I love when fans of teams complain about other teams doing things that every team in the league can also do....

Who f***ing cares? I want to see the most talented teams in the league in the playoffs, and if that means a team can add before the playoffs start because a guy is legitimately injured, who gives a f***? All teams can do the same damn thing.
Is there a dislike button?

I'm not sure what part of my post you're arguing against. I never said Stone was faking an injury. If my team were in a position to do what Vegas is doing, you're damn right I'd want them to do so.
It was the "agreed to basically sit out" part which does sound like he basically could be faking it but if that wasn't your intention then my bad.

Honestly can’t get.

ove said it before but the easiest fix IMO is just make it so the roster you Ice each game in the post season is cap compliant
Funny thing is Vegas last POs would have been cap compliant every game, but that suggestion would hurt teams who accrue cap to spend at the TDL to top off their roster for the POs.

I don't think it'd cheating but there were also people lamenting the targeting of these injured players last year. Can't have it both ways. If you want to use injured players that way, I'm not really sure you can also moan about opponents taking runs at these 'injured but supposedly healthy enough to play' guys. Both sides are going to do what they have to do to win, if a guy comes back too early and someone takes advantage of that, that's the nature of the game.

I think there is a difference between faking an injury and making sure the timeline for return comes at a convenient time. Do you really think his injury timelines just happen to end at exactly the time playoffs start? Or do you think he’s saying, well I’m injured and I could come back a week before playoffs start. Or I could give myself an extra week or two to recover and allow my team to add another star player at the deadline.

Of course we will have to see what happens this year in terms of whether he returns right away for playoffs.

Nah but what I do think is that Vegas likes to delay a little for when they let players get surgeries/proper rehab if they don't need them asap.

I think it's difficult to quantify and the only people who would truly know are the players them selves. The implication seems to players are taking the extra time to come back from injury to keep the team cap compliant... or it could be players are more inclined to comeback while still recovering when the game are that much more important.

M. Tkachuk doesn't try an play game 4 if it's a regular season game, but because the game was so important even if he had to helped into his gear we was there to play.

I tend to think it more likely players are coming back early. than dragging out their recovery.

They should just limit the amount of cap relief you get from LTIR, say $5 million so even if you have a $10 million player on LTIR, you only get $5 million to replace him.

Well I think the thing that gives Vegas the ability to do this two years in a row is that one of their highest paid players has agreed to basically sit out 20 games leading up to playoffs. And they’ve been comfortable enough in the standings that sitting him isn’t too dangerous.

It takes a specific set of circumstances to be able to take advantage of the situation like Vegas has.

In any case, I think more people have an issue with the NHL allowing this loophole to exist than with Vegas (or Tampa) for taking advantage of it.
Totally disagree. Use the search function. There are some real nasty comments about the Lightning. Curious if some of those comments would be allowed today.

Here are my solutions

1) To be in the playoffs a player must play in either the last game of the NHL season or Last game of the AHL season(extra bodies in the playoffs
2) The starting lines up in the playoffs can not exceed the cap.

Vegas is not done. I believe Guentzel ends up with vegas as well,

It is funny to me too that it is mainly Oilers fans being so upset with this.

When their team won the draft lottery 4 times in 10 years. And they lucked into a generational player.

Sorry, sometimes luck plays a part in this injury wise. It isn't some mass conspiracy.
The NHL changed the draft lottery rules to try to stop the Oilers from getting another high pick, and that is the only reason they have McDavid.

You can bet as soon as a Canadian team tries to utilize this injury loophole it will be slammed shut immediately.

So many babies in here , love to read the misery about a team following the rules in place and using them to their advantage.
flag on the play

Problem with Vegas is that they keep players on the LTIR when they are good to come back, That is not playing by the rules. IF Stone does not play in the 1st or 2nd game of the playoffs, I will take it back. Last year we all guessed it. The plan went side ways 2 season ago and they missed the playoffs for it. This is now the 3rd season in a row we have had this discussion about Vegas and the cap in the playoffs. Personally I am happy Ottawa screwed Vegas 2 years ago and Vegas missed the playoffs because of it. If Vegas had been playing better 2 years ago, they would have had to fess up to not bringing back players when healthy. They will make the playoffs this year. I do not see the Blues and Kraken catching the Knights this year. So Vegas can keep their players on the LTIR this year with out worry

Yeah but as the rules are now they aren't cheating , Stone can just say his back hurts and its a wrap :laugh: I get what you are saying though , we aren't in the room with the NHL and independent doctors checking these guys out

Yup , If my team ever contends I want them to do the exact same thing , all fans should.
Exactly.
If anything they are clever and do what they have to do to win.
Of course that does not feel good for the fans of the opposition, but they would think the same if their team was in the same position. Like you said, i would also hope that my team would do that if it means that the team can stay competitive for longer or win the cup.

Does that mean that i like them doing it? No. But i don't spend my time thinking about it and using up precious time, energy and nerves to be angry about it. I mean why get so angry at this? I can't change it. Its better to discuss something else.

They use the rules to their advantage.
To me that is not cheating. If it were there would already be a rule change. But there isn't.
And other teams could also do it that way.
In the end its not great, but legal.
you like many of their defenders are ignoring the opening statement of those of us who have problems with what they are doing.

"THEY ARE KEEPING PLAYERS ON THE LTIR LONGER THAN THEY NEED TO BE TO EARN MORE CAP SPACE"

IN capitals just to get the point across. The year they missed the playoffs it burned them.
