But but but but but I WANT COLUMBUS TO BE SCREWED DAMNIT

EDIT: It's kind of funny how this "literal interpretation of the rules" stuff ONLY ever comes up when it's Clarkson and Columbus. Clowe and the Devils? Nope. Horton and the Leafs? Nope. I suppose one could excuse Franzen and the Wings, since he doesn't have an NMC, or Pronger and the Coyotes since that contract ends after this year...

I don't know about Toronto, however, I believe the Devil do have to protect Clowe.

No. **** no. Zadorov is about as likely to be exposed as Rantanen (considering Rantanen is exempt...there you go).

Of course.
However, I really doubt Las Vegas shares their strategy with everyone and anyone though. Pretty good chance they'll keep their strategies to themselves, don't you think?

Except we have all the salary information and all the contract length information and all the pro season information as well as the rules. There will be lots of obvious choices, Eakin from Dallas is a good bet and whichever defenseman Minnesota doesn't protect is another, but Vegas has the same information that you or I do. Every team loses a player, there is no secret to any of this.

Yes I realize that, but that's not what i'm talking about.

Nothing you have said makes any sense. Since there won't be a list of exposed players until right before the draft, we can only speculate now which is exactly as much as Vegas can do. There is no secret to keep, all the information is public.

Obviously we aren't getting any closer to being on the same page, or even the same book.
Have a good night.

HFboards... You clearly don't care about your reputation or credibility allowing these people to be 'partners'. Zero research, and zero actual knowledge, another dumpster fire article.

I laughed and stopped reading when I saw that Zadorov would be left unprotected.

Vegas isn't getting Matt Murray, to even throw it out there as a possible scenario is comical. I also don't see any way that Colorado doesn't protect Zadorov and the Wild don't trade Brodin before losing him.

Players can waive their ntc/nmc. Teams can also trade assets for LV to not take an unprotected player.

I bet we'll see a number of deals, where LV picks up a pick.

Agree with the above. I'd guess the teams involved will find ways of retaining players like Orlov, Brodin & Calvin de Haan.

Las Vegas will be a garbage team.

The league gave the 30 teams too much time to plan a strategy.

Uh, was the league just supposed to surprise them? "SURPRISE! We're going to let Vegas take a great asset from you without giving you time to get anything for it!"

I'm all for giving an expansion team a good start, but NHL teams shouldn't be punished for having good assets.

It's going to be worse once teams are punished a second time when the next expansion draft happens. Won't be for a few years, but you gotta figure the league won't run with 31 teams and unbalanced conferences forever.

I think it should've been only one option of protecting 10 players total, but all RFA players were exempt. To counteract the dearth of good players this structure would have exposed, I also think the league should've required Vegas to set up a farm system this past year and had them included in this past entry draft so they could start building their organizational depth beforehand. We could very well see Vegas drafting a bunch of players with 1-2 years left on their contracts, who are essentially just stop-gaps until they can start building from within. Maybe it was an impractical option but I think in the long term they would've been better served with a couple entry drafts worth of players already in the pipeline prior to their first season starting, as well as an AHL team already in place.

I read the article and it seems pretty far fetched, but sometimes reality is stranger than fiction. Some of the actual signing trades and waiver pickups that have happened in the past would bet laughed at and called a troll if they were posted here before they happened.
