Vegas is a bear to play when they have the lead. They have a very good defensive core.

Watching the intermission and Messier breaking down 2 blown coverages by Drai that led to 2 goals was painful. Its great to score a ton of points but Superstars messing up that bad twice in an elimination game isn't a good luck.

Commendable on-ice achievements no doubt.

Now reflect on his off-ice shenanigans. Tell me how much of a winner he is.

Not starting Campbell was a critical error. Woodcroft is a smart hockey guy, but that told me he doesn't have a good feel for the game.

Anyone else skip the game as a protest for the ridiculous 10pt est start time? Had all day to put that game on and they throw it on when 85% of North America is getting ready to go to bed.
I'm an Oiler fan and I had to miss the third period. I had to get up early for work. Walking around in a sleepy haze wasn't an option on this particular day. It was an absolute fail from the league to put this game so late to appease some ESPN conflict.

At any rate, the Knights deserved the win. The Oilers have a lot of great things to be excited about for next year but they need some work

Just because they drafted busts with their 1st overall picks it doesn't mean they didn't happen.

Not saying they didn't happen, just figured I'd interject and remind the Leafs fan that his boys had a couple "can't miss" top picks on their defeated squad as well......and hey, at least the Oilers can say their top guys made it onto the scoresheet during the series.

Matthews and Tavares combined for 0 goals over 5 games against Florida. Not gonna go far when your "best" players are laying eggs like that.

The Oilers I thought had a great trade deadline..but Holland couldn't cover his most glaring issue which was goaltending.

Even though on paper their depth looks great, their secondary scoring essentially disappeared.

I agree with that but I don't think it would have changed much. The Knights skaters were better

The NHL tried to move the game in many ways, ESPN basically told them to **** off.

I’m sure Draisatl was tired from carrying the team by the end of the series so while he performance towards the end tailed off in a bad way…you have to look at the circumstances.

He does need to put in more effort in his own zone but when you’re tasked with carrying the load offensively that he and McDavid are - at some point your 25 minutes of ice time is going to need to take on some load/effort management.

It’s really a team-wide issue though - the lack of effort and attention to detail defensively. I’m sure most Oilers fans would be perfectly happy at this point with Drai scoring less but taking a turn into more of a Kopitar-esque role. The problem is we still see how starkly reliant the Oilers still are in the big two especially in crunch time and at even strength. The depth being better this year up front appeared to be a mirage of sorts - either that or it’s poor coaching and tactics. This isn’t the high scoring “team” it appears - it’s two generational producers and a big time PP.

I have to wonder if there has ever been a team with worse PK percentage making the Conference final. I mean, EDM's power play is incredible but Vegas' was pretty bad against the Jets too.

You’re moving the goal posts, since the original post was about the Oil being in the Bedard sweepstakes without McDrai. I showed you two years of the Pens that made the playoffs with similar teams. Trade deadline acquisitions are inconsequential to my point, though, one wonders why the Oil couldn’t do the same given their best players…
Look at the team Crosby and Malkin won with in 2009. Look at the 2006 Canes. 2019 Blues. McDavid and Draisaitl care about points, not having their team ready to win and give their all.

Yea, I am the one moving the goal posts.... This is the post who started the discussion....
