thehockeywriters.com speculating on what Adams might be holding out for in a deal with the Canucks

The holdup appears to be Adams seeking additional value in return, though nothing as significant as J.T. Miller. Instead, Buffalo is reportedly interested in acquiring a player who can contribute immediately, with defenseman Vincent Desharnais being a potential target. The challenge is that Vancouver views Byram as a key addition to its blue line and would prefer not to part with a defenseman in the trade themselves.
Desharnias blows and every Vancouver fan wants him gone. This makes zero sense

I really hope Buffalo isn't trading for Miller and I would be surprised if Miller waives for Buffalo. He is 32 in March and how long before his play starts declining? 2 years? Trading someone like Byram is not worth it even if he waives.

Or did you mean to write Pettersson? Or probably I am getting confused by the writing of it.

No, I read it as adding some minor piece like Desharnais to EP40, not something as significant as Miller, which doesn't make sense anyway.

If that's the only thing holding up the deal, then Adams is an idiot and Desharnais is no better than Clifton. Just get EP40, if you need to sweeten the deal, do it, if you need to overpay a little, do it.

though "nothing" as significant as J.T. Miller
The writer speculates that they are NOT trying to hold out for Miller.

Dejonaisse is f***ing terrible. If that's the holdup... :biglaugh:

That would be the most Sabre holdup ever - making a deal contingent on someone who is just a terrible, terrible hockey player.
Or Adams just keeps asking for more adds until Vancouver says no.

My money is on Adams as Terry putting together a plan to make an offer for EP that is decent value but they are certain Vancouver won't except. Only Allvin did accept, and now Terry is yelling at Adams to keep asking for more until Vancouver declines and thereby, saving Terry's money :sarcasm:

This is why you never click on a hockeywriters.com article.

Columbus is reported to be negotiating a deal for EP. Negotiating, not imminent.
Makes sense, they need center, Monahan who was playing C1 is hurt now. They have 2 1st this year (which the Sabres do not), and many prospects/futures. I have to think Rutherford/Allvin are lookin for more immediate impact to help make the playoffs now ? So perhaps thats the advantage the Sabres have with players like Byrum, Power, Cozens, Greenway, etc.

The Athletic and and Hockey News are speculating that Sadd will have no shortage of interest from contending teams such as Colorado, Boston, Tampa Bay, Edmonton, Toronto, Vegas, Washington, and Dallas could come calling.

The other way it makes sense is that Columbus is still working below the cap floor due to the Gaudreau tragedy.

They are one team that could take EP40 on and not need to move significant cap back to the Canucks. That could be very attractive when the other option is Buffalo offering up Cozens who is locked up to a decently large number and Byram who will want a big number this summer.

Hockey Writers is absolute garbage click bait. Don't be so sensitive about someone pointing it out.

Maybe a shiny Kulich will appeal to them? Instead of Cozens.

I would not be surprised if they had more interest in Kulich than Cozens.

I also would not be surprised if Adams feels that Kulich is still untouchable. Adams has proven that he is more patient than the fans and media are. And he passed on trading for Chychrun when he moved out of Arizona because Adams wouldn't put Kulich in the deal.

Yes, EP40 is on a completely different level from Chychrun. But, past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.

Columbus has one of the biggest surprises this season and TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports the team has held initial talks with the Canucks on Pettersson.

"A team to talk about is the Columbus Blue Jackets and it’s not surprising because they have massive salary cap space," LeBrun explained on Insider Trading. "So as the Canucks make their rounds talking to teams on both J.T. Miller, and Pettersson, the conversation with the Blue Jackets is on Pettersson.

"We’ll see if preliminary discussions, which have begun very recently, can go to the next level. But I think Columbus has the same questions every other team is asking about Pettersson, including a team like the Buffalo Sabres.

"Who is Elias Pettersson right now? Is he the Pettersson of old who warranted that massive extension last season or the one that we’ve seen this past year? It has a lot of teams wondering how much they want to give up.

"What I’m sensing around the market, whether it’s Miller or Pettersson, is that teams are willing to see if the Canucks are willing to bring their asking price down on either player before they engage more fully."

The Blue Jackets enter play Friday sitting in the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference and could snap a five-year playoff drought this season.

The surging Blue Jackets, who are 7-2-1 in their past 10 games, have $18.7 million in cap space, per PuckPedia.
