Vancouver led the league in points at Christmas, Can they continue this run into the New Year?

Let me go edit my post

"Canucks are impeccable at protecting the slot and not allowing much more high danger chances. Please disregard the actual stats from nhl.com"
Just edit it to say ‘I’m still stinging from getting curb stomped 18-6 in 3 losing games and therefore I’m obsessed with trying to prove the top team in the league isn’t as good as my team which is sixth in the West’.
Why not just get a hobby instead of obsessing so much?

People should check out the NHL Edge website. These are for Nuck fans. I have no comment on them as I have not looked at any other teams on it, but it is a neat website with some cool stats

I did not post them, but Demko is obviously playing really well. His high danger save % is great. He is at 0.858. Canucks have allowed about 75-100 more inner slot shots compared to the top teams that protect the slot better.

So im looking at they are 2 shots per game below average, they work the puck to the crease a lot with success and they are on the right side of zone %s

How they play the second half traditionally determines the results in the playoffs.
When the league had 21 teams and 16 made the playoffs, continuing to push in the standings could burn the team out. This is why the president trophy winner is known to choke.
But coasting to the playoffs is unsustainable now. There's too much parity and a team could easily lose their spot.
Factor in a losing record in previous seasons and inexperience, a team not used to winning is going to want to keep pushing in the regular season.

The other factor of the regular season vs the playoffs is scouting. Teams will study games and adjust over 7 games. A newly winning team won't be experienced to know how to adjust.

Depth also plays a role, especially when the officials put their whistles away.

This doesn't hold up.

The President's Trophy was introduced in 1986; the league had 21 teams until 1991-92 when the Sharks joined. That's 6 seasons:

1986 - Oilers do choke, lose to the Flames based on Steve Smith's own goal
1987 - Oilers win the Cup
1988 - Flames lose to the Oilers in the division final
1989 - Flames win the Cup
1990 - Bruins lose in the Final
1991 - Blackhawks lose in the first round

So there was 6 years with the trophy in the 21 team NHL, and the winner won the Cup twice, and lost in one final. That's not a bad percentage, and certainly not "choke" worthy.

Also, of the 37 President's Trophy winners, 8 of them have won the cup, I haven't looked it up, but I imagine that is just as common of a winner, if not more, than any other league standing position like 2nd, 3rd, or 4th overall individually.

for what it’s worth, most fans know that the Canucks will regress and won’t finish 1st in the league. Fans have had a rough couple of years, so just let them enjoy this small victory
Uhhh

I don’t know man

I’ll say it again.

Been consistently good from g1 is more impressive than being on a 2 months heater

10-1-2 in January with even better underlying numbers than they had before.

Congrats to all the armchair analysts that have been vehemently predicting their demise since week two of the season.
I think, but am not sure, the mantra has moved from “unsustainable“ to an inexperienced playoff team that cannot win when it matters and something about Demko struggling……the straws being grasped at are many with these ones….

It’s definitely the most common winner among all standings placements

I‘ve forgot all the statistics and math I learned in college. Is 82 games really a sufficiently large sample size for regression? Are we assuming a normal bell shaped distribution curve?

Harder schedule coming up. To their credit, I think they are like 6-5 against top 10 teams thus far. Winning record. They have had one of the easier schedules thus far and now have a tougher one

There was nothing easy about November. At one point in mid-November they played 7 games in 10 days.

Canucks “inexperience” is overrated. We have individual players who have had a lot of success in the playoffs. Ian Cole and Teddy Blueger have multiple Stanley cups. JT miller has 78 playoff games. Additionally, Our coaching staff has like 8 Stanley cups between them.

He’s just changed from the PDO straw to the strength of schedule straw. Keeps grasping but hasn’t reach yet.

Chalk it up to another salty fan that is seething Vancouver is seeing success without multiple 1st. Team didn’t need a decade of darkness

Especially when Canucks fans have to lie about how many games they’ve played in 10 days.

Canuckheads slapped us around to begin the year. Our bad start was in part, due to this.

Best team I've ever seen in Vancouver, and I think they might have a successful era with some cup runs.

Congrats Van !! but I hope Conner gets this year's cup.
