Vegas about to circumvent cap again? UPD: Mark Stone back practicing.

I see mark stone has made it of Robidas Island in time for game one of playoffs. He must of been in good shape to swim all the way to Vegas. LOL

No they are outright declaring they are, some question, the majority have declared them cheaters.

So if they are declaring either they operating on different CBA than the NHL and PA have, or the have some proof, if so I want the damn proof, not just speculation and conjecture.

As a mod who has undoubtedly seen some stuff on HF, do you not see the goalpost shifting that you're currently doing?

I originally quoted you because you were claiming it's a "feature" of the CBA. That's pure bogus and since being called out you've squirmed and are now focusing on how people can't prove it's against the rules. Different thing altogether - and one that I acknowledged from the outset.

It is, of course. The point is, many things are in that category and yet the league does nothing. All those injured players traded to ARI and never playing a game for them ring a bell? Robidas island? Blatant LTIR shenanigans happen all the time.
difference is ARI isnt getting a huge advantage heading in to the playoffs every year. Taking on big contracts while receiving "late draft picks" isnt the same at all. Theyre basically prolonging a rebuild. Thats their problem.

Pretending a player is out longer than they really are so they can add a player like Hertl is flat out lying and cheating. Spin it any way you like.

This is such a bad look for the league they need to fix this.

Assuming everything is above board regarding Stones injury its an optic issue. Teams shouldn't get such a large advantage in the playoffs because they happened to have a player injured at exactly the right time. It's just silly.

Why announce the is cleared to practice? Other than wanting to troll the rest of the NHL.
To make it appear that he is barely healthy enough to practice but is preparing a return that coincidentally lines up with when the playoffs start. I hope these guys get absolutely pummeled in the first round. Nobody likes a cheater, it's pathetic what this organization is doing.

I am going to go out on a limb and say while he can't medically get clearance to play now, magically he will be medically cleared to play come game #1 of the post-season.
Absolutely, docs will rule him far too injured and risky to play in game 82 but perfectly healthy with no risk to play in the most physical part of the season 2 days later.

As I said, even if you believe it is fair and that all injuries are legit, it is still a very bad optic for the league if contending team and eventual stanley cup winners all used the LTIR cap saving trick in the past.

It's correctable and fixable but if the NHL don't do anything about it and it keep happening you will start seeing some cynical comment about the league and quite possibly loss of interest in their product.

Excellent. Stone is unquestionably the Golden Knights MVP in every way. They're a completely different team with him in the lineup. Hope he's good to go for round one.

Also, most of the whining about Vegas utilizing the CBA to their benefit seems to be just sour grapes; that the owner or owners of the team they're a fan of isn't as aggressive in trying to win. But so it goes
kind of hope for an injury in the playoffs. This is a joke. This loophole needs to close. If you don't come off LTIR and play before the last game of the regular season, you are ineligible for the playoffs.

Not a loophole and there's literally nothing the league can or will do about it.

That quote unquote solution is horribly myopic and would never ever pass muster. Because here's the thing, injuries happen to every single team, and there's not a single GM out there who would be okay with having their players forced to sit out because of injuries.

Well, it got them a cup so....

Also the injuries are real. The fact is that players have the ability to play through an injury if they want to. Also even if an injury is playable doesn't mean a player has to play through it.

But imo Stone's timing shows that he understands the GM side of the business and wants to play ball with boosting his team's cap space.

I bet there will eventually be some mechanism to limit this advantage. It's a pattern at this point. It's too big an advantage

Honestly I feel like the only workable solution towards the LTIR "loophole" (which isn't a loophole, it's working as intended) is limiting the amount of cap relief you get from putting players on LTIR. The problem here is that teams are getting full cap relief for players by putting them on LTIR, meaning they can just go get a new $9 million player to replace Stone if Stone is hurt. If you limit that cap relief to maybe only a league minimum salary, that prevents teams from being able to do this.

Sucks as a Dallas fan we will probably finish 1st in the West with our strongest team in forever and our reward is playing the actual strongest team in the West (when fully healthy) and the team we match up the worst against.

Oh well I guess, all paths will lead through Vegas anyways if you wanna win the Cup.
You must be young, Dallas teams in the late 90s were absolutely stacked

Trust Me as an oilers fan saying this lolol

Actually the solution is quite elegant.
Players need to be activated off LTIR and spend 1 day on the roster and it be cap compliant before they can play in the PO.
They don't have to miss games, make the last day of the season an off day for everyone so all injured players can be activated, and nobody has to play short players. If it's not cap compliant, then you follow the existing CBA guidelines for those situations.
